Book Evaluation in Decision Making

Download or read book Evaluation in Decision Making written by Naftaly S. Glasman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the practice of decision making by school principals and about ways to improve this practice by capitalizing on evaluation dimensions. Much has been written on decision making but surprisingly little on decision making in the school principalship. Much has been also written on evaluation as well as on evaluation and decision making, but not much has been written on evaluation in decision making, especially decision making in the principalship. This book presents two messages. One is that decision making in the principalship can be studied and improved and not only talked about in abstract terms. The other message is that evaluation can contribute to the understanding of decision making in the principalship and to the improvement of its practice. In this book we call for the conception of an evaluation-minded principal, a principal who has a wide perspective on the nature of evaluation and its potential benefits, a principal who is also inclined to use evaluation perceptions and techniques as part of his/her decision-making process. This book was conceived in 1985 with the idea to combine thoughts about educational administration with thoughts about educational evaluation. Studies of decision making in the principalship had already been on their way. We decided to await the findings, and in the meantime we wrote a first conceptual version of evaluation in decision making. As the studies were completed we wrote a first empirical version of same.

Each chapter contributes to a more complete understanding of the complexities involved in the recent trend toward the centralization of curriculum decision-making. Book K 12 Administrator Development With Action Learning

Download or read book K 12 Administrator Development With Action Learning written by Craig G. Filipkowski and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this case study was to measure the impact on elements of schools' professional environment after a K-12 administrator participates in action learning as a form of professional development. The study also seeks to contribute more quantitative data to the field of action learning as called upon by researchers. The goal of this case study is to discern any impact felt by the certified teaching staff of schools that have a building administrator participate in eight sessions of action-learning over one summer. The guiding research question asks, what, if any, impact on a building level administrator's leadership practices result after their participation in an Action-Learning program? Data collection and analysis were structured to focus on the impact of the following collaborative environmental factors among certified teachers following their administrator's participation in the action learning program: Perceived School-Leader Support, Actual Participation in Decision Making, Satisfaction with Participation in Decision Making, and Formalization of Participation in Decision Making. These factors were measured with a pre-survey and post survey following administrator participation. Additional analyses of two more factors include Teacher's Orientation Toward Student Performance and Teacher Collaboration. With Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick's (2016) model for program evaluation in mind, this study focuses within the fourth level and measures leading indicators toward desired results. Findings of the Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank test indicate a significant, positive difference from pre-survey to post survey for Perceived School-Leader Support for Collaboration.

Book excerpt: Responding to the international problem identified by the US National Commission on Excellence in Educational Administration, that the field of educational leadership lacks a "good definition", this book reports a collaboration process that produced a practical theory of educative leadership. In offering a holistic theory which deals with the abstract world of ideas and reflection, this volume shows how these ideas are translated into management practice and what happens, or what is likely to happen in such a process. The theory integrates management and evaluation with the philosophical, strategic, political and inspirational services that educative leaders give. It is aimed at lecturers in education administration/management, headteachers, MEd lecturers and students, leadership and management lecturers and students.

Book School Leadership

Download or read book School Leadership written by Stuart Carl Smith and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognizing the importance of good leadership to the achievement of educational excellence, the second edition of this handbook synthesizes a large body of school leadership literature and explores the subject from three perspectives: the person, the structure, and the skills. Part I examines characteristics of today's educational leaders; effective leadership styles and qualities; administrator training, hiring, and induction methods; and the scarcity of female and black school leaders. Part II looks at the organizational supports underlying school leadership. This section examines the balance of authority between the central office and the school site, the team approach to management, the decision-making context, and the components of school climate. Part III highlights leadership abilities needed by today's school administrators. Besides knowing how to manage the school's instructional program and staff, administrators must be able to communicate in today's more open, sharing organization; build coalitions of community groups; make meetings more productive; and manage time, stress, and conflict more effectively. Concerned about integrating theory with practice, the book offers many practical suggestions for using the information presented. Accompanying each chapter are extensive bibliographical references that appear at the end of the volume. (MLH)
