Download or read book Techniques for the Wheeled skidder Operator written by Robert L. Hartman and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2How much production a logger gets from a logging job may depend heavily on his skidder operators. They are key men on any logging job. This is one conclusion that forestry engineers at the USDA Forest Service's Forestry Sciences Laboratory at Morgantown, West Virginia, came to after studying the operation of wheeled skidders in mountainous Appalachian terrain. Out of these studies we can suggest ways that new or experienced skidder operators might improve their operating ability and thus increase their production. This information might also be helpful to logging contractors in training their skidder operators for more efficient production. S3.

Download or read book Factors Affecting the Production of Rubber tired Skidders written by Jerry L. Koger and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional forms of regression equations were developed for predicting cycle times for rubber-tired skidders in the 70-165 horsepower range. Variables other than volume found to affect skidding times were soil strength, rut depth, slope, segment length, radius of curvature, elevation, horsepower, equipment weight, and skidding distance. Separate equations in English and metric units were derived for board feet, cubic feet, cords, pounds, and load positioning.

Download or read book Some Effects of Paraformaldehyde on Wood Surrounding Tapholes in Sugar Maple Trees written by Alex L. Shigo and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Pills of paraformaldehyde (trioxymethylene) are commonly used in tapholes in sugar maple trees (Acer saccharum Marsh.) to increase the yield of sap collected for making syrup and sugar (2, 4, 5, 8). The explanation offered for this increase in sap yield is that microorganisms in the tapholes (7) cause premature decline and stoppage of the sap flow (1, 6), but that paraformaldehyde increases sap yield by inhibiting their growth (2). But what happens to the tree? To determine the effects of paraformaldehyde on the tissues surrounding tapholes, and on the microorganisms in those tissues, sugar maple trees were dissected and studied. This paper is a report on that study.S3.

Download or read book A Technique for Comparing the Costs of Skidding Methods written by Paul L. Schillings and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of tables shows costs of skidding as determined by various types of equipment, distances for skidding, percent of slope, logs per MBF, and MBF per acre. By consulting these tables a contractor can compare methods of skidding according to their relative operating costs and thus estimates must be regarded as tentative and subject to revision.
