Book The Material Limits of Energy Transition Thanatia

Download or read book The Material Limits of Energy Transition Thanatia written by Alicia Valero and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth has become a huge mine, with a greater quantity and variety of fundamental mineral resources being extracted year after year. Technology, from electric cars to everyday electrical equipment, consume vast amounts of scarce raw materials. On a planet with limited resources, are these minerals being properly assessed? Will there be enough raw materials to meet the demand of a world population on track to reach 10 billion people? What will be the consequences of accelerated resource depredation? Will the planet one day become 'Thanatia', a resource-exhausted Earth? This book allows readers to understand the mineral heritage of the Earth, considering the demand for raw materials in society, comparing it with the availability of resources on Earth and the impact of mining. The basics of physical geonomics are exlpained, allowing readers to analyse the loss of mineral resources on the planet. The impact of renewable energies and technologies, including electric vehicles, are studied. The book concludes with possible solutions to mineral depletion, from increasing recycling rates, ecodesign measures or alternative sources of mineral resources. Providing numerous tables and illustrations, 'The Material Limits of Energy Transition: Thanatia' gives readers a thorough understanding of mineral depletion. Exploring geology, geochemistry, mining, metallurgy, the environment and thermodynamics, this is a truly holistic book.

Book Steam Tables in SI Units Wasserdampftafeln

Download or read book Steam Tables in SI Units Wasserdampftafeln written by U. Grigull and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tables and diagrams concerning the properties of ordinary water substance - as offered in this booklet - are mainly meant for use by students at universities and colleges so that they may be able to solve problems in the fields of power and chemical engineering, where water and steam are serving as working or process medium. On the other hand the tables and diagrams should support engineers in research work and industrial practice to obtain a quick and reliable general view of the proper ties of water substance. The thermodynamic properties of state have been calculated according to a formu lation given by Haar, Gallagher and Kell; this formulation was preliminarily adopted in 1983 by the "International Association for the Properties of Steam" (lAPS). All the other properties have been calculated according to the respective "Releases" of lAPS. Only units of the "International System of Units" (SI-Units) and their decimal multi ples and parts have been used. The detailed conversion tables facilitate comparisons with former material. We hope that the "Student's Tables" will prove a useful source for both, students and engineers.

Jose Delgado-Frias Will Moore April 1991 vii PROLOGUE Artificial intelligence and neural network algorithms/computing have increased in complexity as well as in the number of applications. This in tum has posed a tremendous need for a larger computational power than can be provided by conventional scalar processors which are oriented towards numeric and data manipulations. Due to the artificial intelligence requirements (symbolic manipulation, knowledge representation, non-deterministic computations and dynamic resource allocation) and neural network computing approach (non-programming and learning), a different set of constraints and demands are imposed on the computer architectures for these applications.

Book VLSI Specification Verification and Synthesis

Download or read book VLSI Specification Verification and Synthesis written by Graham Birtwistle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VLSI Specification, Verification and Synthesis Proceedings of a workshop held in Calgary from 12-16 January 1987. The collection of papers in this book represents some of the discussions and presentations at a workshop on hardware verification held in Calgary, January 12-16 1987. The thrust of the workshop was to give the floor to a few leading researchers involved in the use of formal approaches to VLSI design, and provide them ample time to develop not only their latest ideas but also the evolution of these ideas. In contrast to simulation, where the objective is to assist in detecting errors in system behavior in the case of some selected inputs, the intent of hardware verification is to formally prove that a chip design meets a specification of its intended behavior (for all acceptable inputs). There are several important applications where formal verification of designs may be argued to be cost-effective. Examples include hardware components used in "safety critical" applications such as flight control, industrial plants, and medical life-support systems (such as pacemakers). The problems are of such magnitude in certain defense applications that the UK Ministry of Defense feels it cannot rely on commercial chips and has embarked on a program of producing formally verified chips to its own specification. Hospital, civil aviation, and transport boards in the UK will also use these chips. A second application domain for verification is afforded by industry where specific chips may be used in high volume or be remotely placed.
