This book was released on 2009 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Natural History Museum of the University of Florence, founded in 1775 by Grand-Duke Pietro Leopold, is the oldest scientific museum in Europe. With this second volume on the Botanical Collection, Florence University Press continues its series dedicated to the six Sections of the Museum. The first part of the volume recounts the birth of botanical sciences in Florence and the history of the museum collections from sixteenth century to today. Then follows the second part which describes the historical and modern Herbaria, for each of which the main events that went to their formation, the importance of the plants they contain and biographical information on those who built the collections are described. The third section expounds the other collections in the Botanical Section of the Museum, among which of particular interest are the wax models of plants and fruits, manufactured by the old Grand-ducal Ceroplastics Laboratory, the wood collection, plaster of Paris mushrooms and the eighteenth century still life paintings of fruits and vegetables by Bartolomeo Bimbi. Finally, the last part illustrates the importance that herbaria play today in modern scientific research, drawing attention to the fact that they are an archive that holds taxonomical, chorological and ecological information in function of the plants they contain, as well as historical-biographical information on the scholars who, through their efforts, built up the collections.

Book Donald Baechler XL XS Catalogo della mostra Isernia 16 ottobre 1 dicembre 2009 Ediz italiana e inglese

Download or read book Donald Baechler XL XS Catalogo della mostra Isernia 16 ottobre 1 dicembre 2009 Ediz italiana e inglese written by Donald Baechler and published by Silvana Editoriale. This book was released on 2009 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book was released on 1998 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectacle of Richard Kern's legendary filmmaking and photography incites many reactions, but rarely is indifference among them. His imagery's characteristic blitzkrieg of subversive eroticism, porno kitsch, punk sensibility and aggressive femininity has won admirers of the so-called grunge aesthetic. This book has images of Kern's recent work, which stands at the intersection of fashion, sex and politics. The critical text by Paparoni explores the relationship between some of Kern's subjects and famous images from pre-war art history.

Book Tibetan Yoga of Movement

Download or read book Tibetan Yoga of Movement written by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2013-07-23 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tibetan Yoga of Movement introduces the method of Yantra Yoga, a traditional Tibetan form that is one of the oldest recorded systems of yoga in the world. Derived from an eighth-century Tibetan Buddhist text, Yantra Yoga includes many positions similar to those of Hatha Yoga in form, but different in the dynamics of the way in which they are practiced, especially in the coordination of movement and breathing. The Yantra Yoga system encompasses 108 sets of movements (yantras) and several types of breathing to be learned at your own pace. Due to its emphasis on uniting breathing and movement, Yantra Yoga can deepen the experience of yoga practitioners from any tradition and profoundly benefit anyone seeking authentic balance, harmony, and the understanding of our true nature. Since the eighth century, this yoga teaching has been passed down from teacher to student in an unbroken lineage. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, the current lineage holder, began transmitting Yantra Yoga in the West in the 1970s. Presenting detailed instructions accompanied by over 400 instructional photos, the book describes the sequences of movements, methods of breathing, and the concrete health benefits of the practice.

Book Coaching by Values Cbv

Download or read book Coaching by Values Cbv written by Simon L. Dolan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-03 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about values. It is about life values, work values, family values, and world values. It is also about value alignment. Author Simon Dolan extends the concepts presented in the best-selling Managing by Values, adding many innovations including a step-by-step methodology for diagnosing value congruence and tools for conducting real value reengineering (value alignment). Dolan argues that when people understand their values (regardless of how and why they have emerged), and analyze their relative importance and consequences, they can see more clearly how these values affect their daily lives. Extensive research shows that realignment of values ensures better congruence with goals and objectivesresulting in deeper inner satisfaction, which positively affects overall well-being, state of mind, performance, and general happiness. This is what the author calls success in the life of business and the business of life. The description is fresh and innovative, the methodology is clear, and the tools can be used by individuals, business professionals, families, organizations, and wellness and life coaches alike. Book Following Osiris

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mark Smith
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2017
  • ISBN : 019958222X
  • Pages : 666 pages

Download or read book Following Osiris written by Mark Smith and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Osiris, god of the dead, was one of ancient Egypt's most important deities. The earliest secure evidence for belief in him dates back to the fifth dynasty (c.2494-2345BC), but he continued to be worshipped until the fifth century AD. Following Osiris is concerned with ancient Egyptian conceptions of the relationship between Osiris and the deceased, or what might be called the Osirian afterlife, asking what the nature of this relationship was and what the prerequisites were for enjoying its benefits. It does not seek to provide a continuous or comprehensive account of Egyptian ideas on this subject, but rather focuses on five distinct periods in their development, spread over four millennia. The periods in question are ones in which significant changes in Egyptian ideas about Osiris and the dead are known to have occurred or where it has been argued that they did, as Egyptian aspirations for the Osirian afterlife took time to coalesce and reach their fullest form of expression. An important aim of the book is to investigate when and why such changes happened, treating religious belief as a dynamic rather than a static phenomenon and tracing the key stages in the development of these aspirations, from their origin to their demise, while illustrating how they are reflected in the textual and archaeological records. In doing so, it opens up broader issues for exploration and draws meaningful cross-cultural comparisons to ask, for instance, how different societies regard death and the dead, why people convert from one religion to another, and why they abandon belief in a god or gods altogether.

Book Transcritique

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kojin Karatani
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2005-01-14
  • ISBN : 9780262263368
  • Pages : 382 pages

Download or read book Transcritique written by Kojin Karatani and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2005-01-14 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kojin Karatani's Transcritique introduces a startlingly new dimension to Immanuel Kant's transcendental critique by using Kant to read Karl Marx and Marx to read Kant. In a direct challenge to standard academic approaches to both thinkers, Karatani's transcritical readings discover the ethical roots of socialism in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and a Kantian critique of money in Marx's Capital. Karatani reads Kant as a philosopher who sought to wrest metaphysics from the discredited realm of theoretical dogma in order to restore it to its proper place in the sphere of ethics and praxis. With this as his own critical model, he then presents a reading of Marx that attempts to liberate Marxism from longstanding Marxist and socialist presuppositions in order to locate a solid theoretical basis for a positive activism capable of gradually superseding the trinity of Capital-Nation-State.
