Book Taking the Stand We Have More to Say

Download or read book Taking the Stand We Have More to Say written by Bernhard Rammerstorfer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nine Holocaust survivors and victims of Nazi tyranny have "taken the stand" to give their testimony as a legacy for future generations. They are from five different countries and were persecuted for reasons of ethnicity, politics/ideology, or religion. All in all, they were interned in fifty-one camps or institutions. The catalog of questions, unique in the world, consists of 100 questions from 61 schools and universities in 30 countries on 6 continents, as well as from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. What is truly innovative about this book is that all the Holocaust survivors were asked the same questions. As a result, a point-for-point comparison of their answers is possible. Those whose voices are heard range from an average housewife and an unskilled laborer to a fashion designer, from those who have been relatively silent to active Holocaust teachers and to survivors who have already been widely featured in the media and whose life stories have even been the subject of Oscar-winning films. Two of them have already passed their 100th birthdays.

Who in your life would you trust to keep you alive? And who do you know who would risk their own life for yours? Debbie and Lauren were best friends until Lauren became ultra-Orthodox, changed her name and moved to Jerusalem. More than twenty years later, husbands in tow, their Florida reunion descends with painful but hilarious inevitability into an argument about parenthood, marriage, friendship and faith. If you really want to ensure a Jewish future, you should be like me. Good, old-fashioned afraid. Nathan Englander's serious comedy, adapted for the stage from his Pulitzer-finalist short story, received its European premiere at the Marylebone Theatre, London, in October 2024.

Book The Happiest Man on Earth

Download or read book The Happiest Man on Earth written by Eddie Jaku and published by Pan Books. This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holocaust survivor Eddie Jaku made a vow to smile every day and believed he was the 'happiest man on earth'. In his inspirational memoir, he paid tribute to those who were lost by telling his story and sharing his wisdom. 'Eddie looked evil in the eye and met it with joy and kindness . . . [his] philosophy is life-affirming' - Daily Express Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you. Eddie Jaku always considered himself a German first, a Jew second. He was proud of his country. But all of that changed in November 1938, when he was beaten, arrested and taken to a concentration camp. Over the next seven years, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors every day, first in Buchenwald, then in Auschwitz, then on a Nazi death march. He lost family, friends, his country. The Happiest Man on Earth is a powerful, heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful memoir of how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. 'Australia's answer to Captain Tom . . . a memoir that extols the power of hope, love and mutual support' - The Times

Book Denying the Holocaust

  • ISBN : 1476727481
  • Pages : 359 pages

Download or read book Denying the Holocaust written by Deborah E. Lipstadt and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-12-18 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The denial of the Holocaust has no more credibility than the assertion that the earth is flat. Yet there are those who insist that the death of six million Jews in Nazi concentration camps is nothing but a hoax perpetrated by a powerful Zionist conspiracy. Sixty years ago, such notions were the province of pseudohistorians who argued that Hitler never meant to kill the Jews, and that only a few hundred thousand died in the camps from disease; they also argued that the Allied bombings of Dresden and other cities were worse than any Nazi offense, and that the Germans were the “true victims” of World War II. For years, those who made such claims were dismissed as harmless cranks operating on the lunatic fringe. But as time goes on, they have begun to gain a hearing in respectable arenas, and now, in the first full-scale history of Holocaust denial, Deborah Lipstadt shows how—despite tens of thousands of living witnesses and vast amounts of documentary evidence—this irrational idea not only has continued to gain adherents but has become an international movement, with organized chapters, “independent” research centers, and official publications that promote a “revisionist” view of recent history. Lipstadt shows how Holocaust denial thrives in the current atmosphere of value-relativism, and argues that this chilling attack on the factual record not only threatens Jews but undermines the very tenets of objective scholarship that support our faith in historical knowledge. Thus the movement has an unsuspected power to dramatically alter the way that truth and meaning are transmitted from one generation to another.

Book Unbroken Will

Download or read book Unbroken Will written by Bernhard Rammerstorfer and published by Rammerstorfer. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Engleitner and Adolf Hitler grew up in the same province in Austria and shared the same cultural background and education system, the convictions and attitudes they developed were diametrically opposed. Whereas Hitler caused untold suffering to millions as a merciless mass murderer, Engleitner devoted his life to peace, refusing to buckle even in the face of death. Why would a man facing imprisonment and unspeakable suffering in a Nazi concentration camp, chose not to sign a document giving him his freedom? Instead he submitted to Nazi persecution, enduring imprisonment in Buchenwald, Niederhagen, and Ravensbruck concentration camps, rather than renouncing his faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
