Invita además a los maestros, al diseño de contenidos no lineales con los principios de la educación interactiva porque está consciente de que la formación de trabajadores del conocimiento, como se les llama, es una cuestión estratégica de supervivencia para cualquier sociedad y especialmente para las que están en vías de desarrollo y sufren los embates de la globalización financiera sin prevenirse contra ella.

Book excerpt: The book describes the experience of Rafael Calderón-Almendros (the first person with Down syndrome to obtain a professional music degree in Spain) and his family. A confrontation arose with his school at the end of his compulsory secondary education stage. After Rafael had been a student in the centre from the start of his education, the institution lost its vision and denied the student his rights. The school used concealed segregation strategies, legitimized by the institution and its professionals, which were almost insurmountable. However, Rafael’s family embarked on a process of Action Research, began to fight for the recognition of the right for all students to obtain a formal education. This research shows how critical analyses were born from the experiences of a representative of one of the most disadvantaged groups (disabled people), which have been rigorously recorded and evidenced. From an inclusive, engaged and radical perspective, the text presents a solid case of someone outside the able-dominated average completing his education to a high professional standard. His success is endorsed by subsequent events: Rafael passed his compulsory secondary education, the equivalent of the English Baccalaureate and his Elementary and Professional Grades of Music (ten years). He obtained the Gold Medal of Merit in Education of Andalusia and the World Down Syndrome Day Award. He was admitted to the prestigious Academy of Orchestral Studies Barenboim-Said. Rafael has nothing else to prove. Today, his example challenges many of the usual school practices and urges us to rethink the commitment of educators in stimulating the participation of the entire school community, in promoting student autonomy and the recognition of others in their human and social rights. Book excerpt: This book explores, as one of the priorities of the feminist agenda in the 21st century, feminist education and awareness in pre-service and in-service teacher training. Although feminism is constantly present in political discourse and social media, it is not examined sufficiently in the classroom. This situation means that students approach feminism through media culture, lacking the feminist knowledge necessary to teach disciplinary knowledge from the feminist perspective. Feminist theory, as a critical theory, provides teacher training based on the formation of critical-creative thinking and the resolute interpretation of the relevant social issues of the world in which we live. We understand the process of 'Feminist Critical Literacy' outlined here as a plan to find a feminist utopia, specifically, in the training of teachers from all disciplines, although more oriented towards the Social and Human Sciences and Artistic Education through the use of multimodality as a pedagogical approach. If future teachers do not develop feminist cognitive lenses, they will not be prepared to teach women's experiences and gender perspectives to their own students. This would then contribute to the endurance of an androcentric culture where there are no women's models that can serve as a stimulus or be historical references for female students. Our idea of Feminist Critical Literacy stems from feminist literary criticism and critical literacy. Feminist Critical Literacy is defined as the hermeneutical process of suspicion (mainstream culture) and of performative deconstruction of multimodal texts (didactic produsage), the purpose of which is to generate feminist consciousness in teachers from an intersectional perspective; through the acquisition of critical, creative, empathetic, aesthetic, and empowering competencies that contribute to the formation of a fair, equal, and equitable glocal citizenship.

The volume is divided into two parts: PART 1: Governance and the Knowledge Economy, focuses on how the discourses of a Knowledge Economy and Lifelong Learning, and an emerging functional and scalar division of the labour of educational governance became central to the development of a European Education Space. Contributors emphasise the role of the European Commission, and especially the Lisbon agenda, in this process, and considers the role of the Open Method of Coordination and the Bologna Process in the construction of the EES. A key theme linking Europeanisation to globalisation is the prominence of the discourse of competitiveness, and the role allocated to education in enhancing Europe’s ability to compete with the United States and Japan. PART TWO: Citizenship, Identity and Language, looks at the emergence of a new social model for Europe, this time from the point of view of how it relates the development of individual capacities and citizenship, and the role of intellectuals in this process.
