Book Tennis Drugs and Jesus Christ

Download or read book Tennis Drugs and Jesus Christ written by Eric Miller and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-15 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book This book is about a hard-partying Oklahoma, USA tennis family that went from Atheism to Christianity. This book is about how much I love Rock ‘n’ Roll music and comedy. I did my best trying to get all the dates and facts correct, but they’re not perfect. Here is a sociological fact: if one parent is chemically dependent, their children have a fifty percent chance of being chemically dependent. If both parents are chemically dependent, their children have a 75 percent chance of being chemically dependent. The Miller family nailed it. Both parents were chemically dependent. Three out of four of their children were chemically dependent. The Miller family's life is part tragedy and part comedy. Please laugh as hard as you want. Drug abuse is a nightmare. I am not glamorizing drug use in my book. Warning! I have severe ADHD. I've been in special Ed classes my whole life. I've never passed an English class in my life. I'm not a writer, I did my best. I hope you enjoy the Miller family true story. About the Author Hello warriors. My name is Eric Miller. I'm a white liberal, tennis loving, recovering drug addict, trying to let God run my life, good dude. I was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1966. I grew up in Norman Oklahoma the land of OU sooner football. I was an average NAIA college tennis player for East Central University in Ada Oklahoma. I taught tennis professionally in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for a long time. I now live in Estes Park Colorado, at close to 8,000 feet. I live with my best friend, my 75-pound, female, deaf dog named Prudence. I've never had children or been married. I'm 100 percent for civil rights for all. Not just for white American males.

Later chapters address hot button issues such as gender equity, drug testing, and discrimination. Book Ad In Ad Out Collected Tennis Articles of Michael Mewshaw 1982 2015

Download or read book Ad In Ad Out Collected Tennis Articles of Michael Mewshaw 1982 2015 written by Michael Mewshaw and published by Unbridled Books. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past thirty-five years Michael Mewshaw has covered pro tennis with a novelist’s sense of style, a travel writer’s feeling for place and an investigative reporter’s commitment to unearthing the truth. Like Short Circuit, his description of life on the men’s tour – the New York Times hailed it as “one of the best books ever written about tennis, and the most timely” – and Ladies of the Court, his account of the women’s circuit, Mewshaw’s articles offer original and often shocking insights into a sport that all too often receives superficial coverage. AD IN AD OUT ranges over four decades, providing vivid profiles of Bjorn Borg, Gabriella Sabatini, Monica Seles, Ivan Lendl, Andrea Jaeger, Andre Agassi, Rafa Nadal and Serena Williams. It depicts the sport’s beauty, its captivating geometry, and its exhilarating mano a mano competition. Whether analyzing a Grand Slam final or self-deprecatingly admitting his own comic attempts to master the game, Mewshaw conveys his knowledge of tennis history, along with his passion for the sport and the men and women who excel at it. His evocation of high stakes tournaments in Italy, France and England is more than equaled by his accounts of matches on garage rooftops, on private and public London courts, and beside a Spanish swimming pool where his opponent wears espadrilles and a bikini. But AD IN AD OUT also discusses subjects that rarely get reported. Betting and match-fixing, performance enhancing drugs, tanking and sexual abuse all come in for factual examination. And so does the increasing frequency with which tournaments are played in sunny places for shady people, i.e. in tax havens, repressive states eager to improve their images, and lawless regions where organized crime has discovered tennis as an excellent way to launder money. After AD IN AD OUT no reader will ever watch tennis without realizing how much more there is to the game.
