Book O Woman Great is Your Faith

Download or read book O Woman Great is Your Faith written by Douglas Sean O'Donnell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of “faith” holds a central position in New Testament and early Christian thought, yet this concept has not received the careful attention it deserves in the Synoptic Gospels. The present study offers a comprehensive analysis of “faith” as a key motif in the Gospel of Matthew, where it plays a major role in communicating this Gospel’s vision for how readers should respond to the person and message of Jesus. The argument propounded is that Matthew’s unique narrative portrayal of the Canaanite woman’s faith (15:21–28) is used for pedagogical purposes, namely, that by comparing and contrasting her “great faith” with those characters expressing “no faith” and “little faith,” Matthew uses Jesus’s quantitative πίστ-terms to teach on the nature of true faith. She embodies Matthew’s theological vision of faith! Even though she is a gentile outsider/enemy, she comprehends the universal scope and abundant blessings of Jesus’s mission. Moreover, she acknowledges Jesus’s messianic identity, correctly perceiving him to be both David’s royal heir and David’s Lord. Finally, based on who she perceives Jesus to be and the purpose of his mission, she demonstrates faith as trust manifested in action.

Download or read book A Grain of Faith written by Allan Hepburn and published by Oxford Mid-Century Studies. This book was released on 2019-01-29 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During and after the Second World War, there was a concerted thinking about religion in Britain. Not only were leading international thinkers of the day theologians--Ronald Niebuhr, Paul Tillich, Jacques Maritain--but leading writers contributed to discussions about religion. Graham Greene, Muriel Spark, and Barbara Pym incorporated miracles, evil, and church-going into their novels, while Louis MacNeice, T. S. Eliot, and C. S. Lewis gave radio broadcasts about the role of Christianity in contemporary society. Certainly the war revived interest in aspects of Christian life. Salvation and redemption were on many people's minds. The Ministry of Information used images of bombed churches to stoke patriotic fervour, and King George VI led a series of Days of National Prayer that coincided with crucial events in the Allied campaign. After the war and throughout the 1950s, approximately 1.4 million Britons converted to Roman Catholicism as a way of expressing their spiritual ambitions and solidarity with humanity on a world-wide scale. Religion provided one way for writers to answer the question, 'what is man?' It also afforded ways to think about social obligation and ethical engagement. Moreover, the mid-century turn to religion offered ways to articulate statehood, not from the perspective of nationhood and politics, but from the perspective of moral action and social improvement. Instead of being a retreat into seclusion and solitude, the mid-century turn to religion is a call to responsibility.

Book excerpt: Faith to Conceive is a book about the challenges my husband and I have encountered in trying to conceive a child. Although everybody’s story is different, God’s unmovable, unshakeable love remains the same. My prayer is that my journey would encourage, motivate, and inspire women and couples to trust in God to conceive. The story of Hannah is an excellent example of Faith in action! This book takes you through my journey and goes deeper into the life of Hannah and her faith to conceive a son who became a leader in the nation of Israel and a prophet of God. Since God shows no partiality, I know he would do the same for you. Stir up your faith today and allow God to have his way in every area of your life. “As a woman, there are internal and external pressures for us to fulfill the very essence of our womanhood, and that is to give birth—birth to dreams and visions, and mostly, birth to life. There are circumstances that we face that sets a tone of discouragement, despair, and defeat, which we are tempted to speak when our heart-filled desires do not happen as we expect. We all face it in some area and time of our lives, but it is in how we respond that determines our outcomes. Michelle Joseph, a woman who endured the mountaintops and valleys, even the desert, expressly shares her journey to conceive. Michelle takes you through her struggle to live and to love, the battle to remain hopeful, and most of all, the trying of her faith to trust God at his will, way, and word. As you turn the pages, Michelle shares her emotions, cry to God, and prayers. Her hope is that you will be encouraged to stand on the promises of God and not lose hope for your desire to come through, knowing that God loves you and he is with you and for you” (Minister Simone Rawlins).

