Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

  • Pages : 384 pages

Download or read book Franciscan Wisdom written by Saint Francis and published by Blue Sparrow. This book was released on 2021-12 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the world need? Truth, beauty, goodness, and light. Fill your life with these and spread them wherever you go. Franciscan Wisdom is full of inspirational quotes by famous Franciscans exploring these themes. Most holy people live in plain sight. We cross paths with them every day. They will never be recognized officially as saints, and they prefer that. Most of them lived quiet, diligent lives, dedicated to serving other people. They became extraordinary people by repeatedly doing the ordinary things with great love. There's nothing more attractive than holiness. Francis of Assisi stands as a singular example of this piercing truth. This man and his life are universally intriguing and attractive. For eight hundred years, he has been loved and respected by men and women of all faiths, and those of no faith. His holiness crosses the bounds of religion and prejudice. Our lives become animated by faith when we discover once and for all that we too can walk that path. Holiness is possible. Not just for people in far off places and times, but you and me, here and now. And not only is holiness possible, but it is needed. Are you ready to be holy? It is an invitation to wholeness. It is a radical invitation to everything you yearn for that you don't know you need and want. An invitation to find your best, truest, highest, and most authentic self in Jesus.

Book excerpt: An introduction to St. Francis's life and his most profound teachings of faith St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most venerated Christian figures, and his profound teachings, deep love of nature, and commitment to simplicity have resonated with generations of followers. St. Francis of Assisi, the latest title in the Essential Wisdom Library, offers a simple and universal introduction to Francis’s life, his key teachings, and the spiritual practices that enriched his faith and the lives of those who follow his legacy. Beginning with a timeline of the saint’s life, St. Francis of Assisi includes the teachings that made Francis such a unique and powerful figure. His words apply to a diverse set of situations—from advice for people in positions of power, to teachings on gratitude, and the Rule of Life which governed every facet of life for Franciscans. The book concludes with explanations of some of his most powerful practices, which can offer wisdom and insight for our own lives. St. Francis emphasized the importance of living a simple, truthful life, making his spiritual practices just as impactful and relevant in the modern day as they were centuries ago. Book The Spirit of St Francis de Sales

Download or read book The Spirit of St Francis de Sales written by Jean Pierre Camus and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spirit of a Saint we may, perhaps, regard as the underlying characteristic which pervades all his thoughts, words, and acts. It is the note which sounds throughout the constant persevering harmony which makes the holiness of his life. Circumstances change. He grows from childhood to boyhood; from youth to manhood. His time of preparation is unnoticed by the world until the moment comes when he is called to a public activity which arrests attention. And essentially he remains the same. In private as in public, in intimate conversation as in writings or discourses, in the direction of individual consciences as in the conduct of matters of wide importance, there is a characteristic note which identifies him, and marks him off apart even from other heroes of sanctity. We owe to a keen and close observer a knowledge of the spirit of St. Francis de Sales for which we cannot be too grateful. Let it be granted that Mgr. Camus had a very prolific imagination; that he had an unconscious tendency to embroider facts; that he read a meaning into words which their speaker had no thought of imparting to them. When all such allowances have been made, we must still admit that he has given to us a picture of the Saint which we should be loath to lose; and that his description of what the Saint habitually thought and felt has made Saint Francis de Sales a close personal friend to many to whom otherwise he would have remained a mere chance acquaintance.

Book Gaudete Et Exsultate Rejoice and be Glad

Download or read book Gaudete Et Exsultate Rejoice and be Glad written by Pope Francis and published by Hijezglobal. This book was released on 2018-04-18 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhoration Rejoice and be Glad--Gaudete et Exsultate involves the call to holiness in the modern world, a topic that has been at the heart of the pontificate of Francis since the beginning. At its outset, Francis makes clear that this magisterial text does not seek "to be a treatise on holiness" but to "re-propose the call to holiness in a practical way for our own time, with all its risks, challenges and opportunities." The pontiff launches a plain, essential message, indicating that what counts, what is the essence of Christian life is to "seek and find God in all things. "It means letting Christ work in our actions. That His thoughts may be our thoughts, His feelings our feelings, His choices our choices. This is holiness, doing as Christ did is Christian holiness." And in this sense he hopes that his "pages will prove helpful by enabling the whole Church to devote herself anew to promoting the desire for holiness." This universal call to holiness is a key teaching from the Second Vatican Council.

Book Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation

Download or read book Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation written by Pope Paul VI. and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document's purpose is to spell out the Church's understanding of the nature of revelation--the process whereby God communicates with human beings. It touches upon questions about Scripture, tradition, and the teaching authority of the Church. The major concern of the document is to proclaim a Catholic understanding of the Bible as the "word of God." Key elements include: Trinitarian structure, roles of apostles and bishops, and biblical reading in a historical context.
