Book MANUFACTURING METHODS FOR HOT STRUCTURES

Download or read book MANUFACTURING METHODS FOR HOT STRUCTURES written by J. CLAUS and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental life tests were conducted on a 10-5-ft-long 'Hot Structures' model component. The model was fabricated from the superalloy material Rene' 41 except for the lower surface skin panels which utilized HS-25. The model successfully sustained the test conditions of load and maximum external surface temperatures to 2000 F. The first test consisted of applying loads to the model at room temperature. Strain gage data converted to stress was recorded. Deflections at 20 points on the model were also taken. Heat without load was applied to the lower surface of the model until maximum surface temperatures of 1600 and 1800 F were reached. These temperatures were then held for 30 min each. A third cycle at a programmed temperature of 1900 F was applied for 15 min, and temperatures and deflection data were recorded. A series of combined load and heat tests were conducted. The conditions simulated those encountered by a typical hypersonic boost-glide vehicle during reentry. The test program verified the 'Hot Structures' design concept and the manufacturing methods and techniques. (Author).

Book Theory and Practice of Thermal Transient Testing of Electronic Components

Download or read book Theory and Practice of Thermal Transient Testing of Electronic Components written by Marta Rencz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-23 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the significant aspects of thermal transient testing, the most important method of thermal characterization of electronics available today. The book presents the theoretical background of creating structure functions from the measured results with mathematical details. It then shows how the method can be used for thermal qualification, structure integrity testing, determining material parameters, and calibrating simulation models. General practical questions about measurements are discussed to help beginners carry out thermal transient testing. The particular problems and tricks of measuring with various electronic components, such as Si diodes, bipolar transistors, MOS transistors, IGBT devices, resistors, capacitors, wide bandgap materials, and LEDs, are covered in detail with the help of various use cases. This hands-on book will enable readers to accomplish thermal transient testing on any new type of electronics and provides the theoretical details needed to understand the opportunities and limitations offered by the methodology. The book will be an invaluable reference for practicing engineers, students, and researchers.

Book Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of Fiber Reinforced Composite Structures

Download or read book Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of Fiber Reinforced Composite Structures written by Shuncong Zhong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-01 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed description of the most common nondestructive testing(NDT) techniques used for the testing and evaluation fiber-reinforced composite structures, during manufacturing and/or in service stages. In order to facilitate the understanding and the utility of the different NDT techniques presented, the book first provides some information regarding the defects and material degradation mechanisms observed in fiber-reinforced composite structures as well as their general description and most probable causes. It is written based on the extensive scientific research and engineering backgrounds of the authors in the NDT and structural health monitoring (SHM) of structural systems from various areas including electrical, mechanical, materials, civil and biomedical engineering. Pursuing a rigorous approach, the book establishes a fundamental framework for the NDT of fiber-reinforced composite structures, while emphasizing on the importance of technique’s spatial resolution, integrated systems analysis and the significance of the influence stemming from the applicability of the NDT and the physical parameters of the test structures in the selection and utilization of adequate NDT techniques. The book is intended for students who are interested in the NDT of fiber-reinforced composite structures, researchers investigating the applicability of different NDT techniques to the inspections of structural systems, and NDT researchers and engineers working on the optimization of NDT systems for specific applications involving the use of fiber-reinforced composite structures.

Book Reusable Launch Vehicle

  • Author : Committee on Reusable Launch Vehicle Technology and Test Program
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 1996-01-22
  • ISBN : 0309588960
  • Pages : 99 pages

Download or read book Reusable Launch Vehicle written by Committee on Reusable Launch Vehicle Technology and Test Program and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-01-22 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key to opening the use of space to private enterprise and to broader public uses lies in reducing the cost of the transportation to space. More routine, affordable access to space will entail aircraft-like quick turnaround and reliable operations. Currently, the space Shuttle is the only reusable launch vehicle, and even parts of it are expendable while other parts require frequent and extensive refurbishment. NASA's highest priority new activity, the Reusable Launch Vehicle program, is directed toward developing technologies to enable a new generation of space launchers, perhaps but not necessarily with single stage to orbit capability. This book assesses whether the technology development, test and analysis programs in propulsion and materials-related technologies are properly constituted to provide the information required to support a December 1996 decision to build the X-33, a technology demonstrator vehicle; and suggest, as appropriate, necessary changes in these programs to ensure that they will support vehicle feasibility goals.
