Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is currently a proliferation of private telecommunications networks in al most every country of the world. More and more companies are setting up own privately managed and controlled telecommunications networks. Some observers fear that this development may lead to a fragmented telecommunications infra structure in which communication becomes increasingly difficult. Thus, the "net working" of private firms raises questions which resemble certain arguments in the classical "monopoly versus competition" debate in telecommunications. The central problem is whether the creation of a modern and competitive infrastructure can be left to the decentralised decision-making of private economic agents or not. In or der to assess this problem it is indispensible to look more deeply into the actual telecommunications activities of firms. In which ways do firms use telematics? In how far are their strategic options increased by telematics? Are there significant differences in the application of telematics across industries? Are there significant differences in the application of telematics across countries with differing regula tory regimes? Do large firms try to influence telecommunications policy in order to make it more responsive to their needs? These are only some of the questions focussing on the interrelation between firm's competitive strategy, their use of te lematics and the national telecommunications regulatory framework that we want to address in the following for the case of West-Germany.

Book Dictionary of Contemporary Germany

Download or read book Dictionary of Contemporary Germany written by Tristam Carrington-Windo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of dictionaries on the contemporary milieu of the world's most important countries. The ContemporaryCountry Dictionary series are not tourist guides--though tourists with a serious interest in countries they are visiting will find them of great help in learning more about these societies. These alphabetical reference guides have been compiled to give up-to-date information on all aspects of each country--explanations of terms that are outside the scope of a standard dictionary or encyclopedia--including acronyms, political and legal institutions, cultural phenomena, social welfare programs, industrial concerns, media, literary and political personalities, and much more. Each Dictionary has been compiled by two people--a native of the individual country and an English-speaking collaborator from either Great Britain or the United States. Readers are thus assured of authoritative information that is rendered in terms comprehensible to English-language readers. The Dictionaries will prove invaluable to researchers, librarians, and students.

Book Regulatory Pathways For Smart Grid Development in China

Download or read book Regulatory Pathways For Smart Grid Development in China written by Gert Brunekreeft and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-19 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study’s recommendations describe institutional elements in the context of electric power sector regulation and has the objective to increase the understanding of the interdependencies of the institutional elements. In future work, the study results might be employed for designing very specific regulatory policies. The recommendations developed in this study focus primarily on the regulatory framework for smart grids and contains a quite detailed description of how the German electricity markets evolved. It also focuses on the effects of ambitiously expanding generation capacities of renewable energy sources (RES) on established electricity markets. The presented evidence will provide insights on how the regulatory framework in China could be designed to foster smart grids developments in the context of establishing electricity markets and expanding RES generation capacities.

Book New Industry 4 0 Advances in Industrial IoT and Visual Computing for Manufacturing Processes

Download or read book New Industry 4 0 Advances in Industrial IoT and Visual Computing for Manufacturing Processes written by Luis Norberto López de Lacalle and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern factories are experiencing rapid digital transformation supported by emerging technologies, such as the Industrial Internet of things (IIOT), industrial big data and cloud technologies, deep learning and deep analytics, AI, intelligent robotics, cyber-physical systems and digital twins, complemented by visual computing (including new forms of artificial vision with machine learning, novel HMI, simulation, and visualization). This is evident in the global trend of Industry 4.0. The impact of these technologies is clear in the context of high-performance manufacturing. Important improvements can be achieved in productivity, systems reliability, quality verification, etc. Manufacturing processes, based on advanced mechanical principles, are enhanced by big data analytics on industrial sensor data. In current machine tools and systems, complex sensors gather useful data, which is captured, stored, and processed with edge, fog, or cloud computing. These processes improve with digital monitoring, visual data analytics, AI, and computer vision to achieve a more productive and reliable smart factory. New value chains are also emerging from these technological changes. This book addresses these topics, including contributions deployed in production, as well as general aspects of Industry 4.0.
