Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tales of Old Maryland: History and Romance on the Eastern Shore of Maryland It is not to be supposed that the sketches contained in this little volume cover all those places and persons of the Eastern Shore that might be justly entitled to an appearance here. I have merely collected those which in my humble opinion were the most interesting and were more available. I am one of those who think the Eastern Shore of Maryland the "Garden Spot" of the World - have been taught that from the cradle up. Many of the tales told here are some we have heard since childhood, and as this is an inquiring age, in recent years I have looked into them a little to ascertain just how much was fiction and how much was truth. Book Maryland s Colonial Eastern Shore

Download or read book Maryland s Colonial Eastern Shore written by Swepson Earle and published by . This book was released on 2016-07-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Maryland's Colonial Eastern Shore: Historical Sketches of Counties and of Some Notable Structures, Illustrated The principal reasons for my determination to publish this book are as follows: First: There seems to be a demand for a publication of this character. Because the average Marylander is unfamiliar with the geography and history of this part of his State. This applies to residents of the tidewater as well as of the interior sections of Maryland. While residents of each county are more or less familiar with the geography and history of their particular county. Their knowledge of other counties is often very limited. And it is hoped that this book will be of use and permanent value to those Who are interested in these subjects. Book House at Royal Oak

Download or read book House at Royal Oak written by Carol Eron Rizzoli and published by Black Dog & Leventhal. This book was released on 2010-04-28 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unforgettable story about a couple who follow their dream of converting a run-down country house into a working bed and breakfast, and what they learn along the way from an old home, a close-knit community, and a parade of extraordinary guests. One spring, Carol Eron Rizzoli and her husband Hugo bought a dilapidated farmhouse in the tiny village of Royal Oak, Maryland, on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay. They spent two years transforming it into a bed and breakfast, which took them twice as long and cost three times as much as they had originally estimated (on the back of a napkin). As they struggled to restore the house and open the B&B, Carol and Hugo were also slowly acquainting themselves with the rural community of Royal Oak, rich in custom and culinary traditions, and populated by neighbors with particular views on politics, hunting, wildlife, and of course, newcomers from the big city. Written with honesty and humor, The House at Royal Oak is a journey to the heart of what it means to start over and chase a dream. Part inspirational account of reinventing yourself at mid-life, part love story about learning what matters most in a relationship, it is above all a book about home: what it means, and the unexpected places we find it.
