Book excerpt: A biography of Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States: from childhood through the Senate to his election as vice president and, in 2020, as president. The road to the presidency of the United States was a long--and determined--one for Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. From Joe's childhood in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, his close-knit, devoted family gave him the foundation that would guide him through life. His family's unwavering support bolstered Joe when he was bullied for stuttering, attended law school, and became a public defender. They encouraged Joe when he pursued a career in politics and became the sixth youngest senator in US history. They consoled him when he suffered the devastating loss of his first wife and baby daughter and years later the death of his eldest son, Beau. And they cheered Joe when he served two vice presidential terms with President Barack Obama. After a lifetime marked by perseverance, integrity, and accomplishment, Joe Biden and running mate, Kamala Harris, won the 2020 presidential election. And standing by his side each and every step of the way was his wife Jill, his children, and his grandchildren -- his family.

This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A glorious, multi-racial, empathetic, all are equal, new era has begun in the United States with the swearing in of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., a European American Roman Catholic of Irish-British-French descent and son of Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden and Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. , by the U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Glover Roberts Jr. as the 46th President of the United States of America and Kamala Devi Harris, who has a tri-racial background: an Indian as she is the daughter of an Asian Indian American woman Shyamala Venkataraman Gopalan, a African Black woman as she is the daughter of a Jamaican African American father Donald Jasper Harris and a Jewish American as she is the wife of a Jewish American husband Douglas Craig Emhoff, by the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Maria Celina Baez Juan Sotomayor as the 49th Vice President of the United States of America. In his last farewell address, Trump said: "It''s been a great honor, the honor of a lifetime; the greatest people in the world; the greatest home in the world -- I call it a home. We''ve had an amazing four years: We''ve accomplished a lot. We love the American people. And again, it has been something very special. And I just want to say goodbye, but hopefully it''s not a long-term goodbye. We''ll see each other again. Thank you all very much. Thank you." In the Democratic Presidential nomination process, while the democratic contestant pool got reduced to Joe Biden and Bernard Dorothy Glassberg Elias Ben Yehuda Sanders following the results of the 14-state Super Tuesday March 3, 2020 Primary Elections, Joe Biden emerged as the only Democratic Presidential candidate following his massive victories in the 5-State Tuesday March 10, 2020 Primary Elections. The other Democratic Presidential candidates were Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg and Tulsi Gabbard. While the economy was strong during Donald Trump''s four year reign giving a massive boost to Donald Trump''s re-election prospects, over 400,000 Americans died in the Covid-19 epidemic dealing a deathblow to his winning again. The knee on the neck episodes which caused great heartburn among the Black African Americans and among the empathetic -minded European Americans made Trump lose to Biden by several millions of votes. Next, the U.S. Congress formally certified Joe Biden''s Electoral College victory in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election on Thursday, January 7, 2020 and the former VP Mike Pence declared that Joe Biden received 306 electoral votes as compared to Donald Trump''s 232. Before Pence''s announcement, the Capitol witnessed a forced entry into the building by thousands of Trump supporters demanding Pence to handover victory to Trump. However, the U.S. Congress and Mike Pence stood their ground despite dissenters'' outbursts and violent demands and later, many Democratic legislators and a few Republican Senators demanded Mike Pence and his cabinet to unseat Donald Trump invoking the 25th Amendment. U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives would move ahead with the second impeachment of Donald Trump if Mike Pence and the cabinet did not invoke the 25th amendment. Mike Pence, a man of principles, did not get enticed by the prospect of becoming the new president of the United States displacing his mentor Donald Trump. The U.S. House of Representatives then moved ahead and impeached Donald Trump, a sitting president, the second time on one article of impeachment: "incitement to insurrection" for his individual role in inciting a mob of supporters that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Once Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives sends the impeachment proposal to the Senate, the latter house will take up the impeachment proceedings. Whether the 45th President Trump will be acquitted by the U.S. Senate the second time too as it happened the last time or will be convict now, only time will tell!

Book Kamala Harris

Download or read book Kamala Harris written by Nikki Grimes and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the incredible story of a young daughter of immigrants who would grow up to be the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian American ever elected Vice President of the United States—and in a history-making turn of events, likely to become the Democrats’ 2024 Presidential nominee—in this moving picture book biography of Kamala Harris. When Kamala Harris was young, she often accompanied her parents to civil rights marches—so many, in fact, that when her mother asked a frustrated Kamala what she wanted, the young girl responded with: “Freedom!” As Kamala grew from a small girl in Oakland to a senator running for president, it was this long-fostered belief in freedom and justice for all people that shaped her into the inspiring figure she is today. From fighting for the use of a soccer field in middle school to fighting for the people of her home state in Congress, Senator Harris used her voice to speak up for what she believed in and for those who were otherwise unheard. And now this dedication has led her all the way to being elected Vice President of the United States and a likely 2024 Presidential candidate. Told in Nikki Grimes's stunning verse and featuring gorgeous illustrations by Laura Freeman, this picture book biography brings to life a story that shows all young people that the American dream can belong to all of us if we fight for one another.

