Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes an in-depth look at how education and psychology relate to each other, and at the current state of this relationship. Through comprehensive analysis of the ideological, historical, social and professional contexts of this interaction, the author develops the theme that, despite basic differences in aims, the fields are interconnected.
Download or read book Coding and Signal Processing for Magnetic Recording Systems written by Bane Vasic and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-11-09 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing new architectures and designs for the magnetic recording read channel have been pushed to the limits of modern integrated circuit manufacturing technology. This book reviews advanced coding and signal processing techniques and architectures for magnetic recording systems. Beginning with the basic principles, it examines read/write operations, data organization, head positioning, sensing, timing recovery, data detection, and error correction. It also provides an in-depth treatment of all recording channel subsystems inside a read channel and hard disk drive controller. The final section reviews new trends in coding, particularly emerging codes for recording channels.
Download or read book Computational Analysis of Polymer Processing written by J.R.A. Pearson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large, fast, digital computers have been widely used in engineering practice and their use has had a large impact in many fields. Polymer processing is no exception, and there is already a substantial amount of literature describing ways in which processes can be analysed, designed or controlled using the potentialities of modern computers. The emphasis given varies with the application, and most authors tend to quote the results of their calculations rather than describing in any detail the way the calculations were undertaken or the difficulties experienced in carrying them out. We aim to give here as useful and connected an account as we can of a wide class of applications, for the benefit of scientists and engineers who find themselves working on polymer processing problems and feel the need to undertake such calculations. The major application we have in mind is the simulation of the dynamics ofthe various physical phenomena which arise in a polymer process treated as a complex engineering system. This requires that the system be reasonably well represented by a limited number of relatively simple subprocesses whose connections can be clearly identified, that the domi nant physical effects relevant to each subprocess can be well defined in a suitable mathematical form and that the sets of equations and boundary conditions developed to describe the whole system can be successfully discretised and solved numerically.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed with the support of the Kent Healthy Schools Programme to encourage primary schools to promote healthy eating, this resource takes a whole-school, holistic approach towards children′s eating and relates to the PSHE Curriculum and the Healthy Schools Programme. There is a good blend of easily accessible information on healthy eating supported by individual case studies. The three sections cover: " a summary of the range of children′s eating issues " strategies for promoting healthy eating and preventing, recognising and dealing with eating problems " examples of lesson plans related to the physical, emotional and social aspects of children′s eating. Dr Sally Robinson is principal lecturer in the Department of Health and Social Welfare Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Download or read book Narratives of British Socialism written by S. Ingle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-10-23 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can the study of narratives bring to our understanding of political ideas that other forms of analysis cannot? In Narratives of British Socialism , Stephen Ingle shows how imaginative literature can be used to give definition to political thought. The origins, development and eventual decline of British socialism are analyzed in the writings of Morris, Shaw, Wells, Huxley, Koestler, Orwell and others. Ingle concludes that narratives can give us an experiential understanding of political ideas.

Download or read book Pensions Challenges and Reforms written by Einar Overbye and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the developed world, public and private pension schemes face major challenges that are creating irresistible pressures for reform. Major structural changes in Latin America and in Central and Eastern Europe have led to particularly fierce pressure. Two member states of the European Union - Italy and Sweden - have introduced radical reform of their public pensions systems; controversial pension reforms have been proposed in France and Germany; and the British government has been widely criticized over its pension reforms and its 2002 white paper. This exceptional volume examines the challenges faced by pension schemes in the advanced economies and the reforms that have been introduced to tackle these challenges. A team of international contributors provides an up-to-date, invaluable analysis of different aspects of pension problems, prospects and reforms. The book incorporates cross-national chapters as well as a focus on individual countries including Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Sweden, the UK and the USA.
