Book Mini Nutritional Assessment MNA

Download or read book Mini Nutritional Assessment MNA written by Bruno J. Vellas and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first of a new series which will present the proceedings of the newly established Nestlé Nutrition Workshop Series: Clinical & Performance Programme aimed at adult nutrition. Undernutrition is a common phenomenon in elderly people, and malnutrition reaches significant levels in those being in hospital, nursing homes or home care programs. Consequences of malnutrition often go unrecognised owing to the lack of specific validated instruments to assess nutritional status in frail elderly persons. The Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) provides a single, rapid assessment of nutritional status in the elderly of different degrees of independence, allowing the prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition to be determined and to evaluate the efficacy of nutritional intervention and strategies. Easy, quick and economical to perform, it enables staff to check the nutritional status of elderly people when they enter hospitals or institutions and to monitor changes occurring during their stay. Moreover, the MNA is predictive of the cost of care and length of stay in hospital. This publication will be of immense assistance to heads of geriatric teaching units, teachers in nutrition, clinicians general practitioners and dieticians, enabling them to better detect, recognise and start treatment of malnutrition in the elderly.

Download or read book Faith and the Fury written by Maria Thomas and published by Lse Studies in Spanish History. This book was released on 2019-04-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Spain, the five-year period following the proclamation of the Republic in April 1931 was marked by physical assaults upon the property and public ritual of the Spanish Catholic Church. These attacks were generally carried out by rural and urban anticlerical workers who were frustrated by the Republic's practical inability to tackle the Church's vast power. On July 17/18, 1936, a right-wing military rebellion divided Spain geographically, provoking the radical fragmentation of power in the territory which remained under Republican authority. The coup marked the beginning of a conflict which developed into a full-scale civil war. Anticlerical protagonists, with the reconfigured structure of political opportunities working in their favor, participated in an unprecedented wave of iconoclasm and violence against the clergy. During the first six months of the conflict, innumerable religious buildings were destroyed and almost 7,000 religious personnel were killed. To date, scholarly interpretations of these violent acts were linked to irrationality, criminality, and primitiveness. However, the reasons for these outbursts are more complex and deep-rooted: Spanish popular anticlericalism was undergoing a radical process of reconfiguration during the first three decades of the 20th century. During a period of rapid social, cultural, and political change, anticlerical acts took on new - explicitly political - meanings, becoming both a catalyst and a symptom of social change. After July 17/18, 1936, anticlerical violence became a constructive force for many of its protagonists: an instrument with which to build a new society. This book explores the motives, mentalities, and collective identities of the groups involved in anticlericalism, during the pre-war Spanish Second Republic and the Spanish Civil War. It will be is essential reading for all those interested in 20th-century Spanish history.

Book Basic Clinical Radiobiology

Download or read book Basic Clinical Radiobiology written by G Gordon Steel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-09-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a basic teaching book for radiation oncologists, radiation physicists, and radiobiologists, setting out concisely the biological basis of radiation therapy. Early chapters deal with essential areas of science, including cell proliferation in tumours and normal tissues, principles of radiation cell killing, theoretical and modelling approaches and molecular aspects of radiobiology. Subsequent chapters deal with the applications of radiobiology to clinical radiotherapy. The principles of fractionation are described in detail, leading to the rationale of current approaches to the improvement of radiotherapy schedules. Also discussed are efforts to beat hypoxia in tumours, brachytherapy, the principles and use of particle beams, the combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, hyperthermia, targeted radiotherapy, and current efforts to individualize treatment with radiation therapy. This second edition uses the same clear and concise style as the first, maintaining a high ratio of charts to text, for the benefit of those who have a visual memory. The text has been fully updated and expanded to include recent advances in molecular growth which will be of particular importance to trainees and professionals alike. The charts of this second edition have been substantially revised and each chapter concludes with a series of Key Points. There are frequent cross-references between chapters and a glossary of scientific terms is provided.

Book MANANA ES SAN PERON PB

Download or read book MANANA ES SAN PERON PB written by Mariano Ben Plotkin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2002 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerned primarily with the formation of political culture, Plotkin (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina) explores the mechanisms of political consent (both active and passive) used by the authoritarian regime of Juan Domingo Peron to maintain and extend its power. Peronist political imagery and the institutional framework that supported the creation of the "symbolic apparatus" are examined. Going beyond traditional explanations that have concentrated on Peron's support among the organized working class, Plotkin looks into his mobilization of marginal sectors of the population (non-unionized workers, women, and the poor). Translated from the 1993 Spanish- language work. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

We go behind the scenes to find out the true story of the bitter fighting within the sides, not just between them. The experiences of the men and women caught up in the fighting are highlighted.
