Book Temperature Rise Tests of Mass Concrete for Locks and Dams 1 and 2 Arkansas Post Canal Route Arkansas River Arkansas

Download or read book Temperature Rise Tests of Mass Concrete for Locks and Dams 1 and 2 Arkansas Post Canal Route Arkansas River Arkansas written by H. T Thornton (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation was to proportion a mass concrete mixture from materials designated for this project, using mixture proportions the same as or similar to those which are to be used in the field, and to determine the 28-day adiabatic temperature rise and other thermal properties of the mixture. The report lists the materials and describes the mixtures used in preparing two 15-cu-ft batches of concrete from which test specimens were made for adiabatic temperature-rise, thermal diffusivity, and compressive strength tests. It presents the test procedures used and results obtained in tests on the two batches of freshly mixed concrete and on the hardened test specimens.

Book Comparative Adiabatic Temperature rise Tests of Mass Concrete

Download or read book Comparative Adiabatic Temperature rise Tests of Mass Concrete written by Ernest E. McCoy and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two identical adiabatic calorimeters designed to accommodate 30- by 60-in. cylindrical concrete specimens were placed in operation at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) in 1961. They are used to determine the temperature rise in concrete that is caused by the exothermic chemical reactions of the cementitious materials. After the calorimeters were used for several months, the test procedure was revised. This revised procedure improved the accuracy of test results. Comparative tests were conducted at the University of California, where a similar calorimeter, identical concrete mixture, and the same test procedure were used. The temperature rise at 28 days was within 0.54 F of that of WES specimens. It is concluded, therefore, that the current test procedure is satisfactory. The test procedure, CRD-C 38-66, is included as Appendix A, and the University of California report of tests is included as Appendix B. (Author).

Book Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States

Download or read book Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-07-29 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scores of talented and dedicated people serve the forensic science community, performing vitally important work. However, they are often constrained by lack of adequate resources, sound policies, and national support. It is clear that change and advancements, both systematic and scientific, are needed in a number of forensic science disciplines to ensure the reliability of work, establish enforceable standards, and promote best practices with consistent application. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward provides a detailed plan for addressing these needs and suggests the creation of a new government entity, the National Institute of Forensic Science, to establish and enforce standards within the forensic science community. The benefits of improving and regulating the forensic science disciplines are clear: assisting law enforcement officials, enhancing homeland security, and reducing the risk of wrongful conviction and exoneration. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States gives a full account of what is needed to advance the forensic science disciplines, including upgrading of systems and organizational structures, better training, widespread adoption of uniform and enforceable best practices, and mandatory certification and accreditation programs. While this book provides an essential call-to-action for congress and policy makers, it also serves as a vital tool for law enforcement agencies, criminal prosecutors and attorneys, and forensic science educators.

Book Repair and Rehabilitation of Dams

Download or read book Repair and Rehabilitation of Dams written by James E. McDonald and published by Washington, D.C. : U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center. This book was released on 1999 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to identify methods that have been used in the repair and rehabilitation of concrete dams. Information was obtained through literary searches, discussions with project personnel, and visits to project sites. Each case history includes a background of the project, the deficiency that necessitated repair or rehabilitation, and descriptions of materials and methods used in the repair or rehabilitation. When available, the cost of the repair project and the performance of the repair to date have been included. Case histories included in this report cover a range of deficiencies in concrete structures, including cracking, spalling, erosion, leakage, inadequate PMF capacity, expansion resulting from alkali-aggregate reaction, instability, and insufficient storage capacity.
