Book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar IV Summary and Recommendations

Download or read book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar IV Summary and Recommendations written by Peter M. Crane and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four experiments were conducted to identify digital feature data base requirements for simulating synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The results indicate that lines of communication and large areal features are the principal cues used in SAR image interpretation. The results also indicate that depiction of small, individual features is required to create a simulation with acceptable realism. These small individual features may be depicted generically without adversely affecting SAR operator task performance. This approach has been proposed by the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) as the basis for a new Digital Feature Analysis Data (DFAD) product (Level 3-C) to support high-resolution radar simulation. We recommend that the Air Force accept the proposed Level 3-C DFAD specification for SAR simulation. (RH).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging: A System Simulation Approach demonstrates the use of image simulation for SAR. It covers the various applications of SAR (including feature extraction, target classification, and change detection), provides a complete understanding of SAR principles, and illustrates the complete chain of a SAR operation. The book places special emphasis on a ground-based SAR, but also explains space and air-borne systems. It contains chapters on signal speckle, radar-signal models, sensor-trajectory models, SAR-image focusing, platform-motion compensation, and microwave-scattering from random media. While discussing SAR image focusing and motion compensation, it presents processing algorithms and applications that feature extraction, target classification, and change detection. It also provides samples of simulation on various scenarios, and includes simulation flowcharts and results that are detailed throughout the book. Introducing SAR imaging from a systems point of view, the author: Considers the recent development of MIMO SAR technology Includes selected GPU implementation Provides a numerical analysis of system parameters (including platforms, sensor, and image focusing, and their influence) Explores wave-target interactions, signal transmission and reception, image formation, motion compensation Covers all platform motion compensation and error analysis, and their impact on final image radiometric and geometric quality Describes a ground-based SFMCW system Principles of Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging: A System Simulation Approach is dedicated to the use, study, and development of SAR systems. The book focuses on image formation or focusing, treats platform motion and image focusing, and is suitable for students, radar engineers, and micr

Book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation

Download or read book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation written by N. Szabo and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1980's, a new generation of airborne radar systems will become operational. These radars will have a number of new capabilities, but their synthetic apertures will have the greatest impact on simulation of the system since they provide a tenfold increase in resolution. Increased radar landmass simulator resolution is not the only problem implied by this increase. In particular, the sparsity of the DMA data bases presents a challenge in the generation of realistic images. Other new requirements include the simulation of anomalies caused by the Doppler mapping. For the last two years, Link has conducted an R & D program to explore the requirements of these new generation radars. This paper reports on the results. (Author).

Book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar II Simulating SAR Synthetic Aperture Radar Using the Advanced Visual Technology System

Download or read book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar II Simulating SAR Synthetic Aperture Radar Using the Advanced Visual Technology System written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Visual Technology System (AVTS) computer image generator was modified to produce highly accurate simulations of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) reflectively and elevation effects that can be precisely correlated with corresponding visual and infrared imagery. The resulting SAR snapshot is a plan view of the selected patch area with the field-of-view corresponding to a selected scale of 0.65, 1.3, or 2.6 nm. The image generator is interrupted for only one frame time, during which the entire processing power of the AVTS, up to 4,000 polygons, is brought to bear on the SAR snapshot. Once the SAR patch is computed, the AVTS continues with visual and infrared processing. A post-processor then adds feature and terrain shadows, horizontal and vertical incidence effects, resolution fall-off in azimuth and range, and speckle. (rrh).

Book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation by Electro Optical to SAR Transformation Using Generative Adversarial Network

Download or read book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation by Electro Optical to SAR Transformation Using Generative Adversarial Network written by Jason Slover and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The CycleGAN generative adversarial network is applied to simulated electo-optical (EO) images in order to transition them into a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)-like domain. If possible this would allow the user to simulate radar images without computing the phase history of the scene. Though visual inspection leaves the output images appearing SAR-like, examination by t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) shows that CycleGAN was insufficient at generalizing an EO-to-SAR conversion. Further, using the transitioned images as training data for a neural network shows that SAR features used for classification are not present in the simulated images."--Abstract.

Book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar III Evaluation of Prototype Digital Feature Analysis Data

Download or read book Simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar III Evaluation of Prototype Digital Feature Analysis Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This experiment evaluated the suitability of the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) prototype Level 3c Digital Feature Analysis Data (DFAD) for the simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The suitability of Prototype Level 3c DFAD was evaluated by comparing simulations generated from samples of Level 3c and from samples of DFAD previously demonstrated to be adequate for SAR simulation; these products, however, were unsuitable for production in the quantities required to meet Air Force needs. B-1B Offensive Systems Officers performed a navigation update task using simulated and actual SAR images. Crosshair placement accuracy, operator confidence in the placement, and ratings of acceptability for use in a Weapon System Trainer were recorded using both simulated and actual SAR images. The results indicated that SAR simulation can be supported as well by Level 3c DFAD as by the other products. Keywords: Digital feature analysis data; Digital radar landmass simulator; Radar mapping; Simulators; Synthetic aperture radar.
