Download or read book Sliding Friction written by Bo N.J. Persson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to produce durable low-friction surfaces and lubricant fluids has become an important factor in the miniaturization of moving components in many technological devices, e.g., magnetic storage, recording systems, miniature motors and many aerospace components. This book will be useful to physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and engineers who need to understand sliding friction. This second edition covers several new topics including friction on superconductors, simulations of the layering transition, nanoindentation, wear in combustion engines, rolling and sliding of carbon nanotubes, and the friction dynamics of granular materials.

Book Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling sliding Contacts

Download or read book Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling sliding Contacts written by Farshid Sadeghi and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete numerical solution of thermal compressible elastohydrodynamic lubrication of rolling/sliding contacts has been obtained. The Newton-Raphson technique is used to solve the simultaneous system of Reynolds and elasticity equations. The control volume finite element modeling was employed to solve the energy equation and its boundary conditions. The effects of various loads, speeds, and slip conditions on the lubricant temperature, film thickness, and friction force have been investigated. The results indicate that the temperature effects are significant and cannot be neglected.

Book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication

Download or read book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication written by D. Dowson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication deals with the mechanism of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication, that is, the lubrication regime in operation over the small areas where machine components are in nominal point or line contact. The lubrication of rigid contacts is discussed, along with the effects of high pressure on the lubricant and bounding solids. The governing equations for the solution of elasto-hydrodynamic problems are presented. Comprised of 13 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication and representation of contacts by cylinders, followed by a discussion on equations relevant to lubrication, including the Reynolds equation. The reader is then introduced to lubrication of rigid cylinders; the importance of film thickness in highly loaded rigid contacts; the elasticity of solids in contact; and the theory of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication. Subsequent chapters focus on apparatus and measurements of film thickness and film shape; friction and viscosity; and lubrication of gears and roller bearings. This book will be of interest to tribologists.

This book was released on 2007-12-06 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights some of the most important structural, chemical, mechanical and tribological characteristics of DLC films. It is particularly dedicated to the fundamental tribological issues that impact the performance and durability of these coatings. The book provides reliable and up-to-date information on available industrial DLC coatings and includes clear definitions and descriptions of various DLC films and their properties.

Book Friction and Lubrication in Mechanical Design

Download or read book Friction and Lubrication in Mechanical Design written by Shirley Seireg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-09-01 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how to control mechanisms of contact mechanics, heat generation and transfer, friction, noise generation, lubrication, and surface damage due to mechanical and thermal variables. Friction and Lubrication in Mechanical Design reviews various classical and new tribology problems beginning with history and ending with numerical optimization and examples, simplifies access to information for predicting and preventing friction and wear, and provides a useful tool for everyone involved in mechanical design, or in machinery monitoring.

Book Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings

Download or read book Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings written by Piet M. Lugt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive book on the science of grease lubrication for roller and needle bearings in industrial and vehicle engineering. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings provides an overview of the existing knowledge on the various aspects of grease lubrication (including lubrication systems) and the state of the art models that exist today. The book reviews the physical and chemical aspects of grease lubrication, primarily directed towards lubrication of rolling bearings. The first part of the book covers grease composition, properties and rheology, including thermal and dynamics properties. Later chapters cover the dynamics of greased bearings, including grease life, bearing life, reliability and testing. The final chapter covers lubrications systems – the systems that deliver grease to the components requiring lubrication. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings: Describes the underlying physical and chemical properties of grease. Discusses the effect of load, speed, temperature, bearing geometry, bearing materials and grease type on bearing wear. Covers both bearing and grease performance, including thermo-mechanical ageing and testing methodologies. It is intended for researchers and engineers in the petro-chemical and bearing industry, industries related to this (e.g. wind turbine industry, automotive industry) and for application engineers. It will also be of interest for teaching in post-graduate courses.
