Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crying is so naturally human. Wanting to feel safe is too. But what if you knew that who you are meant to be in this world is not always welcomed or accepted? Or that, until you have shared this important piece of yourself, you would not feel seen, in your own skin? This is the reality for Gordi Mech, a 13-year old boy on the verge of coming out. Waking up on the day of his Grade 8 Graduation, he feels this call inside him, begging for him to finally live on the outside how he has felt on the inside, for years. But for this to happen, he must revisit all of the events and circumstances and even internal narratives he has about himself, waging these memories against his will to finally tell those he loves that he's gay. And determining whether or not it's enough. Closet Tears, originally published under the title Defying Gay Gravity, by author, teacher, and meditator Greg Maxton, brings Gordi's intrinsic story back to life, as he seeks to evolve the deeper truths within the character's heart. This juvenile fiction novel is a second iteration of a timeless story of coming out, and the importance of balancing self-preservation with acts of courageous vulnerability, in the ultimate pursuit of self-knowledge, self-love, and limitless self-compassion." This novel might be what every kid needs in order to know that they are not alone, and that the person they are becoming is exactly who they should be." - Heather Beveridge, book reviewer for ETFO VOICE (Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario") "The gift of acceptance is the one I'd wanted for myself today - Gordi's words, but Greg's spirit. When he finally reads the last page, Greg closes the book and lays it in his lap. The students exhale, almost as a group, and then begin to clap and cheer. 'You have to be patient with the people in your life, ' he explains, 'especially when they haven't learned what they need to learn yet to understand you.'" - Jennifer Drope, Editor of ETFO Voice.

Book When Tears Fall Short

Download or read book When Tears Fall Short written by Halina Ross and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-05-16 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “When Tears Fall Short” is the true story of the life of a young woman ravaged by war and loss, who feels compelled to record her account of World War II. She sees life through the eyes of a human being struggling to stay alive and at the same time blossoming into womanhood. The resilient nature of the human spirit under the worst of circumstances illustrates itself vividly in this book. The reader is blissfully lost in love one moment and feels the writer's despair the next moment; this book toils with your emotions as untold history unfolds. One example of history that the world is not aware of, is the De-Nazification status that the German government gave to Nazis for the equivalent of a $500 charge. After the war, Nazis could legally declare by a government decree that they were not Nazis during the war. The only requirement for this service was to pay a fee. This memoir begins in 1939, in the small Polish village of Nowy Dwor, on the outskirts of Warsaw. It explores the hopes and dreams of a young girl coming of age into an expanding world of abundant possibilities. The events that come into her life alter her entire destiny as she grows up overnight into a world that is unbearable to endure. As the war ends, the author finds herself in the most complex of life’s predicaments. Although, as Jews they have lost their entire families to war, the author, her husband and child are placed as refugees, into the home of a nazi family. The ironies of life are explored in the most unusual and unlikely situation that is, amazingly, at the core of human depth. The book ends ten years later at the eve of the birth of a new Israel and the eve of a new life for the next generation. This eloquent, masterful and unusual memoir is written with simplicity and intelligence that will haunt and provoke the reader’s mind. The journey through history, through the perspective of a little girl and now, a woman of wisdom, will take you to the other side of war. This is the place where future generations can learn from their common lineage of war. This memoir encourages the reader to bear the inheritance of bigotry for the purpose of never having to relive it. As you read the pages in this book, you will see the unwritten message as a warning for what could happen again and a hope for the fruitful destiny of humanity. UPDATE: On September 11, 2001 Halina watched the news of the attack on America all day and all evening. She said "it ́s another Holocaust". She went to sleep and had a fatal stroke. We are interested in filming her life story. Please use www.xlibris.com to obtain contact information if you can assist in any manner. Thank you.

Book Tears Liquids and Porous Bodies in Literature Across the Ages

Download or read book Tears Liquids and Porous Bodies in Literature Across the Ages written by Norbert Lennartz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking in works from writers as diverse as William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, Charlotte Brontë, John Keats, James Joyce and D.H. Lawrence, this book spans approximately 300 years and unpacks how bodily liquidity, porosity and petrification recur as a pattern and underlie the chequered history of the body and genders in literature. Lennartz examines the precarious relationship between porosity and its opposite – closure, containment and stoniness – and explores literary history as a meandering narrative in which 'female' porosity and 'manly' stoniness clash, showing how different societies and epochs respond to and engage with bodily porosity. This book considers the ways that this relationship is constantly renegotiated and where effusive and 'feminine' genres, such as 'sloppy' letters and streams of consciousness, are pitted against stony and astringent forms of masculinity, like epitaphs, sonnets and the Bildungsroman.

Book Golden Memories and Silver Tears

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an inspirational nonfiction narrative of life during the great depression as viewed through the absorbing eyes and inquisitive mind of a child and his dog. It is a vibrant word portrait of the non-martyr life of a coal miner's son, his extended family, and the people of the anthracite coal region when the economy of our nation was at low ebb. It portrays, contrasts, and harmonizes the values, principles, life styles, and the multicultural ethnic customs and mores, of the Polish, Irish, Welch, English, and Jewish nationalities living in the northeastern region of Pennsylvania during the 1930s. It presents a society that was less complex than the one we currently live in; it exhibits personal support that was given warmly and with less formality and expense than we experience today. It is an interesting mixture of tragedy, joy, and humor emerged in a secure way of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A crucial period for the birth of the modern subject, France's 'long eighteenth century' (approximately 1650-1820) was an era marked by the formulation of a new aesthetic and ethical code revolving around the intensification of emotions and the hyperbolic use of weeping. Precisely because tears are not a simple biological fact but rather hang suspended between natural immediacy, on one side, and cultural artifice, on the other, the analysis of crying came to represent an exemplary testing ground for investigations into the enigmatic relations binding the realm of physiology to that of psychology. Thinking About Tears explores how the link between tears and sensibility in France's long eighteenth century helps shed light on the process through which the European emotional lexicon has been built: from viewing tears as governed by the sphere of 'passions' and 'feelings', thinkers began to view crying as first a matter of sensibility and then of sensiblerie (a pathological excess of sensibility), thereby presupposing an intimate connection with the category of 'sentiments'. For this reason, this volume examines not only or even primarily the actual emotion of crying, but also the attempt to think about and explain this feeling. Drawing on a wide range of early modern philosophical, medical, religious, and literary texts-including moral treatises on the passions, medical textbooks, letters, life-writings, novels, and stage-plays-Thinking About Tears reveals another side to a period that has too often been saddled with the cursory label of 'the age of reason'.
