Book Tales of a Wishful Thinker

Download or read book Tales of a Wishful Thinker written by Maria Johnsen and published by Maria Johnsen. This book was released on 2024-02-08 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tales of a Wishful Thinker is a collection of my short stories. Some are funny, some are sad, and some have happy endings. I've crafted each story with the idea that they could be turned into films someday. Each story focuses on themes like love, hope, loneliness, family, patience, hard work, friendship, and perseverance. Some could be made into drama films, while others could be adapted into cartoons or animations. Throughout my life, I've always followed my passion for filmmaking and writing. Even though I've made money from my work, I've chosen to invest it back into my film projects that bring me joy and support my actors and crew members. These stories reflect my own experiences and are transformed into imaginative tales that mirror my journey. I hope you enjoy reading them and can relate to them.

Book excerpt: Winner of the Story Circle Network’s The Gilda (Radner) Award and the Next Generation Indie Book Award. For fans of Eat, Pray, Love and Wild comes a laughter-through-tears memoir. With heartfelt emotion and spirit, Sallie Weissinger, a late-in-life widow, recounts the highs and lows of navigating the tricky online dating world of the 2000s. Interwoven throughout her adventures in search of a new relationship are stories from her childhood as a military brat, her southern heritage, her various marriages, and the volunteer work in Central and South America that helped her move forward through it all. Weissinger keeps her sense of humor as she meets men who lie, men who try to extort money, and men with unsavory pasts. When she experiences even more loss, her search for a partner becomes less important, but—with the help of friends and dogs—she perseveres and, ultimately, develops her own approach to meeting “HIM.” Blending the deeply serious and the lighthearted, Yes, Again shows us that good things happen when we open up our minds and hearts.

The Swann Sisters Chronicles, Book 1 As her 25th birthday approaches, mild-mannered Philomena Swann lives in terror of her annual birthday wish. Sure, she has a disinterested fiance and a misogynistic boss, but from experience she knows wishing both away could result in disaster. Why? Because she and her sisters are one-eighth fairy. She blurts out her wish...and suddenly finds she can't stop. To her friends. Her boss. Her Nana. And her best friend, hot and hunky co-worker, Josh. Before she can do any more damage, she begs for the spell to be reversed. And it is-with a vengeance. Now everyone else is compelled to tell her the truth. Including Josh. But the fairy godmother's not done. One more wish could change Phil's world forever-if it doesn't ruin her life first. Warning: Hot book-erotic sex.

Book Wishful Drinking

Download or read book Wishful Drinking written by Carrie Fisher and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Wishful Drinking is a touching and incisive account of bipolarity, addiction and motherhood.' Independent ‘No motive is pure. No one is good or bad – but a hearty mix of both. And sometimes life actually gives to you by taking away.' Carrie Fisher in Wishful Drinking In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher told the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabres." Alas, aside from a demanding career and her role as a single mother (not to mention the hyperspace hairdo), Carrie also spends her free time battling addiction and weathering the wild ride of manic depression. It's an incredible tale: from having Elizabeth Taylor as a stepmother, to marrying (and divorcing) Paul Simon, and from having the father of her daughter leave her for a man, to ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed. Carrie Fisher's star-studded career included roles in numerous films such as The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally. She was the author of four bestselling novels, Surrender in the Pink, Delusions of Grandma, The Best Awful and Postcards from the Edge, which was made into a hit film starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep. Carrie's experience with addiction and mental illness – and her willingness to talk honestly about them – made her a sought-after speaker and respected advocate. She was truly one of the most magical people to walk among us. Further praise for Carrie Fisher:- [Shockaholic] is the finest, funniest chronicler of the maddest celebrity mores.' Sunday Times 'Fisher has a talent for lacerating insight that masquerades as carefree self-deprecation' Los Angeles Times 'She is one of the rare inhabitants of La-La Land who can actually write' New York Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of The Long Emergency explains why technology can’t solve all our problems, and how excessive optimism can endanger our future. The Long Emergency quickly became a grassroots hit, offering a shocking vision of our post-oil future and capturing the attention of environmentalists and business leaders alike. As discussion about our dependence on fossil fuels and our dysfunctional financial and government institutions continues, the author returns with Too Much Magic—evaluating what has changed and what has not, and what direction we need to take in this post-financial-crisis world. “Too much magic” is what James Howard Kunstler sees in the bright utopian visions of the future dreamed up by optimistic souls who believe technology will solve all our problems. Their visions remind him of the flying cars and robot maids that were the dominant images of the future in the 1950s. Kunstler’s image of the future is much more sober. With vision, clarity of thought, and a pragmatic worldview, Kunstler argues that the time for magical thinking and hoping for miracles is over—and the time to begin preparing for the long emergency has begun. “A sharp critic of energy-sucking, big-box landscapes.” —Winnipeg Free Press

Book excerpt: Brian Cuban was living a lie. With a famous last name and a successful career as a lawyer, Brian was able to hide his clinical depression and alcohol and cocaine addictions—for a while. Today, as an inspirational speaker in long-term recovery, Brian looks back on his journey with honesty, compassion, and even humor as he reflects both on what he has learned about himself and his career choice and how the legal profession enables addiction. His demons, which date to his childhood, controlled him through failed marriages and stays in a psychiatric facility, until they brought him to the brink of suicide. That was his wake-up call. This is his story. Brian also takes an in-depth look at why there is such a high percentage of problematic alcohol use and other mental health issues in the legal profession. What types of therapies work? Are 12-step programs the only answer? Brian also includes interviews with experts on the subject as well as others in the profession who are now in recovery. The Addicted Lawyer is both a serious study of addiction and a compelling story of redemption.
