Book Data based Decision Making in Education

Download or read book Data based Decision Making in Education written by Kim Schildkamp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a context where schools are held more and more accountable for the education they provide, data-based decision making has become increasingly important. This book brings together scholars from several countries to examine data-based decision making. Data-based decision making in this book refers to making decisions based on a broad range of evidence, such as scores on students’ assessments, classroom observations etc. This book supports policy-makers, people working with schools, researchers and school leaders and teachers in the use of data, by bringing together the current research conducted on data use across multiple countries into a single volume. Some of these studies are ‘best practice’ studies, where effective data use has led to improvements in student learning. Others provide insight into challenges in both policy and practice environments. Each of them draws on research and literature in the field.

Book Leadership Styles and Teacher Involvement in the Decision Making Process

Download or read book Leadership Styles and Teacher Involvement in the Decision Making Process written by Elizabeth C. Kruth and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to identify leadership strategies employed by school principals that encourage teachers in collaborative decision making. This study provides an overview of literature on administrative styles and collaborative decision making among staff and recognizing that the expertise of teachers promotes shared governance and decision making as teacher input becomes valuable in creating a collegial environment. By completing an interview protocol with principals, several conclusions regarding principal leadership styles, teacher empowerment, and collaborative decision making surfaced as a result of the study. The findings in this study showed a significant correlation between leadership styles implemented by principals and teacher involvement in collaborative decision making. This study presents descriptive findings about collaborative decision making from the perspective of principals who encourage teacher participation in the decision making process regarding school wide issues. This research also noted that all principals studied used several strategies to involve teachers, in varying degrees, to implement shared governance structures and processes to enhance teacher empowerment. The research and results of this study supports the notion of the leadership style of a school administrator having a direct impact on the degree of teacher participation in decision making.

Book Teacher Decision Making in the Classroom

Download or read book Teacher Decision Making in the Classroom written by John Eggleston and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making decisions is one of the main activities of the teacher’s work. Considered or apparently unconsidered, these decisions significantly affect the lives of all who work in classrooms, both children and the teachers themselves. Originally published in 1979, the aim of this collection of papers was to achieve greater understanding of classroom decision-making and its consequences, to identify and map existing knowledge, and to indicate where it might be augmented. The contributors were researchers and teachers from schools, universities and colleges at the time, and they examine the process of teacher decision-making from sociological, psychological, economic and other perspectives. The book includes a detailed analysis of life in the classroom from a phenomenological perspective, explorations based on micro-economic techniques, and structural perspectives on the role of the teacher in the school. The concluding papers examine the possibilities for social change, given the constraints on the work of the teacher.

Book The Effect of Involvement in Decision Making on Teacher Retention

Download or read book The Effect of Involvement in Decision Making on Teacher Retention written by Donna V. Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retaining teachers continues to be an ongoing challenge for administrators. For a school, when teachers migrate from one school to another to teach or leave the profession all together, the school looses a teacher. A review of selected literature revealed the most frequently cited working conditions that impact teacher retention include: (a) administrative support, (b) compensation, (c) shared decision making, (d) beginning teacher support, (e) school climate, and (f) work load and resources. While research addresses decision making and teachers leaving the profession, few studies address teachers known as movers in a district and their involvement in decision making. This study addresses the impact of the working condition decision making on movers. In addition the study examines the perceptions of movers and administrators in regards to teacher involvement in decision making. A series of Fisher's exact tests revealed there were significant associations between movers and administrators perceptions of teacher involvement in decision making. The results from this study provide administrators and educational leaders with valuable and usable information in regards to decision making and teacher retention.
