Book Asymptotic Symmetry and Its Implication in Elementary Particle Physics

Download or read book Asymptotic Symmetry and Its Implication in Elementary Particle Physics written by S. Oneda and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In elementary particle physics, there are a number of recognizable underlying symmetries which correctly describe spectacular multiplet structure of observed particles. However, lack of a consistent method to deal with badly broken symmetry has hindered the investigation through symmetry. With this book the authors hope to arouse interest in the approach to broken symmetry from a fresh point of view. The authors argue that spectrum generating symmetries still maintain asymptotic symmetry for physical (not virtual) particles. When combined with the symmetry related equal-time commutation relations which are derivable from fundamental Lagrangian, asymptotic symmetry then demands a close interplay among the masses, mixing parameters and coupling constants of physical particles. From this point of view, we may understand the success of the naive quark model, remarkable mass and mass-mixing angle relations in QCD and electroweak theory and even the presence of dynamical selection rules. The method may also give us a powerful tool for the study of new physics where fundamental Lagrangian is not yet known.

Book TV Snapshots

  • Author : Lynn Spigel
  • Publisher : Duke University Press

  • ISBN : 1478022892
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book TV Snapshots written by Lynn Spigel and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2022-04-08 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In TV Snapshots, Lynn Spigel explores snapshots of people posing in front of their television sets in the 1950s through the early 1970s. Like today’s selfies, TV snapshots were a popular photographic practice through which people visualized their lives in an increasingly mediated culture. Drawing on her collection of over 5,000 TV snapshots, Spigel shows that people did not just watch TV: women used the TV set as a backdrop for fashion and glamour poses; people dressed in drag in front of the screen; and in pinup poses, people even turned the TV setting into a space for erotic display. While the television industry promoted on-screen images of white nuclear families in suburban homes, the snapshots depict a broad range of people across racial, ethnic, and class backgrounds that do not always conform to the reigning middle-class nuclear family ideal. Showing how the television set became a central presence in the home that exceeded its mass entertainment function, Spigel highlights how TV snapshots complicate understandings of the significance of television in everyday life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Song's theology is a startling rebuke to Christologies centered either in historical-critical searches or church doctrines. For Song, theology is the biography of God, and God's reign is evident in stories of God's saving presence in Jesus. The reign of God in Jesus "becomes manifest through movements of people to be free from the shackles of the past, to change the status quo of the present, and to have a role to play in the arrival of the future".

Download or read book Madonna Complex written by Jen Stewart Fueston and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to say yes?--to God, to the Spirit, to art, to love, to motherhood, to the dazzling & tangible world? Mary's response to the angel, saying "Let it be to me as you have said," is an essential moment in the life of a disciple, a woman, and an artist. In Madonna, Complex, Mary's "yes" is a moment of opening, of allowing her very body to become a co-creator with God and a conduit for the coming of grace into the world. However, womanhood in all its fullness--sexuality, marriage, infertility, childbirth, nursing--inevitably complicates traditional Christian imagery of Mary. Madonna, Complex chronicles a feminine faith journey alongside saints like Joan of Arc and Saint Kateri, images of motherhood in visual art, through holy days of the Christian calendar--Ash Wednesday, Holy Saturday, All Saints Day--and sites of pilgrimage, cathedrals, wilderness, and other places holiness can be found. These poems explore the complexities of the messages we receive about what it means to say yes to God, or to something larger than ourselves that demands our attention and energy, whether it's bearing a child or participating in a political protest.

Book On Living with Television

Download or read book On Living with Television written by Amy Holdsworth and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In On Living with Television, Amy Holdsworth examines the characteristics of intimacy, familiarity, repetition, and duration that have come to exemplify the medium of television. Drawing on feminist television studies, queer theory, and disability studies as well as autobiographical life-writing practices, Holdsworth shows how television shapes everyday activities, from eating and sleeping to driving and homemaking. Recounting her own life with television, she offers a sense of the joys and pleasures Disney videos brought to her disabled sister, traces how bedtime television becomes part of a daily routine between child and caregiver, explores her own relationship to binge-eating and binge-viewing, and considers the idea of home through the BBC family drama Last Tango in Halifax. By foregrounding the ways in which television structures our relationships, daily routines, and sense of time, Holdsworth demonstrates how television emerges as a potent vehicle for writing about life.

Download or read book Why I Am Not a Calvinist written by Jerry L. Walls and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's wrong with Calvinism? Since the Reformation, Calvinism has dominated much of evangelical thought. It has been so well established that many Christians simply assume it to be the truest expression of Christian doctrine. But Calvinism has some serious biblical and theological weaknesses that unsettle laypeople, pastors and scholars alike. God is sovereign. All evangelical Christians--whether Arminians or Calvinists--have no doubt about this fundamental truth. But how does God express his sovereignty? Is God a master puppeteer, pulling our strings? Or has he graciously given his children freedom to respond to his love? In this eminently readable book, Jerry L. Walls and Joseph R. Dongell explore the flaws of Calvinist theology. Why I Am Not a Calvinist is a must-read for all who struggle with the limitations of this dominant perspective within evangelical theology.
