Download or read book Google and the Law written by Aurelio Lopez-Tarruella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Google’s has proved to be one of the most successful business models in today’s knowledge economy. Its services and applications have become part of our day-to-day life. However, Google has repeatedly been accused of acting outside the law in the development of services such as Adwords, Googlebooks or YouTube. One of the main purposes of this book is to assess whether those accusations are well-founded. But more important than that, this book provides a deeper reflection: are current legal systems adapted to business models such as that of Google or are they conceived for an industrial economy? Do the various lawsuits involving Google show an evolution of the existing legal framework that might favour the flourishing of other knowledge-economy businesses? Or do they simply reflect that Google has gone too far? What lessons can other knowledge-based businesses learn from all the disputes in which Google has been or is involved? This book is valuable reading for legal practitioners and academics in the field of information technologies and intellectual property law, economists interested in knowledge-economy business models and sociologists interested in internet and social networks. Dr. Aurelio Lopez-Tarruella is Senior Lecturer in Private International Law at the University of Alicante, Spain.

Book The Hollywood Connection

Download or read book The Hollywood Connection written by Heather E. Yates and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hollywood Connection: The Influence of Fictional Media and Celebrity Politics on American Public Opinion is one of the first edited volumes offered in the political science discipline on the effects of fictional media and celebrity on public opinion, and synthesizes many niche areas of research into single text. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of acknowledging a shift in academic focus away from the lateral interactions between celebrities and politicians (and in some cases celebrities becoming politicians) toward research that engages the American audience, as consumers of media, as a critical political component. The volume offers a collection of diverse research on questions treating the effects of fictional media on consumer audiences and the larger implications for American politics. This research collection offers both qualitative and quantitative data sources and showcases a variety of methodological approaches (experimental design, public opinion survey analysis, content analysis, etc.), robust theoretical applications, and encompasses a variety of conduits, ranging from television sitcoms to horror films to the action drama 24, that make it both compelling and timely.

Book Digital Renaissance

Download or read book Digital Renaissance written by Joel Waldfogel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How digital technology is upending the traditional creative industries—and why that’s a good thing The digital revolution poses a mortal threat to the major creative industries—music, publishing, television, and the movies. Cheap, easy self-producing is eroding the position of the gatekeepers and guardians of culture. Does this revolution herald the collapse of culture, as some commentators claim? Far from it. In Digital Renaissance, Joel Waldfogel argues that digital technology is enabling a new golden age of popular culture—a digital renaissance. Analyzing decades of production and sales data, as well as bestseller and best-of lists, Waldfogel finds that the new digital model is just as powerful at generating high-quality, successful work as the old industry model, and in many cases more so.

Book Cyber Risk Intellectual Property Theft and Cyberwarfare

Download or read book Cyber Risk Intellectual Property Theft and Cyberwarfare written by Ruth Taplin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-12 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire to steal the intellectual property (IP) of others, be they creative individuals or company teams working in patent pools to create new innovations, remains the same. Political methods have become more sophisticated in terms of devaluing the output of creative humans by creating open- source access, which can be taken freely by all and sundry. What has changed is the new cyber- based technology that allows increased theft of IP. Likewise, warfare for geo- political imperatives is not new but sophisticated cyber- based methods that can actually carry out infrastructural damage through cyberspace are new and are accordingly termed cyberwarfare. How cyber strategies are used in IP theft and cyberwarfare in relation to new complex digital technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) is explored in relation to particular essential sectors in the economy: marine, smart energy power grids and insurance. Country- specifi c studies based on either being the recipient or perpetrator (or both) of cyberattacks provide analysis in relation to Japan, China and North Korea, Russia, Europe (the UK in particular), Iran and the USA.