Book Trump the Administrative Presidency and Federalism

Download or read book Trump the Administrative Presidency and Federalism written by Frank J. Thompson and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Trump has used the federal government to promote conservative policies The presidency of Donald Trump has been unique in many respects—most obviously his flamboyant personal style and disregard for conventional niceties and factual information. But one area hasn't received as much attention as it deserves: Trump's use of the “administrative presidency,” including executive orders and regulatory changes, to reverse the policies of his predecessor and advance positions that lack widespread support in Congress. This book analyzes the dynamics and unique qualities of Trump's administrative presidency in the important policy areas of health care, education, and climate change. In each of these spheres, the arrival of the Trump administration represented a hostile takeover in which White House policy goals departed sharply from the more “liberal” ideologies and objectives of key agencies, which had been embraced by the Obama administration. Three expert authors show how Trump has continued, and even expanded, the rise of executive branch power since the Reagan years. The authors intertwine this focus with an in-depth examination of how the Trump administration's hostile takeover has drastically changed key federal policies—and reshaped who gets what from government—in the areas of health care, education, and climate change. Readers interested in the institutions of American democracy and the nation's progress (or lack thereof) in dealing with pressing policy problems will find deep insights in this book. Of particular interest is the book's examination of how the Trump administration's actions have long-term implications for American democracy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Shares lessons learned on his way from the Jim Crow South to a top spot on Capitol Hill . . . [a] remarkably candid new memoir” —NPR From his humble beginnings in Sumter, South Carolina, to his prominence on the Washington, D.C., political scene as the third highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, US Congressman James E. Clyburn has led an extraordinary life. In Blessed Experiences, Clyburn tells in his own inspirational words how an African American boy from the Jim Crow-era South was able to beat the odds to achieve great success and become, as President Barack Obama describes him, “one of a handful of people who, when they speak, the entire Congress listens.” Born in 1940 to a civic-minded beautician and a fundamentalist minister, Clyburn began his ascent to leadership at the age of twelve, when he was elected president of his National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) youth chapter. He broke barriers through peaceful protests and steadfast beliefs in equality and justice. As a civil rights leader at South Carolina State College, as human affairs commissioner under John C. West and three subsequent governors, and as South Carolina’s first African American congressman since 1897, Clyburn has established a long and impressive record of public leadership and advocacy for human rights, education, historic preservation, and economic development. Includes a foreword from Emmy Award–winning actress and the congressman’s longtime friend Alfre Woodard “Blessed Experiences has captured not just the history of this tireless leader’s more-than-four decades in public service, but also a sense of the times.” —Warren Buffett

Book excerpt: A concise, brilliant and trenchant examination of Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his lifelong quest for the presidency Former vice president Joseph R. Biden Jr. has been called both the luckiest man and the unluckiest - fortunate to have sustained a fifty-year political career that reached the White House, but also marked by deep personal losses that he has suffered. Yet even as Biden's life has been shaped by drama, it has also been powered by a willingness, rare at the top ranks of politics, to confront his shortcomings, errors and reversals of fortune. His trials have forged in him a deep empathy for others in hardship - an essential quality as he addresses a nation at its most dire hour in decades. Blending up-close journalism and broader context, Evan Osnos illuminates Biden's life and captures the characters and meaning of an extraordinary presidential election. He draws on lengthy interviews with Biden and on revealing conversations with more than a hundred others, including President Barack Obama, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, and a range of progressive activists, advisers, opponents, and Biden family members. In this nuanced portrait, Biden emerges as flawed, yet resolute, and tempered by the flame of tragedy - a man who just may be uncannily suited for his moment in history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Washington's progressive champion explains how we can achieve a truly inclusive America that works for all of us In November 2016, Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, the first Indian American woman to serve in that role. Two years later, the "fast-rising Democratic star and determined critic of President Donald Trump," according to Politico's Playbook 2017 "Power List," won reelection with more votes than any other member of the House. Jayapal, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, proved her progressive bonafides when she introduced the most comprehensive Medicare-for-all bill to Congress in February. Behind the story of Jayapal's rise to political prominence lie over two decades of devoted advocacy on behalf of immigrants and progressive causes—and years of learning how to turn activism into public policy that serves all Americans. Use the Power You Have is Jayapal's account of the path from sixteen-year-old Indian immigrant to grassroots activist, state senator, and now progressive powerhouse in Washington, DC. Written with passion and insight, Use the Power You Have offers a wealth of ideas and inspiration for a new generation of engaged citizens interested in fighting back and making change, whether in Washington or in their own communities.
