Book Tales from North Bay and Beyond

Download or read book Tales from North Bay and Beyond written by Joseph M. Kockelmans and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his second memoir, Tales from North Bay & Beyond: More Bear Spring Camps Stories, author Joseph M. Kockelmans is back with a second installment of amusing stories from his decades of vacationing at a fishing camp in central Maine. In book two, Mr. Kockelmans invites his readers to enjoy twenty-one new short stories about fishing, nature, wildlife, and socializing with friends and family, ranging from when he was a child to just last year. This book is arranged in a slightly different format than the first. Sixteen stories are put together in four categories, called basketfuls, while five slightly longer stories act as anchors between them. In this book, Mr. Kockelmans describes events like the time where he dared his best friend to jump out of a moving boat, he joined friends to look for loons and another time for eagles, when he caught an odd-looking fish, and the time his Aunt Marilyn invited him to her cabin for an overnight stay. For him the most touching story, however, is his personal tribute to campers who are no longer with us.

Book It Should Be Easy to Fix

Download or read book It Should Be Easy to Fix written by Bonnie Robichaud and published by Between the Lines. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1977, Bonnie Robichaud accepted a job at the Department of Defence military base in North Bay, Ontario. After a string of dead-end jobs, with five young children at home, Robichaud was ecstatic to have found a unionized job with steady pay, benefits, and vacation time. After her supervisor began to sexually harass and intimidate her, her story could have followed the same course as countless women before her: endure, stay silent, and eventually quit. Instead, Robichaud filed a complaint after her probation period was up. When a high-ranking officer said she was the only one who had ever complained, Robichaud said, “Good. Then it should be easy to fix.” This timely and revelatory memoir follows her gruelling eleven-year fight for justice, which was won in the Supreme Court of Canada. The unanimous decision set a historic legal precedent that employers are responsible for maintaining a respectful and harassment-free workplace. Robichaud’s story is a landmark piece of Canadian labour history—one that is more relevant today than ever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an anthropologist? There is a certain mystery about the profession, since anthropologists often travel to out-of-the-way parts of the world that might be considered exotic, dangerous, or otherwise mysterious to most people. Of course, there are many misconceptions, such as the view of the anthropologist in khaki-coloured shorts, wearing a pith hat and accompanied by a string of baggage carriers trailing behind him as depicted in a Far Side cartoon. This book describes my own life in anthropology carried on over five decades. My career was not necessarily typical in terms of specific details, but it does involve extensive field research as well as various other activities, such as appearing as an expert witness in a Supreme Court land claims case, which were unique in certain ways.
