Book excerpt: Excerpt from Temperature, Moisture, and Relative Humidity of Stored Tobacco Flue cured tobacco is aged for a minimum of 2 or 3 years. During this period, the tobacco mellows, develops a characteristic aroma and color, and improves in burning quality. Despite the many years that have passed since producers first began aging tobacco, the amount of published data on the temperature and moisture of the commodity during storage is meager. While in storage, tobacco is subject to attack by insects. To better understand the ecology of insects that attack tobacco, we obtained data on out? Side and warehouse temperatures and relative humidities, and on the effects of these factors on temperature and moisture of tobacco in storage. These data were obtained during 1967 from a tobacco warehouse in Wilson, N. C. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The amount of the former may vary in American, Greek, and German tobaccos from 2, 3, or 4 per cent to 8 per cent of the dry leaf. One-third of this and even more can turn into amido compounds in the curing process. Regulation of heat and. Moisture - Further changes, relating to color and navor, -set in with the death of the cells. However, it requires a most judicious regulation of the moisture, temperature, and ventila 'tion of the barn where the tobacco leaves are hung up to obtain those changes which characterize cured tobacco of a superior quality. This curing process may last four weeks or even much longer.2 When the weather is too dry all the chemical changes in the leaves come to a pre mature stop, but on the other hand when it is too moist the danger of mold development arises. In the former case the barns must be eventually kept closed and water introduced, while in the latter case careful application of heat may be resorted to. Book Smokeless Tobacco and Some Tobacco specific N nitrosamines

This book was released on 2007 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eighty-ninth volume of the IARC Monographs is the third and last of a series on tobacco-related agents. Volume 83 reported on the carcinogenicity of tobacco smoke and involuntary smoking (second-hand smoke or environmental tobacco smoke) (IARC 2004a). Volume 85 summarized the evidence on the carcinogenic risk of chewing betel quid with and without tobacco (IARC 2004b). That volume explored the variety of products chewed in South Asia and other parts of the word that contain areca nut in combination with other ingredients, often including tobacco. In this eighty-ninth volume, the carcinogenic risks associated with the use of smokeless tobacco, including chewing tobacco and snuff, are considered in a first monograph.
