Book PAINS AND GAINS OF INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Download or read book PAINS AND GAINS OF INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY IN TEACHER EDUCATION written by Thomas Goetz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-23 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book focuses on the pains and gains of international mobility in teacher education – its challenges and benefits. The aim is on the one hand to identify some of the challenges which help to explain the low percentage of internationally orientated teacher education students and suggest how to overcome them. On the other hand, major benefits of international mobility in teacher education are presented in the form of competences that can be acquired through studying and teaching abroad. The five chapters of this book refer to reports on practical experiences with international mobility in teacher education at different institutions. The authors outline problems, challenges and advantages, as well as present empirical studies on the international mobility of teachers. The target audience are persons organizing mobility programmes or educators working with international students and researchers in this field. This book aims to contribute to the promotion of international student teacher mobility and to give suggestions on how to implement and optimize such programmes.

Book Opportunities and Challenges in Teacher Recruitment and Retention

Download or read book Opportunities and Challenges in Teacher Recruitment and Retention written by Carol R. Rinke and published by IAP. This book was released on 2019-05-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opportunities and Challenges in Teacher Recruitment and Retention serves as a comprehensive resource for understanding teachers’ careers across the professional lifespan. Grounded in the notion that teachers’ voices are essential for understanding teachers’ lives, this edited volume contains chapters that privilege the voices of teachers above all. Book sections look closely at the particular issues that arise when recruiting an effective, committed, and diverse workforce, as well as the challenges that arise once teachers are immersed in the classroom setting. Promising directions are also included for particularly high-need areas such as early childhood teachers, Black male teachers, STEM teachers, and urban teachers. The book concludes with a call for self-care in teachers’ lives. Chapter contributions come from a variety of contexts across the United States and around the world. However, regardless of context or methodology, these chapters point to the importance of valuing and respecting teachers’ lives and work. Moreover, they demonstrate that teacher recruitment and retention is a complex and multifaceted issue that cannot be addressed through simplistic policy changes. Rather, attending to and appreciating the web of influences on teachers lives and careers is the only way to support their work and the impact they have on our next generation of students.

Book Teachers on the Move

    Book Details:

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2008

  • Pages : 59 pages

Download or read book Teachers on the Move written by Jane G. Coggshall and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report--based on an exploratory empirical study of state certification and licensure policies, 10 states' employment databases, a survey of teachers with interstate mobility experience, and focus groups of American Association for Employment in Education members and Troops-to-Teachers state directors--focuses on the certification and licensure aspect of the facilitators and barriers to teacher interstate mobility. It also includes an exploration of the unique mobility experiences of participants in the Troops-to-Teachers program. The analysis described in this report indicates that states have much common ground in their policies toward teacher licensure and reciprocity, yet differences remain. Motivated state directors of teacher education and certification must address these obstacles while maintaining high levels of quality. Continuing widespread teacher shortages in certain fields and the dim prospects that these shortages will disappear anytime soon provide a clear impetus for change. Based on the findings of this study, the need to build better infrastructure--including better data systems and communication channels--is clear. The challenges of the 21st century demand that the problems of interstate teacher mobility be addressed. Appended are: (1) Project Design; and (2) State Extant Teacher Data Tables. (Contains 2 tables, 3 figures and 1 footnote.).

Download or read book The Teacher Gap written by Rebecca Allen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teachers are the most important determinant of the quality of schools. We should be doing everything we can to help them get better. In recent years, however, a cocktail of box-ticking demands, ceaseless curriculum reform, disruptive reorganisations and an audit culture that requires teachers to document their every move, have left the profession deskilled and demoralised. Instead of rolling out the red carpet for teachers, we have been pulling it from under their feet. The result is predictable: there is now a cavernous gap between the quantity and quality of teachers we need, and the reality in our schools. In this book, Rebecca Allen and Sam Sims draw on the latest research from economics, psychology and education to explain where the gap came from and how we can close it again. Including interviews with current and former teachers, as well as end-of-chapter practical guidance for schools, The Teacher Gap sets out how we can better recruit, train and retain the next generation of teachers. At the heart of the book is a simple message: we need to give teachers a career worth having.

Book Authentic School Improvement for Authentic Leaders

Download or read book Authentic School Improvement for Authentic Leaders written by Victoria Carr and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-31 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authentic School Improvement for Authentic Leaders charts a full improvement journey of a school from a ‘Requires Improvement’ Ofsted rating, through a second, to a resounding ‘Good’. It reveals the impact that a school leader can have on the motivation and engagement of teachers, parents and pupils and how this translates not just to their overall happiness, but on academic standards and systemic, long-lasting school improvement whilst maintaining their own well-being. Bringing together a wide range of accessible and relatable school improvement practices, the chapters cover all aspects of school leadership, from operational systems to academic standards and staff morale to pupil numbers. Full of strategies, takeaways, observations and anecdotes, the book illustrates that being authentic and leading with integrity is possible for all and provides tangible results that may support positive Ofsted outcomes but are not driven by them. Including a Foreword by Ross Morrison McGill, this is essential reading for all headteachers and senior leaders in primary and secondary, mainstream and specialist, maintained and academy schools.

Book School Accountability and Teacher Mobility Working Paper 47

Download or read book School Accountability and Teacher Mobility Working Paper 47 written by Li Feng and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Struggling schools that come under increased accountability pressure face a number of challenges, changing instructional policies and practices to facilitate student improvement. But what effect does school accountability have on teachers' mobility decisions? This study is the first to exploit policy variation within the same state to examine the effects of school accountability on teacher job changes. Using student-level data from Florida State the authors measure the degree to which schools and teachers were "surprised" by the change in the school grading system that took hold in the summer of 2002--what they refer to as an "accountability shock"--by observing the mobility decisions of teachers in the years before and after the school grading change. Several key findings emerge: (1) over half of all schools in the state experience an accountability "shock" due to this grading change; (2) teachers are more likely to leave schools facing increased accountability pressure--and even more likely to leave schools that face the highest accountability pressure (schools shocked downward to a grade of "F")--and they are less likely to leave schools facing decreased accountability pressure; (3) While the quality differential between stayers and leavers does not change as a result of increased accountability pressure, schools facing increased pressure experience an increase in the quality of teachers who leave or stay and schools with no accountability shock experience no significant change to the quality of teachers that leave or stay. The results suggest if these schools were able to retain more of their high-quality teachers, perhaps through increased incentives to remain in the school, the performance gains associated with school accountability pressure could be greater than those already observed. (Contains 9 tables, 1 figure and 16 footnotes.).
