Book A Daughter of the Enemy of the People

Download or read book A Daughter of the Enemy of the People written by Valery Dunaevsky and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-10-28 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of my book A Daughter of the 'Enemy of the People' reflects a situation of the 1930's in the USSR when in the height of the Stalin purges millions of the innocent people were arrested and labeled 'The Enemies of the people.' My maternal grandfather happened to be one of the hapless victims of that witch hunt. In the book I am addressing the related events of the Stalin repressions, WWII, Holocaust, emigration from the USSR and immigration to the USA. The book is dedicated to my late mother, 19202010, and her life is shown in connection with mine and some of my other relatives. Particularly I am outlining there my maternal grandmother who was a free lance playwright and poetess. Also, the book gave me an opportunity to highlight the image of my maternal uncle Vitold Shmulian. He was a mathematics doctor who served as an artillery officer in the Soviet Army, and despite the hardship of war he was able to continue his mathematical studies. And literally from the trenches of war he sent his treatises back into the USSR academy of science. He was killed at the liberation of Warsaw. He is still well known in the mathematical circles. His name could be found in the Internet. (His name can also be found under the title The theorem of Krein-Shmulian). My mother was from Odessa and father was from Rostov-on -Don where they lived before the war. In October of 1941 they were able to escape the approaching German army. Rostov was taken by the Germans on Nov. 21 but in few days it was recaptured by the Soviet Army. During their stay in Rostov, the Nazis immediately initiated anti-Jewish actions, but they were small in scale. In July of 1942 Rostov fell to Germans the second time. At that time the mass atrocities were committed against Jewish population and against many other segments of civil population and prisoners of war. My book captures some of these events. One of the main goals of the book is to show interesting and good people (who happened to be my relatives) and who could serve as role models for younger generation.

Book Exploration and Monitoring of the Continental Shelf Underwater Environment

Download or read book Exploration and Monitoring of the Continental Shelf Underwater Environment written by Iftikhar B. Abbasov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-09-12 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dedicated to the unique developments of hydroacoustical equipment to monitor the sea coastal shelf environment, this groundbreaking unique study presents a survey of modern methods and technical monitoring facilities, including the diagnostics of underwater engineering when monitoring offshore. There is still so much about the oceans that scientists do not know, and exploring the continental shelves of the world is a huge part of finding out more about these underwater environments. Further to that, it is extremely important that, while scientists and engineers explore and monitor the continental shelf, no damage is done to these precious environments. That is the needle that this study intends to thread, giving scientists and engineers a better method and processes for exploring these underwater mysteries, while protecting the environment and wildlife thriving beneath. Written by a proven scientist in this area, this book is dedicated to the unique developments of hydroacoustical equipment to monitor the coastal shelf. The results of the original experimental sonar studies with application of the parametric antenna are presented. The book presents a survey of the modern methods and technical monitoring facilities of the coastal aqueous environment. The basic characteristics of the parametric antennas are given considering propagation of the acoustic waves in the environments with dispersion and acoustical absorption. The author and his colleagues consider the questions of formation of the parametric antenna field in layered-heterogeneous media and the peculiarities of sounding of the interfaces and bottom sediments. Ecological monitoring methods of the basic parameters of quality and condition of the aqueous environment are analyzed. The peculiarities of diagnostics of the underwater engineering constructions when monitoring the offshore strips are described. For both veteran engineers and students in the field alike, this breakthrough study is a must-have for any scientific library concerned with studying the oceans and especially the continental shelf.

Book Semi inverse Method In Nonlinear Problems Of Axisymmetric Shells Forming

Download or read book Semi inverse Method In Nonlinear Problems Of Axisymmetric Shells Forming written by Anatoly S Yudin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, solving problems based on designing and calculating complex structures with significant nonlinearity usually require:Semi-inverse Method in Nonlinear Problems of Axisymmetric Shells Forming provides an alternative method for solving problems with deep geometric and physical nonlinearity. Easily implemented on normal PCs, this method is fast and creative. The reader can use integrated packages of the MathCad variety that implement 'live mathematics'. Such packages give the reader the freedom to create programs for themselves. In the proposed method, a function for molding pressure is constructed, which is output to a stationary value by varying the shape parameters and edge reactions. The final shape of the shell is given using analytical approximations. Applications of the method are applied to real shell structures. Forming spherical and ellipsoidal shells (flapping membranes), correcting the shape of the bottom of a container for liquid cargo, modeling the operation of a flat jack, and converting a cylindrical shell into a barrel-shape are also considered.
