Book Washington Consensus The A Critical Evaluation Of The Principles And Implications For Economic Development

Download or read book Washington Consensus The A Critical Evaluation Of The Principles And Implications For Economic Development written by Imad A Moosa and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-07-02 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the book is to evaluate critically the ten principles of the Washington Consensus, which govern the conditionality provisions of the IMF and World Bank, and guide the so-called economic reform in developing countries. The book starts with an overview of the Consensus, followed by a chapter on IMF conditionality and how they are related. Since the Consensus is inherently neoliberal, a chapter is devoted to a critique of the free market doctrine and the concept of economic freedom as seen by free marketeers. The ten principles of the Washington Consensus (referred to as the 'ten commandments') are divided into four groups: fiscal reform, interest and exchange rate policies, liberalization of trade and foreign direct investment, and privatization and deregulation (including property rights). The book is written in the normative tradition of what ought to be, as opposed to the positive tradition of what is. While it may be tempting to describe the work as 'polemic', the underlying issues contain such a significant moral component that pretending to be neutral would be a betrayal of justice and morality. In essence, the arguments put forward in the book are intended to dismantle, discredit and debunk a set of principles that are effectively used to loot developing countries.

Book The Quick Guide to Classroom Management

Download or read book The Quick Guide to Classroom Management written by Sutthiya Lertyongphati and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the much anticipated Third Edition of the original award-winning volume. Fully indexed and updated, this edition covers the same topics as the First and Second editions but with new information for 2021 onwards. The book begins by examining key mistakes teachers make in the 'direct realm' - i.e. when interacting face-to-face with students. These first three chapters cover rapport-building, active-engagement and behavior management as it applies in a high-school setting. Following this, the book expansively covers a range of tips, techniques and tools to engage advanced, exam-level learners and to effectively enhance the teaching process via the use of technology. The book concludes with an often overlooked sphere of teaching: how to work effectively with colleagues and parents (very powerful when strategized correctly). Bonus material on the unique challenges of teaching overseas is provided in a plenary chapter. This edition of the book has been exhaustively proofread and indexed, and is of a much-higher quality than can be attributed to the First and Second editions.

Book The Little Lady with a Large Heart

Download or read book The Little Lady with a Large Heart written by Kofoworola Olaofe and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-06-23 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kofoworola Olaofe dissects herself, exposing the deep lacerations in her heart for the world to see. This moving story narrates a young womans contentment with life in the face of disability and her triumph over the debilitating attack of scoliosis. Excerpts: Scoliosis is a rare disease that belittles its victim not only physically but also psychologically. Pain percolated my spirit like a cancerous cell and continued to wreak havoc within me until it reached the depth of my soul. ... It installed itself in my body as a ruthless adversary and an unfailing companion. This monster tormented me day and night; it exposed me to humiliation and distraction until I almost went out of my mind. ... when a young woman says she doesnt care a hoot about peoples opinion of her appearance, it is either because she has gone out of her mind or that she is living in cloud cuckoo land. While a page brings smiles to your lips, the next wells up tears in your eyes. It is an intensely moving story, as humorous as it is touching. Kofoworola is a natural story teller Kehinde A. Ayoola PhD, Kofoworolas editor.

Book The Crisis of Global Capitalism

Download or read book The Crisis of Global Capitalism written by Adrian Pabst and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays outlines a new political economy. Twenty years after the demise of Soviet communism, the global recession into which free-market capitalism has plunged the world economy provides a unique opportunity to chart an alternative path. Both the left-wing adulation of centralized statism and the right-wing fetishization of market liberalism are part of a secular logic that is collapsing under the weight of its own inner contradictions. It is surely no coincidence that the crisis of global capitalism occurs at the same time as the crisis of secular modernity. Building on the tradition of Catholic social teaching since the groundbreaking encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891), Pope Benedict XVI's Caritas in Veritate is the most radical intervention in contemporary debates on the future of economics, politics, and society. Benedict outlines a Catholic "third way" that combines strict limits on state and market power with a civil economy centered on mutualist businesses, cooperatives, credit unions, and other reciprocal arrangements. His call for a civil economy also represents a radical "middle" position between an exclusively religious and a strictly secular perspective. Thus, Benedict's vision for an alternative political economy resonates with people of all faiths and none.
