Book Take Another Look at Revelation

Download or read book Take Another Look at Revelation written by Bert De Bruijn and published by Xlibris. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hindrances to Good Soldiering ~ The Breaking of the Scroll's Seals Scene 4 ? Four Horsemen Rev 6:1-8 All eyes are now focussed on the Lamb. No one but the Lamb can open the scroll by breaking its seals. It is up to Him to reveal to us His Majesty's heart and mind, contained in the scroll. The Lamb breaks open the first seal, and a command like thunder rumbles through the air: ?Come!? That was the voice of one of the living creatures. Our eyes are diverted to the side, and we look upon the world. From the left a white horse appears, its rider a warrior, bow in hand. He is galloping ahead like a general leading his army to victory. We see the Lamb break the second seal, accompanied by the second living creature's command: ?Come!? On earth, a red horse appears. Its rider holds a huge sword. He moves about more slowly. Where he passes through, people come to blows with one another. People are being murdered. The third seal is broken, and the voice of the third living creature calls, ?Come!? a black horse rides into the scene. Its rider holds the weigh-scales of a grain trader. a voice from the direction of the 4 living creatures is calling out grain prices. The prices of wheat and barley are staggering. However, there does not seem to be a shortage of oil and wine. The Lamb breaks the fourth seal. The fourth living creature calls, ?Come!? Into our vision comes a pale green horse. The rider wears a nametag: ?Death.' He gives us the feeling that hell and the grave are all around him. The colour reminds us of pestilence. _________________________________________________________ Rev 6:1-8 1. and I saw, when the Lamb opened one of the 7 seals, and I heard one of the 4 living creatures saying as with a sound of thunder, ?Come!? 2. and I saw, and LOOK!: a white horse and the one sitting on it having a bow. [1] and a crown (victor's laurel wreath) was given to him, [2] and he went forth 1] overcoming & 2] in order that he might overcome. 3. and when He opened the second seal, I heard == 8. and I saw, and LOOK!: a pale green horse, and the one sitting on it, 1] his name, ?death,? & 2] hades followed with him, and to them was given authority over 1/4 part of the earth, to kill 1] with sword & 2] with famine & 3] with death & 4] by the wild beasts of the earth. _________________________________________________________ When we consider the purpose of the scroll's seals, we must first ask, ?What is their technical function? They represent the impediments to the Church's discovering God's rescue plan for the world's people (contained in the scroll). In spiritual terms, what is it that keeps the Church from clearly seeing into God's purposes? Is it not misunderstandings and misconceptions about God's relationship with His creation? As the seals are opened let us look then for the misunderstandings that need to be removed from our thinking, about how God is working out His plans for the world. The breaking of the first 4 seals is cast in images from visions of the prophets Zechariah and Ezekiel. In Zechariah's first vision (Zech 1:8-11), at a time before God takes vengeance for the destruction of Jerusalem, horses in three different colours have patrolled the earth. The

Download or read book Revelations written by Elaine Pagels and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.

Book Four Views on the Book of Revelation

Download or read book Four Views on the Book of Revelation written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2010-08-03 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the books of the Bible, few are as fascinating or as intimidating as Revelation. Four grim horsemen, the Antichrist, the ten-horned beast, the ultimate battle at Armageddon, the "mark of the beast." It's no wonder that these images have griped the imagination of so many--and have been variously interpreted as symbolizing everything from Hitler and Gorbachev to credit cards and the Internet. Is the book of Revelation a blueprint for the future? A book of powerful symbolic imagery with warnings for the church? Is it essentially an imaginative depiction of historical events in the first century? Four Views on the Book of Revelation explores four interpretations of the book of the Apocalypse: Preterist – a historical interpretation, arguing that most of John’s prophecies occurred in the first century, soon after his writing of them. Idealist – a spiritual or symbolic interpretation, arguing that the events in Revelation are not literal, and that apocalyptic literature requires a different approach than the Gospels or Epistles. Classical dispensationalism – a literal interpretation based on a reading of Revelation that pays close attention to the rules of grammar and the separate eras of covenantal history. Progressive dispensationalism – a modification of classical that has its root in the understanding of Christ's reign beginning immediately after the resurrection. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book excerpt: If you are in the process of re-examining old childhood beliefs and have realized there has to be a "more excellent way", this book is for you. With this in mind, I invite you to "Take Another Look" at some of the most important tenants of fundamental Judeo-Christian dogma. We will explore these basic ideas from the cultural context in which they were experienced and written, as well as the influences of the translators. This will take us from a fear-based message to the Gospel, or good news, with a love-based premise. In this day, there are several versions of the Bible. I suggest choosing the version which best suits your understanding of language. II Timothy 2:15 says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The study presented in this book is based on the "Thompson Chain-Reference Bible", "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible", the guidance of the inner teacher - the Holy Spirit, and spiritual common sense. The result has challenged much of the second-handed information that has been passed down through Christian patriarchy. This scripture also mentions, "rightly dividing the word of truth". To do this, we need to discern which scriptures are inspired by God and which scriptures contain man's perceptions and hidden political and cultural agenda's. I ask that you listen to your own inner Christ intelligence which is able to lead you into all truth, rather than listening to the feeble attempts of men's voices on the paths that seem right, who are only plunging us into the depths of unanswered questions, ever learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Book Another Look at Revelation

