Download or read book The Humane Gardener written by Nancy Lawson and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this eloquent plea for compassion and respect for all species, journalist and gardener Nancy Lawson describes why and how to welcome wildlife to our backyards. Through engaging anecdotes and inspired advice, profiles of home gardeners throughout the country, and interviews with scientists and horticulturalists, Lawson applies the broader lessons of ecology to our own outdoor spaces. Detailed chapters address planting for wildlife by choosing native species; providing habitats that shelter baby animals, as well as birds, bees, and butterflies; creating safe zones in the garden; cohabiting with creatures often regarded as pests; letting nature be your garden designer; and encouraging natural processes and evolution in the garden. The Humane Gardener fills a unique niche in describing simple principles for both attracting wildlife and peacefully resolving conflicts with all the creatures that share our world.

It’s impossible to convince them that I’m anything more than the broken girl they rescued all those years ago. Until I meet him. Ramsey’s grumpy demeanor and menacing scowl scare most of the world away. But not me. Not when I’ve seen his gentle hands soothe an abused colt or comfort a terrified mare. And when I finally get up the courage to strike out on my own, Ramsey’s there. Roommates felt like such a safe proposition until Ramsey’s lingering touches and wicked smile light a fire in me I don’t think will ever be extinguished. And he feels it, too… But just as my new life begins to take root, an evil from my past emerges from the shadows, casting a darkness on my newfound freedom. And this time, they won’t settle for pieces of me. They want everything…

Download or read book Poems of Francis Thompson written by Francis Thompson and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-07-04 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the research for her biography of Francis Thompson, Between Heaven and Charing Cross it became clear to Brigid Boardman that a new edition of his poetry was essential for a full recognition of the range and variety of his work. He remains best known for his great poem The Hound of Heaven but his work as a whole has never been properly presented. All previous editions include the many alterations and deletions that were made to Thompson’s work posthumously by Wilfrid Meynell for the edition of 1913. Meynell’s aim was to present the poetry in a strictly orthodox Catholic light in a period when fears about Modernism influenced the Church’s understanding of literature. These anxieties have not served the poetry well. Thompson’s aim was ‘to be the poet of the return to God’ and his work expresses the divine presence that he believed permeated all aspects of life. This edition finally restores an important English poet to the readers that he so deserves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of poems is for anyone who's experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly of life. Written by lesbian authors Nikkoli and Noah Mayfair, these poems touch on taboo subjects like gay bashing and rape, while others give hope to those struggling with depression. There are poems about love, sex, pain, and so much more within these pages. Using their own experiences and the experiences of those around them, Nikkoli and Noah have created poems that are raw with emotion. Though many of their poems are harsh and edgy, they still manage to retain a type of tenderness to them that not many poets can accomplish. Warning: Explicit Content
