Download or read book Technology and Use of Lignite written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1965 Lignite Symposium, the fourth in a series and the third sponsored by the University of North Dakota, and the Bureau of Mines, was held at Bismark, N. Dak., on April 29-30, 1965. These symposia provide a forum for those interested in the technology and utilization of solid fuels, especially lignitic coals. As part of the meeting, a 200-mile field trip was taken including inspection of (1) the 200-metawatt, pulverized lignite-fired Leland Olds plant of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, under construction near Stanton, N. Dak.; (2) the site of the Glenharold mine of the Truax-Traer Coal Co., Division of Consolidation Coal Co., where a wheel excavator was being assembled; (3) the operating Beulah mine of Knife River Coal Mining Co., subsidiary fo Montana Dakota Utilities Co., near Beulah, N. Dak.; and (4) the 400-megawatt, hydroelectric Garrison Dam powerplant, near Garrison, N. Dak. During the technical sessions, 13 papers were presented covering some the recent trends, development, and research in lignite technology. The text of these papers is compiled to provide a record of the symposium and to allow wider dissemination of the information. Proceedings of the previous symposia have been published.

Book Lignites of North America

Download or read book Lignites of North America written by H.H. Schobert and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-01-10 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a comprehensive survey of the origin, the fundamental properties, and the technology of utilization of the lignites of North America, this book will be of particular interest to professional scientists and engineers working in coal research or coal technology. Coals display a continuum of properties, often with no sharp, steep change between ranks and thus the book restricts the discussion strictly to lignites (with the occasional comparisons with other coals). There is a very extensive index, making the contents of the book easily accessible to the reader.

Download or read book Coal written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal will continue to provide a major portion of energy requirements in the United States for at least the next several decades. It is imperative that accurate information describing the amount, location, and quality of the coal resources and reserves be available to fulfill energy needs. It is also important that the United States extract its coal resources efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. A renewed focus on federal support for coal-related research, coordinated across agencies and with the active participation of the states and industrial sector, is a critical element for each of these requirements. Coal focuses on the research and development needs and priorities in the areas of coal resource and reserve assessments, coal mining and processing, transportation of coal and coal products, and coal utilization.

Book Report on the Brown Coal and Lignite of Texas

Download or read book Report on the Brown Coal and Lignite of Texas written by Edwin T. Dumble and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on the Brown Coal and Lignite of Texas: Character, Formation, Occurrence, and Fuel Uses State Geologist E. T. Dumble visited Germany and Austria and made a careful and thorough examination of the mines and factories of those countries to ascertain the character, use, and value of lignites, and by comparison to find out the value of the lignites of Texas, and how same could be best utilized as fuel. The question of cheap fuel, especially for manufacturing purposes, has long been a serious one with Texas, which has been solved by Professor Dumble, as will appear from the results Of his efforts embraced in this Report, for which he deserves great praise. The last few months, includ ing the trip to the other side, has been only a small portion of the time he has given to the utilization of Texas lignites, for it has been a study of years with him, and long before his connection with the State Survey he became interested in the subject and devoted much time and atten tion to it. The result at last achieved has fully repaid him for all work done. Texas will reap the grand benefits, for the capitalists will come and establish industries, the wants of the people will be supplied at home, and prosperity will abound. That the brown coal is the cheap fuel so long needed is no longer a question, for which all Texas should rejoice. Book Low rank Coals for Power Generation Fuel and Chemical Production

Download or read book Low rank Coals for Power Generation Fuel and Chemical Production written by Zhongyang Luo and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-22 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-Rank Coals for Power Generation, Fuel and Chemical Production provides a thorough introduction to lignite (brown coal) and subbituminous coals and explores how they can be used efficiently and economically in place of hard coal. The book examines the undesirable characteristics of low-quality coals, such as high moisture content, low calorific value, and aggressive ash characteristics, and the resulting refinements to standard technologies and practices required for successful combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis. The first part of this book provides a comprehensive and systematic review of the properties of low-rank coals and corresponding preparation methods, such as drying, cleaning, and upgrading. Power generation from low-rank coals is the focus of Part 2, with chapter topics ranging from high efficiency pulverized coal combustion and circulating fluidized bed combustion to emerging areas such as chemical looping and oxyfuel combustion. The final contributions address the important subjects of coal-to-liquids,polygeneration and coke production using low-rank coals, as well as the critical issue of carbon capture and storage. This book is a valuable resource for power generation engineers and researchers seeking to maximize the opportunities provided by these cheaper coal feedstocks for efficient and environmentally compatible power generation. Presents the most in-depth treatment of low-rank coals available Addresses both power generation and fuel production Includes coverage that spans pulverized coal combustion and emerging technologies, such as CFBC, UCG, CLC, and oxyfuel combustion