Download or read book Another Look at Revelation written by John Tipton and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation is the only book in the Bible that promises a blessing to those who "read and hear the words of this prophecy", yet our nineteenth century interpretation has caused it to be scarcely mentioned in pulpits today. When it is mentioned, it is only referred to as a list of horrors that must be avoided at all cost by sneaking out the back door of the "secret any moment rapture". I don't believe that this is the blessing that God had in mind. This book is an unfolding of the keys to understanding and meaning of the signs and symbols that make up the Revelation that God has led me into through the last four decades. Who would have thought that the answer to the signs and symbols in the book of Revelation are found in the Bible itself.Because of the progressive nature of truth, I believe that God is finally, in this day, unlocking the truth that has the power to change our vision and life forever. This book is by no means the final word on Revelation, but I pray that it will at least point us in the right direction, and be the catalyst for much more illumination of the plan and purpose of God for his people. I believe that any true seeker of the truth will hear the truth bell ring loud and clear as they read and hear the words of this book.

Book How Jesus Became God

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author and Bible expert Bart Ehrman reveals how Jesus’s divinity became dogma in the first few centuries of the early church. The claim at the heart of the Christian faith is that Jesus of Nazareth was, and is, God. But this is not what the original disciples believed during Jesus’s lifetime—and it is not what Jesus claimed about himself. How Jesus Became God tells the story of an idea that shaped Christianity, and of the evolution of a belief that looked very different in the fourth century than it did in the first. A master explainer of Christian history, texts, and traditions, Ehrman reveals how an apocalyptic prophet from the backwaters of rural Galilee crucified for crimes against the state came to be thought of as equal with the one God Almighty, Creator of all things. But how did he move from being a Jewish prophet to being God? In a book that took eight years to research and write, Ehrman sketches Jesus’s transformation from a human prophet to the Son of God exalted to divine status at his resurrection. Only when some of Jesus’s followers had visions of him after his death—alive again—did anyone come to think that he, the prophet from Galilee, had become God. And what they meant by that was not at all what people mean today. Written for secular historians of religion and believers alike, How Jesus Became God will engage anyone interested in the historical developments that led to the affirmation at the heart of Christianity: Jesus was, and is, God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

In Take Another Look, she presents information that may challenge what you believe in and how you apply that belief. How can you be sure about anything pertaining to eternal life, pertaining to salvation, about your own conversion? Traylor encourages you to re-examine your beliefs and how they work in your everyday walk of faith. A study of religious ideologies and doctrine, Take Another Look helps you to realize you are special and your life has a purpose. You are necessary and important. Book The Theology of the Book of Revelation

Download or read book The Theology of the Book of Revelation written by Richard Bauckham and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-03-04 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation is a work of profound theology. But its literary form makes it impenetrable to many modern readers and open to all kinds of misinterpretations. Richard Bauckham explains how the book's imagery conveyed meaning in its original context and how the book's theology is inseparable from its literary structure and composition. Revelation is seen to offer not an esoteric and encoded forecast of historical events but rather a theocentric vision of the coming of God's universal kingdom, contextualised in the late first-century world dominated by Roman power and ideology. It calls on Christians to confront the political idolatries of the time and to participate in God's purpose of gathering all the nations into his kingdom. Once Revelation is properly grounded in its original context it is seen to transcend that context and speak to the contemporary church. This study concludes by highlighting Revelation's continuing relevance for today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is probably the most read, but least understood book of the Bible. History is replete with examples of how not to interpret it, and books featuring end-of-world prophecy claims based on Revelation consistently top the bestseller lists. But how can the message of such an enigmatic book be applied to our lives today? In Discipleship on the Edge, Darrell W. Johnson drives home the challenging and practical message of Revelation in thirty carefully crafted sermons. Paying careful attention to the original context of Revelation and the circumstances surrounding its composition, Johnson shows that the book is not a "crystal ball" but rather a "discipleship manual." Thoroughly researched and yet accessible, this collection of sermons is a helpful resource for pastors and small group leaders who are looking for models to help them preach and teach the message of Revelation in a time when there is much confusion about the end times. Darrell W. Johnson serves as Scholar-in-Residence at The Way Church and Canadian Church Leaders Network in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Book The Book of Revelation a New Beginning

Download or read book The Book of Revelation a New Beginning written by Terry L Newbegin and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation: A New Beginning contains the hidden secrets of Saint Johns Revelation, and as you know, it is one of the most debated and most difficult books of all the scriptures to read and understand because of the extreme symbolism tied to it. Man has always assumed the word of Gods prophets and their stories were indisputable just because of their eminence in interpreted them as being true. Man has forgotten the history of himself, Earth, God, the origin of the universe, and how the scriptures have been documented, interpreted, and strictly passed down by our ancestors and religious leaders. As symbolic as Revelation is it has nothing to do with the end days or even about a solitary Anti-Christ as we understand it nor is it about Jesus coming to save you. In truth, Saint Johns Revelation is your own guide showing you that you no longer need to look at yourself as a sinner because you have bared your cross, like Jesus, and now the time has come for you to ascend to a higher state of Mind. The book of Revelation: A New Beginning is a book that will help open the gates of your soul memories so you can become aware of your own divineness, and that you are a God too. My fellow Gods, what is coming to an end is the old ways of perceiving and understanding God. It is not that God is a mystery. It is you that is the mystery, and when fear is resolved within, you are then ready to open up to the hidden secrets behind the Book of Revelation that religions have kept as a secret for thousands of years, either on purpose or because of ignorance.
