Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rationality is one of the basic underlying assumptions of economic behaviour of an individual, firm or industry. Economic theory rests on and takes as its starting point the assumption that each economic producer tries to maximize his individual gain, that profit motivation governs the behaviour of producers . This assumption is more true in explaining the behaviour of the non-agricultural sector of the economies than that of the agricultural sector. Contents: Introduction, Select Review of Literature and Methodology, Agricultural Economy, Regional Imbalances in Agricultural Growth, The Supply Behaviour of Food and Nonfood Crops, Regional Variations in Supply Behaviour of Major Crops, Summary of Findings.

Download or read book Sons of the Soil written by Myron Weiner and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myron Weiner's study of the relationship between internal migration and ethnic conflict in India is exceptional for two reasons: it focuses on intercultural and interstate migration throughout the nation, rather than on merely local or provincial phenomena, and it examines both the social and the political consequences of India's interethnic migrations. Professor Weiner examines selected regions of India in which migrants dominate the modern sector of the economy. He describes the forces that lead individual Indian citizens to move from one linguistic-cultural region to another in search of better opportunities, and he attempts to explain their emergence at the top of the occupational hierarchy. In addition, the author provides an account of the ways in which the indigenous ethnic groups ("sons of the soil") attempt to use political power to overcome their fears of economic defeat and cultural subordination by the more enterprising, more highly skilled, better educated migrants. In addressing the fundamental clash between the migrants' claims to equal access to their country and the claims of the local groups to equal treatment and protection by the state, Professor Weiner considers some of the ways in which government policy makers might achieve greater equality among ethnic groups without simultaneously restricting the spatial and social mobility of some of its own people. Download or read book Reassessing the Role of Management in the Golden Age written by Daniela Felisini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a critical reassessment of the role of the public sector during the Golden Age in both advanced and emerging economies. Contributions focus on a major player in the setting of mixed economies: the top managers of state-owned enterprises. Bringing together world-renowned scholars, this collection analyzes the actions of these managers and their contribution to the rise and fall of the mixed economy during the Golden Age, opening up a comparative perspective of the topic. The book forces readers to reconsider how crucial state-owned enterprises were for economic recovery and for the modernization of the production apparatus of many countries in Western Europe, India, Latin America and South Africa. Key chapters discuss state-owned enterprises in twentieth-century Europe, the managerial revolution in Italy, the role of the state in Argentine industrialization, and the organization of capital in the Indian economy. This insightful collection will appeal to scholars and students with an interest in economic history and the socio-economic impact of state-owned companies around the globe.
