Book A Battle Won by Handshakes

Download or read book A Battle Won by Handshakes written by Lucas A. Dyer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-05 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a US Marine, Lucas A. Dyer engaged in combat with the Taliban in Afghanistan's heroin capital of Helmand. He fought in the Battle of Khanjar while participating in Operation Enduring Freedom from May 2009 to December 2009. He was one of the four thousand Marines who fought under Brig. Gen. Larry Nicholson as a member of the Second Marine Expeditionary Brigade, which also included 650 Afghan soldiers. As a small unit leader and platoon commander leading Marines in battle, he fought terrorists and their allies on their home turf, witnessing unspeakable violence in the process. At a certain point, however, he and his fellow Marines realized that an eye for an eye would not accomplish their objectives; that marked a turning point for them, and a basis of true success began to unfold. Relying on counterinsurgency operations, they began shaking hands one at a time'and that was how they ultimately drove the Taliban away. Day by day and week by week, they proved that a small fighting force could work together with Afghans to become brothers-in-arms. In this memoir, Dyer recalls the events of his time in Afghanistan, sharing true stories from the front lines of how his company was able to win their battles through handshakes.

Book Successful negotiation with the Driver Seat Concept

Download or read book Successful negotiation with the Driver Seat Concept written by Hermann Rock and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-05 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book, Hermann Rock provides time-structured core negotiation strategies that can be immediately applied in practice. The author's expertise comes primarily from negotiations in the context of M&A transactions and management investments. However, the concepts presented are equally applicable to negotiations of financing, car purchase, lease or service contracts and thus universally applicable. Three (scientifically based) basic strategies are presented, which the reader can adapt to his or her specific negotiation situation. The examples chosen for illustration are concrete cases negotiated by the author himself. With the certainty of having understood the three basic strategies, the reader enters the negotiation with a positive basic mood and thus creates the basis for his negotiation success. Hermann Rock has successfully presented his strategies for negotiation management many times in lectures and magazines (Focus) and now presents them for the first time in book form as a consistent further development of the Harvard concept.

Book Pratirodh The Resistance Spotlighting the Rajputana Maratha and Sikh campaign against Aurangzeb

Download or read book Pratirodh The Resistance Spotlighting the Rajputana Maratha and Sikh campaign against Aurangzeb written by Lt General Dalip Singh and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2023-04-19 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cast in the backdrop of the Mughal era during the reigns of Aurangzeb and his successors, Pratirodh is a saga of the relentless resistance by a few brave men against a seemingly invincible Empire to protect their honour and way of life. In response to the rather partisan policies of Mughal emperors, a number of personalities came forward in different parts of Hindustan, to lead people in resisting the tyranny. Though the geographical dispersion precluded any visible unified approach, they were indirectly benefitted by each other. When Aurangzeb got cowed down in Rajputana against the unified resistance of Marwar and Mewar, it provided much needed succour to the great Shivaji and Guru Govind Singh to regroup and consolidate forces in their respective areas. The credit for tying down the Mughals for the longest period in history goes to the Marathas; this also acted as a lifeline to the Sikhs, Rajputs, Bundelas and Jats. Rajputs and Sikhs repaid their debt to Marathas by keeping the Mughals, post Aurangzeb, completely embroiled in Punjab and Rajputana, and indirectly paving the way for an almost unchallenged rise of the Marathas. The prolonged resistance witnessed the supreme sacrifices of numerous unsung heroes of medieval history. Through unmatched grit and determination, they succeeded in bringing down the mighty Empire to its knees, eventually leading to its demise.

Book The Turkish War of Independence

Download or read book The Turkish War of Independence written by Edward J. Erickson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2021-05-24 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dramatic story of the turbulent birth of modern Turkey, which rose out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire to fight off Allied occupiers, Greek invaders, and internal ethnic groups to proclaim a new republic under Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). It is exceedingly rare to run across a major historical event that has no comprehensive English-language history, but such was the case until The Turkish War of Independence brought together all the main strands of the story, including the chaotic ending of World War I in Asia Minor and the numerous military fronts on which the Turks defied odds, fighting off several armies to create their own state from the defeated ashes of the Ottoman Empire. This important book culminates Erickson's three-part series on the early 20th-century military history of the Ottomans and Turkey. Making wide use of specialized, hard-to-find Western and Turkish memoirs and military sources, it presents a narrative of the fighting, which eventually brought the Turkish Nationalist armies to victory. Often termed the "Greco-Turkish War," an incomplete description that misses its geographic and multinational scope, this war pitted Greek, Armenian, French, British, Italian, and insurgent forces against the Nationalists; the narrative shows these conflicts to have been distinct and separate to Turkey's opponents, while the Turkish side saw them as an interconnected whole.
