Book Reformed Systematic Theology Volume 3

Download or read book Reformed Systematic Theology Volume 3 written by Joel Beeke and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 1061 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Here is catechesis at its best, instructing the student of theology, providing pastors with a sermon-enriching manual, and giving growing Christians a resource book that will both inform and nourish them, as well as provide endless theological enjoyment!" — Sinclair B. Ferguson, Chancellor's Professor of Systematic Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary; Teaching Fellow, Ligonier Ministries The aim of systematic theology is to engage not only the head but also the heart and hands. Only recently has the church compartmentalized these aspects of life—separating the academic discipline of theology from the spiritual disciplines of faith and obedience. This multivolume work brings together rigorous historical and theological scholarship with spiritual disciplines and practical insights—characterized by a simple, accessible, comprehensive, Reformed, and experiential approach. In this volume, Joel R. Beeke and Paul M. Smalley unpack the work and role of the Holy Spirit (Pneumatology) and salvation (soteriology). The authors examine the Holy Spirit's role in the history of salvation, the order of salvation, and the believers' experience of salvation. As readers consider the interrelationship between the Spirit and salvation, they are invited to explore the direct activity of the Lord in their lives for their salvation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Systematic Theology, Vol. 1 of 3: A Compendium and Commonplace-Book; Designed for the Use of Theological Students; The Doctrine of God Systematic Theology, first published in 1886. Of the original work there have been printed seven editions, each edition embody ing successive corrections and supposed improvements. During the twenty years which have intervened since its first publication I have accumulated much new material, which I now offer to the reader. My philosophical and critical point of view meantime has also somewhat changed. While I still hold to the old doctrines, I interpret them differently and expound them more clearly, because I seem to myself to have reached a fundamental truth which throws new light upon them all. This truth I have tried to set forth in my book entitled Christ in Creation, and to that book I refer the reader for further information. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the third and last of his Systematic Theology, Paul Tillich sets forth his ideas of the meaning of human life, the doctrine of the Spirit and the church, the trinitarian symbols, the relation of history to the Kingdom of God, and the eschatological symbols. He handles this subject matter with powerful conceptual ability and intellectual grace. The problem of life is ambiguity. Every process of life has its contrast within itself, thus driving man to the quest for unambiguous life or life under the impact of the Spritual Presence. The Spritual Presence conquers the negativities of religion, culture, and morality, and the symbols anticipating Eternal Life present the answer to the problem of life.

Book Systematic Theology Vol 2 of 3

Download or read book Systematic Theology Vol 2 of 3 written by Augustus Hopkins Strong and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Systematic Theology, Vol. 2 of 3: A Compendium and Commonplace Book Designed for the Use of Theological Students; The Doctrine of Man By creation we mean that free act of the triune God by which in the beginning for his own glory he made, without the use of preexisting mate rials, the whole visible and invisible universe. Creation is designed origination, by a transcendent and personal God, of that which itself is not God; The universe is related to God as our own volitions are related to ourselves. They are not ourselves, and we are greater than they. Creation is not simply the idea of God, or even the plan of God, but it is the idea externalized, the plan executed in other words, it implies an exercise, not only Of intellect, but also of will, and this will is not an instinctive and unconscious will, but a will that is personal and free. Such exercise of will seems to involve, not self-development, but self-limitation, on the part Of God; the transformation of energy into force, and so a beginning of time, with its finite successions. But, what ever the relation of creation to time, creation makes the universe wholly dependent upon God, as its originator. Book Systematic Theology Vol 1

Download or read book Systematic Theology Vol 1 written by Charles Hodge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Systematic Theology, Vol. 1: A Series of Questions Upon the Lectures Delivered to the Students in Princeton Theological Seminary In every science there are two factors, facts and ideas; or, facts and the mind. Science is more than knowledge. Knowledge is the persuasion of what is true on adequate evidence. But the facts of astronomy, chemistry, or history do not constitute the science of those departments of knowledge. Nor does the mere orderly arrangement of facts amount to science. Historical facts arranged in chronological order, are mere annals. The Philosophy of history supposes those facts to be understood in their causal relations. In every department the man of science is assumed to understand the laws by which the facts of experience are determined; so that he not only knows the past, but can predict the future. The astronomer can foretell the relative position of the heavenly bodies for centuries to come. The chemist can tell with certainty what will be the effect of certain chemical combinations. If, therefore, theology be a science, it must include something more than a mere knowledge of facts. It must embrace an exhibition of the internal relation of those facts, one to another, and each to all. It must be able to show that if one be admitted, others cannot be denied. The Bible is no more a system of theology, than nature is a system of chemistry or of mechanics. We find in nature the facts which the chemist or the mechanical philosopher has to examine, and from them to ascertain the laws by which they are determined. So the Bible contains the truths which the theologian has to collect, authenticate, arrange, and exhibit in their internal relation to each other. This constitutes the difference between biblical and systematic theology. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
