Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cluster chemistry is one of the recent, exciting areas of Inorganic Chemistry. The occurence of molecular clusters, like fullerene C60, constitutes a fundamental feature midway between the chemistry of isolated chemical compounds and that of the elements. Main features of the Cluster Chemistry of both main group and transition metal elements are treated in this book. The author highlights aspects releated to the synthesis, the structure, the special bonding and the reactivity of these species. The book is written as a textbook for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students. References in tables andillustrations permit the reader to reach relevant original information. Professor Gonzalez-Moraga fills a demand for a publication appropriate for dissemination and specially for teaching this exciting subject. Book Metal Clusters in Chemistry

Download or read book Metal Clusters in Chemistry written by Pierre Braunstein and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-01-11 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal cluster chemistry is at the cutting edge between molecular and solid-state chemistry and has therefore had a great impact on the researchers working on organic, coordination, and solid-state chemistry, catalysis, physics, and materials science. The development of new sophisticated synthetic techniques has led to enormous progress in the synthesis of this diverse class of compounds. The number of clusters is growing rapidly, since the possible variations in the metal and ligand sphere are numerous. Modern bonding theories, such as the isolobal principle, have allowed a better understanding of the structures and properties of metal clusters, and thus paved the way for the usage of these versatile materials. Catalysis and nanomaterials are just two of the very promising application-oriented fields. Seventy six contributions, written by world experts in this research field, provide extensive coverage of different aspects of cluster chemistry, ranging from synthesis, structure determination, and dynamics to applications. Up-to-date information, including an impressive collection of structural data and illustrations, extensive coverage of the most important publications of the last decade, and many more features make this three-volume set a complete single-source guide for all researchers working in the area of cluster chemistry.

Book Ligated Transition Metal Clusters in Solid state Chemistry

Download or read book Ligated Transition Metal Clusters in Solid state Chemistry written by Jean-François Halet and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume dedicated to the memory of Marcel Sergent who was a leader in this field for many years, addresses past achievements and recent developments in this vibrant area of research. Large classes of ligated transition metal clusters are produced either exclusively or most reliably by means of high-temperature solid-state reactions. Among them, the Chevrel-Sergent phases and related materials have generated enormous interest since their discovery in 1971. Today, these materials and their numerous derivatives still constitute a vivid area of research finding some applications not only in superconductivity, but also in catalysis, optics or thermoelectricity to mention a few.

Book Late Transition Metal Carboryne Complexes

Download or read book Late Transition Metal Carboryne Complexes written by Zaozao Qiu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zaozao Qiu shows in this thesis that transition metals can mediate or catalyze the cycloaddition or coupling reactions of carboryne with alkynes or alkenes to afford benzocarboranes, alkenylcarboranes or dihydrobenzocarboranes. These results represent powerful strategies to assemble useful complex molecules from very simple precursors in a single operation. Carboranes have many applications in medicine. However, their unique structures make derivatization difficult and the limited efficient synthetic methods to obtain functional carborane materials have restricted applications of carboranes within a narrow scope. This work breaks a new ground in metal-carboryne chemistry and will have a significant impact on synthetic, cluster and materials chemistry.

Book New Synthetic and Structural Chemistry Supported by Re6 u3 Se 8 2 Clusters

Download or read book New Synthetic and Structural Chemistry Supported by Re6 u3 Se 8 2 Clusters written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition metal clusters are a unique class of chemical substances. Not only do they have well-defined molecular structures, they also exhibit interesting and potentially useful properties that are inherent to metal-metal bonded species. They may be viewed as atom-like building blocks with adjustable properties. Detailed in this dissertation are the efforts to develop synthetic methodologies necessary to bring a cluster system out of the limited sphere of fundamental cluster chemistry and into general synthetic applicability. Specifically, the design and synthesis, structural characterization, and synthetic applications of the cluster complexes of the [Re6(& mu3-Se)8]2+core will be discussed. Chapter 1 provides necessary background information of the [Re6(& mu3-Se)8]2+core-containing cluster system, the rationales of cluster-supported synthetic and structural chemistry, and the impetus for these endeavors. Chapter 2 details the synthetic applications of stereospecific complexes of the [Re6(& mu3-Se)8]2+clusters for the assembly of nanoscopic multicluster arrays using molecular and supramolecular approaches. The synthesis and structural characterization of a triangle-shaped tricluster array and a tetracluster assembly composed of two hydrogen-bonded diclusters are described. Chapters 3 and 4 describe the synthesis of the [[Re6(& mu3-Se)8]2+core-containing cluster complexes with the water-soluble 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) ligand and the chemistry of these cluster-complex ligands for the coordination of a variety of secondary metal ions. In Chapter 5, the supramolecular chemistry of the cluster-PTA complexes with Ag(I) is detailed. The coordination of Ag(I) to a cluster complex with two PTA ligands disposed trans- to each other produces a 2-dimensional, porous solid with nano-sized hydrophobic pores that are potentially useful for storage of hydrocarbons and for occlusion of certain substrates for activation and possible catalysis. Chapter 6 summarizes the efforts to synthesize cluster-polymer hybrid materials by using an initiating cluster complex for the controlled radical polymerization. The synthesis, spectroscopic and structural characterizations of a novel cluster complex with an initiating ligand are described. Preliminary results of its application for the controlled polymerization of methyl methacrylate are detailed. Chapter 7 draws a set of conclusions based on the results presented in Chapters 2-6 and elaborates on some future directions aimed at moving one step forward the cluster-supported synthetic and materials chemistry.
