This proceedings includes twenty-seven papers based on oral presentations at the conference plus a synthesis paper that summarizes workshop themes, discussions, and related information. Topics include early detection and rapid response; control techniques, biology, and impacts; management approaches; distribution and mapping of invasive plants; and partnerships, education, and outreach.

Book Plant Community Classification for Alpine Vegetation on the Beaverhead National Forest Montana

Download or read book Plant Community Classification for Alpine Vegetation on the Beaverhead National Forest Montana written by Stephen V. Cooper and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vegetation of the alpine zone of eight mountain ranges in southwestern Montana was classified using IWINSPAN, DECORAN, and STRATA-algorithms embedded within the U.S. Forest Service Northern Region's ECADS (ecological classification and description system) program. Quantitative estimates of vegetation and soil attributes were sampled from 138 plots. Vegetation composition, structure, productivity, associated soil features, and landscape positions are described for the 23 recognized community types that include wetland, snowbed, cushion plant, turf, and grassland physiognomic types. Field identification of community types is facilitated through the inclusion of a diagnostic indicator species-based dichotomous key. Management related obsenrations are posited for this regional alpine zone and for particular vegetation types.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Landscape Ecology

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Landscape Ecology written by Robert A. Francis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 434 pages. Authors from varying disciplinary backgrounds tackle key concepts such as landscape structure and function, scale and connectivity; landscape processes such as disturbance, flows, and fragmentation; methods such as remote sensing and mapping, fieldwork, pattern analysis, modelling, and participation and engagement in landscape planning; and emerging frontiers such as ecosystem services, landscape approaches to biodiversity conservation, and climate change. Each chapter provides a blend of the latest scientific understanding of its focal topics along with considerations and examples of their application from around the world. An invaluable guide to the concepts, methods, and applications of landscape ecology, this book will be an important reference text for a wide range of students and academics in ecology, geography, biology, and interdisciplinary environmental studies.

Book The Sunflower Family Asteraceae of British Columbia

Download or read book The Sunflower Family Asteraceae of British Columbia written by George W. Douglas and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sunflower family is one of the largest families of plants and includes many well-known species such as the dandelion, wormwood, goldenrod, chrysanthemum, and camomile. Over 300 sunflower family species are found in British Columbia. After an introduction reviewing the general characteristics of the sunflower family, this volume provides detailed taxonomic descriptions of species found in British Columbia from four tribes of this family: Astereae (including asters and daisies), Anthemideae (including sagebrush and tansy), Eupatorieae (including bricklebrush), and Inuleae (including filago and everlasting). An important purpose of this guide is to enable non-botanists to identify different species, and it includes identification keys, illustrations of various parts of the plants, and maps of the plant's known geographic range in the province. An appendix includes a glossary, lists of species and synonyms, and a list of excluded taxa.
