Book The End of the World is Just the Beginning

Download or read book The End of the World is Just the Beginning written by Peter Zeihan and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Bestseller! 2019 was the last great year for the world economy. For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going. Globe-spanning supply chains are only possible with the protection of the U.S. Navy. The American dollar underpins internationalized energy and financial markets. Complex, innovative industries were created to satisfy American consumers. American security policy forced warring nations to lay down their arms. Billions of people have been fed and educated as the American-led trade system spread across the globe. All of this was artificial. All this was temporary. All this is ending. In The End of the World is Just the Beginning, author and geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan maps out the next world: a world where countries or regions will have no choice but to make their own goods, grow their own food, secure their own energy, fight their own battles, and do it all with populations that are both shrinking and aging. The list of countries that make it all work is smaller than you think. Which means everything about our interconnected world - from how we manufacture products, to how we grow food, to how we keep the lights on, to how we shuttle stuff about, to how we pay for it all - is about to change. A world ending. A world beginning. Zeihan brings readers along for an illuminating (and a bit terrifying) ride packed with foresight, wit, and his trademark irreverence.

Book excerpt: A substantial percentage of conservative Christians already believe that the signs of the Apocalypse are everywhere, and almost daily witness what they believe to be fulfillment of Biblical end-times prophecies. Yet, significant numbers of quite sincere, earnest Bible believers have for the last 2,000 years looked at the conditions in the world around them and, based on their interpretation of scripture, concluded that the jig was up. And they’ve all been wrong. Every single time. But what if, just maybe, ours is the final generation? Can we know for certain that we have arrived at the End of Days?God’s ClockThere is a clock in the heavens. God placed knowledge of this clock into the minds of men in the earliest days of civilization. It was practically universal across the millennia among all peoples and nations. In modern times, we have forgotten this knowledge. We have become too busy and distracted for such things. Now, God is re-awakening this ancient wisdom in our hearts and minds in a profound way, at this specific time in history for a very significant reason, the ultimate reason.Time’s UpAs S.K. Bain adroitly explains, God has very plainly told us that NOW is the time, and told us in such an unmistakable and convincing way that it will not only confirm the faithful’s existing beliefs about where we are on God’s timeline, but will also attract the interest and attention of unbelievers, as well. If Bain is correct, it is a message of hope, a message intended for us, at this precise moment in human history, designed so that all may see, all may know, all may understand and believe. This world must pass so that God’s new world may emerge. The last grain of sand is about to pass through the neck of the hour glass, and God is telling us what time it is, that time has run out.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of us live out flat, marginalized and ineffectual Christian lives. We fall achingly short of intimately connecting with and deeply interjecting the truths of scripture into the everyday realities of our lives, as we live them out amidst the incessant demands and tangled complexities of the 21st century. We therefore miss a sweeping and torrential infusion of what God intends for our lives. Because we miss it, we are left abysmally poorer when that need not be the case. An Intimate Collision arises out of the belief that people sense there to be a far greater reality to our portrayal of God and the Christian life than that which we have grasped.

Book excerpt: Orca publishes short stories, flash fiction, and nonfiction. We are a literary journal and we believe in the literary style of writing. We are open to almost any topic, as long as it's written in a literary style. We are committed to diversity of identities, origins, and perspectives on our pages. Many of our contributors are from other countries and cultures. But the main criterion by which we judge submissions is the quality of the writing. We seek work that is high concept: imaginative, thoughtful, even speculative, and open to possibilities. We look for deep, diverse characters, and narratives that blend genres, or connect seemingly disparate ideas. We currently pay $50 for published short stories and $25 for flash fiction. We are also committed to the intentions of our contributors. Although we often work with writers to polish their stories, we also respect their original intent, and as much as possible retain the artist's individual and local language, spelling, style, and vernacular.Orca publishes four issues per year. April and October feature literary stories, and January and July are our literary-speculative issues. Literary stories with a speculative aspect are sometimes included in the literary issues.Although we are relatively new, our fiction has already been honored with a reprint of Kristyn Dunnion's "Daughter of Cups" in the anthology Best Canadian Stories 2020. Three of our flash fiction contributors have been selected for the 2021 edition of Best Small Fictions: "July First and Last," by Stephen Ground; "Life Underground" by Avra Margariti; and "A Fall Play: In One Act and Three Scenes" by David Luntz. "A Terrible Thing Has Happened" by Natascha Graham received an honorable mention in the Rotary Club of Stratford's (Canada) 2021 Short Story Contest.Fiction published in Orca may also be nominated for anthologies such as Best American Short Stories, Best Small Fictions, the Pushcart Prize, and others.
