Book Teachers Perceptions of Using Information and Communication Technologies with Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Boys Primary Mainstream Schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Teachers Perceptions of Using Information and Communication Technologies with Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Boys Primary Mainstream Schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Hani Ali Alamri and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study's objective was to obtain awareness of the present situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) concerning the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the education of students with intellectual disabilities through the insights of special education teachers working in mainstream boys' primary schools in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Insights were obtained from the teachers utilising an exploratory sequential mixed-methods research design comprising of semi-structured interviews (fifteen teachers) and a custom questionnaire (100 teachers). Methods of data analysis utilised by the study were thematic (interview data) and statistical (quantitative data). The study found that special education teachers were constrained by a lack of continuous training and the non-availability of suitable ICT resources, such as up-to-date resources and educational tools in Arabic. Moreover, ICT tools in the KSA are high-priced and funding provision lacks adequate planning and utilisation. The study's findings contribute to awareness of the current status of ICT use with students with intellectual disabilities in the KSA. Recommendations are offered to the Saudi Ministry of Education and to teachers working with students with intellectual disabilities. Suggestions for future research are also discussed.

Book INTED 2012 Publications

Download or read book INTED 2012 Publications written by Mohammed Ageel and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research project is a case study focussing on the use of a virtual learning environment (VLE) implemented to increase the use of information and communication technology (ICT) by university teachers in Jazan University, Saudi Arabia. The study aims to investigate the effect of the VLE as the vehicle for a training course in ICT designed to improve the university teachers' ability to use ICT in their teaching through continuing professional development (CPD) programmes. The raison d'etre of the study is that most university teachers do not use ICT in their teaching [1]. The training programme is delivered through a VLE course (based on Moodle), and so places the teachers in the position of learners and draws their attention to the benefits that can be gained by using ICT in their teaching. The study addresses the following question: can a VLE affect the use of ICT by teachers to support their teaching? Two questionnaires were used as data collection methods, a pretest and post-test adopted before and after the implementation of the VLE. The analysis of the results of the study reveals that there are differences between the pre-test and the post-test, for the benefit of the post-test. The mean of the university teachers' ICT usage in the pre-test is 1.94 and for the post-test is 2.59. The study recommends that the university policy makers should support the use of a VLE in the CPD provision and to create more ICT training programmes. Finally, the policy makers should consider some training programmes for the students to support and enhance their competence in using ICT for the purpose of learning. Book Investigating the Impact of Information Communication Technology on Self directed Professional Development of Teachers

Download or read book Investigating the Impact of Information Communication Technology on Self directed Professional Development of Teachers written by Emmanuel Mushayikwa and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this research was to investigate the perceived impact of ICT on Zimbabwean A-level science and mathematics teachers' self-directed professional development. The study was based on a questionnaire survey of 254 teachers throughout the country. Supplementary data came from 54 interviews. Some observations of teachers using ICT in teacher-centres, e-mail correspondence, and field reports also contributed to the database of the study. An analysis framework was developed through the use of grounded theory on the interview transcripts. The framework yielded 9 themes relating to the teachers' use of ICT for their professional development. These were: (1) perceived professional identity; (2) career development; (3) Managing the ICT environment; (4) theoretical and content knowledge; (5) practical knowledge and skills; (6) adaptation; (7) professional networking and; (8-9) perceived benefits to teachers and students. Chaos (complexity) theory was used to identify the major attractors (goals) for teachers' self-directed professional development using ICT. Two attractors were identified. These were personal professional development and classroom practice. However, an over-riding factor common to both attractors was identified as self-efficacy. The study identified the over-arching driver for self-directed professional development as the teacher's need to improve their self-efficacy. A two dimensional model of self-directed professional development was suggested. The systemic element of the model focused on the self-correcting impact of ICT use on professional development, whilst the personal element focused on self-efficacy as the central stratum for self-directed professional development. The study concluded by acknowledging the potent role that ICT is playing in the self-directed continuing professional development of teachers in Zimbabwe, and recommended, among other things, the inclusion of A-level teachers in the development of localised online materials resources for their subjects. This will help to enhance relevance of the materials to the Zimbabwean context
