The subjects treated in the twenty-eight les sons are, to some degree, the same as those included in my Spanish Composition, published some years ago, but the texts are sufliciently dissimilar for the two books to be used to advantage in alternating years in the same school. Each of the first twenty lessons is divided into five parts. In the first part, the fundamental principles of grammar are studied systematically, and the grammati. Cal rules are stated, briefly and simply, in Spanish, Opinions may difier as to the advisability of introducing a considerable amount of Spanish grammatical ter minology in the elementary course, but it seems rea sonable that when the grammar is reviewed, students should at least be required to read the rules in Spanish. Whether any further use will be made of this material in the classroom will depend upon the judgment of the teacher.
