Book Tables for the Calculation of the Inductance of Circular Coils of Rectangular Cross Section Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables for the Calculation of the Inductance of Circular Coils of Rectangular Cross Section An examination of the above types of multiple-layer coils shows that the current distribution in the cross section is essentially the same as that of a simple circular coil of rectangular cross section, and the inductance may therefore be calculated by the same for mulas as apply to the latter case, provided that an appropriate correction be made for the space occupied by the insulation. Rosa and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mutual Inductance of a Circle and a Coaxial Single Layer Coil the Lorenz Apparatus and the Ayrton-Jones Absolute Electrodynamometer This problem of finding the mutual inductance of a circle and a coaxial single layer winding was first solved by Lorenz.1 Assuming that the current was uniformly distributed over the surface of the cylinder forming a current sheet he integrated over the length of the cylinder the expression for the mutual inductance of a circular element and the given circle. This expression is an elliptic inte gral. Lorenz reduced the integrated form to a series and gave the following formula for the mutual inductance of the disk and solenoid of what is now called the Lorenz apparatus. He called it, however. Book Formulae and Tables for Calculation of Inductance of Coils of Polygonal Form Classic Reprint

Download or read book Formulae and Tables for Calculation of Inductance of Coils of Polygonal Form Classic Reprint written by Frederick W. Grover and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Formulae and Tables for Calculation of Inductance of Coils of Polygonal Form Coils wound on forms such that each turn incloses' a regular polygon are finding frequent use in radio circuits. Not only are they easy to construct, but support for the wires of the coil is necessary only at the vertices of the polygon. Thus, the amount of dielectric near the wires is small, making it easy to reduce energy losses in the dielectric to a very small amount. In this paper formulas are derived for the calculation of the inductance of such coils. The cases treated are triangular, square, hexagonal, and octagonal coils. It is found that a circular coil inclosing the same area as the polygonal coil, the length and the number of turns being the same in both cases, has nearly the same inductance as the polygonal coil. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mutual Inductance of Coaxial Solenoids Various formulae for the calculation of the mutual inductance of coaxial solenoids have been given from time to time. Although few of these formulae are exact, several of the approximate formulae per mit inductances to be calculated with very great accuracy by using a sufficient number of terms of the series by which they are expressed. We have collected a number of these formulae and propose in this paper to compare and test them, and to give their derivations in some cases where the proofs that have been given are incomplete or wanting altogether. Book Number Shape Symmetry

Download or read book Number Shape Symmetry written by Diane L. Herrmann and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-10-18 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a careful treatment of number theory and geometry, Number, Shape, & Symmetry: An Introduction to Number Theory, Geometry, and Group Theory helps readers understand serious mathematical ideas and proofs. Classroom-tested, the book draws on the authors’ successful work with undergraduate students at the University of Chicago, seventh to tenth grade mathematically talented students in the University of Chicago’s Young Scholars Program, and elementary public school teachers in the Seminars for Endorsement in Science and Mathematics Education (SESAME). The first half of the book focuses on number theory, beginning with the rules of arithmetic (axioms for the integers). The authors then present all the basic ideas and applications of divisibility, primes, and modular arithmetic. They also introduce the abstract notion of a group and include numerous examples. The final topics on number theory consist of rational numbers, real numbers, and ideas about infinity. Moving on to geometry, the text covers polygons and polyhedra, including the construction of regular polygons and regular polyhedra. It studies tessellation by looking at patterns in the plane, especially those made by regular polygons or sets of regular polygons. The text also determines the symmetry groups of these figures and patterns, demonstrating how groups arise in both geometry and number theory. The book is suitable for pre-service or in-service training for elementary school teachers, general education mathematics or math for liberal arts undergraduate-level courses, and enrichment activities for high school students or math clubs.

Book Street Fighting Mathematics

Download or read book Street Fighting Mathematics written by Sanjoy Mahajan and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2010-03-05 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An antidote to mathematical rigor mortis, teaching how to guess answers without needing a proof or an exact calculation. In problem solving, as in street fighting, rules are for fools: do whatever works—don't just stand there! Yet we often fear an unjustified leap even though it may land us on a correct result. Traditional mathematics teaching is largely about solving exactly stated problems exactly, yet life often hands us partly defined problems needing only moderately accurate solutions. This engaging book is an antidote to the rigor mortis brought on by too much mathematical rigor, teaching us how to guess answers without needing a proof or an exact calculation. In Street-Fighting Mathematics, Sanjoy Mahajan builds, sharpens, and demonstrates tools for educated guessing and down-and-dirty, opportunistic problem solving across diverse fields of knowledge—from mathematics to management. Mahajan describes six tools: dimensional analysis, easy cases, lumping, picture proofs, successive approximation, and reasoning by analogy. Illustrating each tool with numerous examples, he carefully separates the tool—the general principle—from the particular application so that the reader can most easily grasp the tool itself to use on problems of particular interest. Street-Fighting Mathematics grew out of a short course taught by the author at MIT for students ranging from first-year undergraduates to graduate students ready for careers in physics, mathematics, management, electrical engineering, computer science, and biology. They benefited from an approach that avoided rigor and taught them how to use mathematics to solve real problems.