Book Fact Faith and Fiction in the Development of Science

Download or read book Fact Faith and Fiction in the Development of Science written by R. Hooykaas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this posthumous book, the late Professor R. Hooykaas (1906-1994) conveys a lifetime of historical thought about modes of scientific advance over the centuries. In what variety of ways has the human mind, with all its subjectivity and its capacity for self-deception, but also its piercing gifts of discovery, managed to come to terms with `the whimsical tricks of nature'? Central to this erudite, penetrating, and widely ranging study is Hooykaas's distinction between facts (given by nature yet entirely subject to our mode of interpreting them), faith (broad conceptions like the idea of order, of simplicity, or of harmony), and fictions in the sense of those daring intellectual tools, such as theories and hypotheses and models, which reflect the scientist's creative imagination. Case studies drawn from the history of all branches of science (including chemistry and the earth sciences) and from Antiquity to the present day, serve to widen and to deepen the understanding of every reader (whether a historian of science or not) with a desire to learn more about the realities of the scientific pursuit.

Book excerpt: "A devastating attack upon the dominance of atheism in science today." Giovanni Fazio, Senior Physicist, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics The debate over the ultimate source of truth in our world often pits science against faith. In fact, some high-profile scientists today would have us abandon God entirely as a source of truth about the universe. In this book, two professional astronomers push back against this notion, arguing that the science of today is not in a position to pronounce on the existence of God—rather, our notion of truth must include both the physical and spiritual domains. Incorporating excerpts from a letter written in 1615 by famed astronomer Galileo Galilei, the authors explore the relationship between science and faith, critiquing atheistic and secular understandings of science while reminding believers that science is an important source of truth about the physical world that God created.

It is my sincere prayer that as you read each chapter you will find hope and guidance through your present trial or storm. Be assured they will not remain as trials but afterwards our loving Savior will launch you into a blissful orbit where the richness of his triumphant victory resides. Trials are assigned by God and therefore their assignment has an expiration date. This book is written to inspire you to persevere through every trimester of the trial you encounter and understand the pain is essential to the new birth you are about to experience in your relationship with Christ. Reformation of our thoughts about suffering will bring about a new perception and understanding of its purpose beyond its presence. We must consider ourselves as privileged to suffer because of divine favor and selection for the advancement of the kingdom of God. During the trial allow Christ to mold you and prepare you to fulfill the divine assignment He has appointed to your destiny. Don’t walk away from the trial, but embrace it and gracefully endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. During the trial your faith will increase and your expectation will evolve to new levels as you become demonstrative of the power of Christ in your life.

Book Six Month Program Spiritual Conditioning

Download or read book Six Month Program Spiritual Conditioning written by Pat Jantomaso and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-01-13 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title suggests several things to the reader. The two words, SPIRITUAL AND CONDITIONING, are words that most people don't get too excited about, regardless of age or religious persuasion. Although, I believe that most would acknowledge both are important. What could be more important than a combination of sound physical and spiritual conditioning? Everybody realizes that both require personal initiative. Easier said than done? That's obvious, concerning the overall physical condition of the majority of Americans. Undeniably, our deplorable physically unfit condition, and subsequent problems, is well documented. Likewise, it appears the majority of nominal Christians are spiritually unfit, choosing to remain "babes-in-Christ", often times for years, suffering adverse consequences. Why? The lack of disciplined spiritual conditioning, growth and maturity, and the initiative to resolve. Granted, not easy, as it requires work, effort and discipline. Now enters, "Excuses", quenching any initial desires to get fit! Knowingly, choosing unfit over fit is a debilitating choice over the desire to become healthier, happier and stronger physically and spiritually. This book is not intended to be an indictment of the Christian populace, only a bona fide remedy to rectify this predicament. It follows God's directives. Unabashed honesty with self will necessitate appropriate action. Suffice it to say, God highly advocates spiritual conditioning over the physical (1Timothy 4:7-9). Physical workouts have some benefit, but a disciplined spiritual conditioning program makes you fit for all things, all the time, especially for the present difficult days, and the coming turbulent times. Thank God for his revealing Word, and powerful, comforting Holy Spirit, who strengthens you and I to stand steadfast when others, quit. Take this to heart and let it become your constant motivation to get into and stay in top spiritual shape. Come along with me in this disciplined program and enjoy permanant benefits and rewards. Today is your time to make it happen.
