Book Air Pollution XXII

Download or read book Air Pollution XXII written by J.W.S. Longhurst and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2014-07-07 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Modelling, Monitoring and Management of Air Pollution, builds upon the prestigious outcomes of the 21 preceding meetings beginning in 1993. Air pollution is one of the most challenging problems facing the international community; it is widespread and growing in importance, and has clear and known impacts on health and the environment. The human need for transport, manufactured goods and services results in impacts on the atmospheric environment from a local to global scale. The rate of development of the global economy brings new pressures and the willingness of governments to regulate air pollution is often balanced by concerns over the economic impact of such regulation. Science is the key to identifying the nature and scale of air pollution impacts and is essential in the formulation of policies for regulatory decision-making. Continuous improvements to our knowledge of the fundamental science of air pollution and its application are necessary if we are to predict, assess and mitigate the air pollution implications to local, regional, national and international systems. Topics covered include: Air pollution modelling; Air pollution mitigation; Air pollution management; Aerosols and particles; Emission studies; Exposure and health effects; Indoor air pollution; Monitoring and measuring; Case studies; Emerging technologies; Power generation and air pollution; Incineration plant studies; Air pollution chemistry; Global and regional studies; Policy and legislation.

Book Environmental Policy in North America

Download or read book Environmental Policy in North America written by Robert G. Healy and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2014-01-20 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive analysis of key issues in North American environmental policy provides an overview of how the US, Mexico, and Canada differ in their environmental management approaches and capacity levels, and how these differences play into cross-border cooperation on environmental problems. The book offers insights into transboundary cooperation both before and after NAFTA, and presents a framework for making environmental interaction more effective in the future. The book is organized into two parts. The first, more general, section compares the national contexts for environmental management in each country—including economic conditions, sociocultural dynamics, and political decision-making frameworks— and shows how these have led to variations in policy approaches and levels of capacity. The authors argue that effective environmental governance in North America depends on the ability of transboundary institutions to address and mediate these differences. The book's second section illustrates this argument, using four case studies of environmental management in North America: biodiversity and protected areas, air pollution (smog); greenhouse gas reduction, and genetically modified crops.

This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Air Quality

Download or read book Air Quality written by Dragana Popovic and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air pollution has been a major transboundary problem and a matter of global concern for decades. High concentrations of different air pollutants are particularly harmful to large cities residents, where numerous anthropogenic activities strongly influence the quality of air. Although there are many books on the subject, the one in front of you will hopefully fulfill some of the gaps in the area of air quality monitoring and modeling, and be of help to graduate students, professionals and researchers. The book is divided in five sections, dealing with mathematical models and computing techniques used in air pollution monitoring and forecasting; air pollution models and application; measuring methodologies in air pollution monitoring and control; experimental data on urban air pollution in China, Egypt, Northeastern U.S, Brazil and Romania; and finally, the health effects due to exposure to benzene, and on the influence of air pollutants on the acute respiratory diseases in children in Mexico.

Book World Literature Cosmopolitanism Globality

Download or read book World Literature Cosmopolitanism Globality written by Gesine Müller and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From today’s vantage point it can be denied that the confidence in the abilities of globalism, mobility, and cosmopolitanism to illuminate cultural signification processes of our time has been severely shaken. In the face of this crisis, a key concept of this globalizing optimism as World Literature has been for the past twenty years necessarily is in the need of a comprehensive revision. World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality: Beyond, Against, Post, Otherwise offers a wide range of contributions approaching the blind spots of the globally oriented Humanities for phenomena that in one way or another have gone beyond the discourses, aesthetics, and political positions of liberal cosmopolitanism and neoliberal globalization. Departing basically (but not exclusively) from different examples of Latin American literatures and cultures in globalized contexts, this volume provides innovative insights into critical readings of World Literature and its related conceptualizations. A timely book that embraces highly innovative perspectives, it will be a mustread for all scholars involved in the field of the global dimensions of literature.
