Book Public Private Partnerships

Download or read book Public Private Partnerships written by Albert N. Link and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-04 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and development (R and D) leads to innovation, and innovation leads to technological change. Technological change, in turn, is the primary driver of economic growth. Public/private partnerships -- cooperative relationships among industry, government, and/or universities -- leverage the efficiency of R and D and are thus a critical aspect of a nation’s innovation system. This text is intended for upper-level undergraduate and MBA courses such as Economics and Technology, Economics of Innovation, and Economics of Science and Technology, among others. The first chapter introduces the concept of public/private research partnerships along with other concepts fundamental to an understanding of innovation and technology policy. The framework chapters (2-5) set forth an argument for the public’s role – government’s role – in innovation in general and in public/private partnership in particular. The remaining chapters (6-14) describe a number of public/private partnerships and, to the extent possible, evaluate their social impact.

Book excerpt: The United States has long recognized that the nation's prosperity and security depend on how we address challenges of disasters, poverty, famine, and disease around the world. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has played a vital role in promoting U.S. national and international interests by advancing strategies for employing science, technology, and innovation to respond to global challenges. The Role of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships in the Future of USAID provides an assessment and advice on the current and future role for science, technology, and innovation in assistance programs at USAID and on the role of partnerships in the public and private sectors to expand impact. This report examines challenges and opportunities for USAID in expanding the utilization of science, technology, and innovation in development assistance; assesses how USAID has deployed science, technology, and innovation; and recommends priority areas for improvement going forward in partnership with others.

Book Cooperative Research Centers and Technical Innovation

Download or read book Cooperative Research Centers and Technical Innovation written by Craig Boardman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when scientific and technical innovation now requires a multitude of heterogeneous inputs and expertise from the public and private sectors alike, cooperative research centers (CRCs) have emerged as the predominant vehicle for cross-sector collaboration. In the U.S. alone, there are thousands of CRCs on university campuses, and agencies like the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and more recently the Department of Energy fund CRCs to address some of the nation’s most formidable challenges with science and technology, including cancer and other diseases, terrorism surveillance and the detection of weapons of mass destruction, and new energy technologies and smart energy grid development. Industry oftentimes participates in CRCs for access to knowledge, capacity development, and to mitigate risk. This volume includes research investigating CRCs from North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia to explore the dynamics of CRCs, including but not limited to resource allocation, structure, level of sponsorship, organization and membership, management and operations, objectives and goals, and in doing so identifies both differences and similarities across institutional and national contexts. The volume sheds light on the role of CRCs in promoting innovation, S&T policy, and economic development, and on the practical aspects of successful CRC management. Moreover, the works included in the volume consider the implications for the various stakeholder groups (firms, universities, researchers, students, policymakers) invested in CRCs.

This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the genuine proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on the Strategic Approaches to the Assessment and Management of Manufacturing Technology Innovation, Bled, Slovenia, June 3-5, 1997. The word 'genuine' is used as the content of this book has arisen from ideas and reflections which arose during and after the workshop itself. It contains no pre-prepared papers or articles. The workshop was designed to create a forum for dialogue and debate. The essence of that debate is contained here. We acknowledge the support of NATO in making this possible. Because of the peculiar nature of these proceedings, we acknowledge all workshop participants as co-authors of different parts of the book and we pay tribute to them all. The proceedings have taken a while to prepare, as the reflection process has been long and varied! 1 Technosophy: Strategic Approaches to the Assessment and Management of Manufacturing Technology Innovation Paul Levy Mihael Junkar Location: Bled, Slovenia Date: June 3-5 1997 A 3-day workshop "Though our smoke may hide the Heavens from your eyes, It will vanish and the stars will shine again, Because, for all our power and weight and size, We are nothing more than children of your brain. Book Organizational Innovation

Download or read book Organizational Innovation written by Gerald Hage and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-20 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1998. In the past year the 300 largest global companies increased their research budgets by an average of 12 per cent. Governments now measure how technologically advanced they are as they worry about their trade balances and unemployment. Many public sector organizations, for example hospitals, universities and welfare agencies, are struggling to keep up with the rate of technological progress. The selections in this book provide a number of insights on how private firms can be more innovative and public sector organizations can keep up with rapid technological change. They emphasize both radical and incremental innovations and both product and process innovation. In particular the advanced manufacturing technologies so central to Piore and Sabel’s ’Second Industrial Divide’ receive a great deal of attention. Finally, the consequences of innovation are the focus of the last section.

Book Commercialisation and Innovation Strategy in Small Firms

Download or read book Commercialisation and Innovation Strategy in Small Firms written by Tim Mazzarol and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the process of commercialisation and innovation management in small firms. Although commercialisation and new product development (NPD) has been covered quite extensively, relatively little attention has been given to how small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) engage with these issues. The book explores this topic in depth, taking a close look at the reasons why decisions are made and mapping this behaviour against established theories and “best practice” models of NPD and commercialisation. The book uses case studies to analyse the relationship between entrepreneurial decision- making and commercialisation, and investigates how and why NPD and commercialisation decisions are made, which offers valuable insights from both a theoretical and applied perspective.
