Book excerpt: L'objectif de la thèse est d'étudier un système à base de connaissances qui fasse le diagnostic automatique des tubes de générateurs de vapeur des centrales nucléaires REP. Chaque tube est contrôlé par une sonde axiale à courants de Foucault qui fait aller/retour dans le tube. Les signaux mesurés varient selon la srtucture du générateur de vapeur, l'évolution des défauts, les variations de vitesse et l'évolution des reponses indicielles de la sonde. Le système proposé doit permettre aux fonctionnalités de détection/segmentation, analyse et diagnostic de prendre en compte correctement ces causes de variabilité du signal mesuré. nous avons ainsi modélisé chacune des transitions qui engendrent un signal, et ces transitions sont reliées entre elles par diverses relations de succession, dépendance,... Ces transitions sont modélisées par objets et prennent ainsi en compte toute la variablité de la réalité physique. Les fonctionnalités décrites ci-dessus peuvent alors s'adapter aisèment aux évolutions du signal. Nous avons ensuite développé lánalyse, où les événements du tube contrôlé doivent être caractérisés géométriquement à partir du signal mesuré. C'est donc un problème inverse et la "méthode des résidus" qui a été proposée pour le résoudre approche au mieux un signal modèle du signal mesuré, en se fondant sur l'hypothèse de l'additivité des signaux. Cette méthode s'apparente à une technique d'optimasition symbolique. Elle utilise des hypothèses pour gérer la minimisation du résidu, et les directions de minimisation sont calculées par systèmes expert. L'ensemble du systéme a été développé avec un générateur de système expert interfacé avec des algorithmes de traitement du signal

Plusieurs méthodes de filtrage adaptatif ont été testées et une méthode d'interpolation adaptative a été développée. Cette méthode peut être appliquée avec succès à l'amélioration du rapport signal sur bruit dans le cas des signaux impulsionnels noyés dans un bruit stationnaire à bande étroite, modélisable par un modèle AR d'ordre fini. Le second niveau associe aux concepts de base des informations spécifiques à leurs utilisations (notions de vecteurs de connaissances). Le dernier niveau concerne les connaissances d'expertise (règle de stratégie, inférence, définition, ...). L'éditeur de base d'expertise comporte une Interface en Langage Naturel spécialisé dont l'objectif est de comprendre " le sens " d'une phrase sur le domaine décrit par le modèle conceptuel (niveaux 1 et 2) (réalisation à travers une Definite Clause Grammar). La résolution d'un problème est guidée par la réponse du Module d'Exploitation des Connaissances (MEC) à un certain nombre de tâches élaborées dynamiquement. Les travaux réalisés ont montré d'une part l'intérêt des résultats obtenus dans d'autres domaines tels la psychologie cognitive et d'autre part que la compréhension de phrases et le raisonnement nécessitent un même ensemble de connaissances élémentaires (mémoire sémantique).
