Download or read book Systolic Algorithms written by David J. Evans and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the architecture of present-day parallel supercomputers is largely based on the concept of a shared memory, with its attendant limitations of common access, advances in semicoductor technology have led to the development of highly parellel computer architectures with decentralized storage and limited connections in which each processor possesses high bandwidth local memory connected to a small number of such architectures, enabling cost-effective high-speed parallel processing for large volumes of data, with ultra-high throughput rates. Algorithms suitable for implementation on systolic arrays find applications in areas such as signal and image processing, pattern matching, linear algebra, recurrence algorithms and graph problems. This book provides an insight into the implementation of systolic arrays and gives a comprehensive overview of the techniques and theories contributing to the design of systolic algorithms.

Download or read book Introduction to Parallel Algorithms and Architectures written by F. Thomson Leighton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Parallel Algorithms and Architectures: Arrays Trees Hypercubes provides an introduction to the expanding field of parallel algorithms and architectures. This book focuses on parallel computation involving the most popular network architectures, namely, arrays, trees, hypercubes, and some closely related networks. Organized into three chapters, this book begins with an overview of the simplest architectures of arrays and trees. This text then presents the structures and relationships between the dominant network architectures, as well as the most efficient parallel algorithms for a wide variety of problems. Other chapters focus on fundamental results and techniques and on rigorous analysis of algorithmic performance. This book discusses as well a hybrid of network architecture based on arrays and trees called the mesh of trees. The final chapter deals with the most important properties of hypercubes. This book is a valuable resource for readers with a general technical background.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer scientists have long appreciated that the relationship between algorithms and architecture is crucial. Broadly speaking the more specialized the architecture is to a particular algorithm then the more efficient will be the computation. The penalty is that the architecture will become useless for computing anything other than that algorithm. This message holds for the algorithms used in real-time automatic control as much as any other field. These Proceedings will provide researchers in this field with a useful up-to-date reference source of recent developments.

Download or read book Concurrent Computations written by Stuart K. Tewksbury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1987 Princeton Workshop on Algorithm, Architecture and Technology Issues for Models of Concurrent Computation was organized as an interdisciplinary work shop emphasizing current research directions toward concurrent computing systems. With participants from several different fields of specialization, the workshop cov ered a wide variety of topics, though by no means a complete cross section of issues in this rapidly moving field. The papers included in this book were prepared for the workshop and, taken together, provide a view of the broad range of issues and alternative directions being explored. To organize the various papers, the book has been divided into five parts. Part I considers new technology directions. Part II emphasizes underlying theoretical issues. Communication issues, which are ad dressed in the majority of papers, are specifically highlighted in Part III. Part IV includes papers stressing the fault tolerance and reliability of systems. Finally, Part V includes systems-oriented papers, where the system ranges from VLSI circuits through powerful parallel computers. Much of the initial planning of the workshop was completed through an informal AT&T Bell Laboratories group consisting of Mehdi Hatamian, Vijay Kumar, Adri aan Ligtenberg, Sailesh Rao, P. Subrahmanyam and myself. We are grateful to Stuart Schwartz, both for the support of Princeton University and for his orga nizing local arrangements for the workshop, and to the members of the organizing committee, whose recommendations for participants and discussion topics were par ticularly helpful. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 14th Spring School of the LITP (Laboratoire d`Informatique Thorique et de Programmation, Universit Paris VI-VII, CNRS) held May 12-16, 1986 in Argels-Village on the French Catalan coast. This meeting was organized by C. Choffrut, M. Nivat, F. Robert, P. Sall and gathered a hundred participants. The proceedings of the last two Spring Schools have already been published in this series and deal with "Automata on Infinite Words" (LNCS 192) and "Combinators and Functional Programming Languages" (LNCS 242). The purpose of this yearly meeting is to present the state of the art in a specific topic which has gained considerable maturity. The field chosen this year was the theory of automata networks. Though the content of this book is essentially restricted to computer science aspects of the topic, illustrations were given at the meeting on how the model of cellular automata could be used to solve problems in statistical, fluid and solid state mechanics. Applications to biology with growth models also exist
