This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MICHAEL T. POPE AND ACHIM MULLER Department of Chemistry, Georgetown University, Washington, DC 20057-2222, U.S.A.; Department of Chemistry, University of Bielefeld, D-4BOO Bielefeld 1, F.R.G. Polyoxometalates, from their discovery and early development in the final decades of the 19th century to their current significance in disciplines as diverse as chemistry, mathematics, and medicine, continue to display surprisingly novel structures, unexpected reactivities and applications, and to attract increasing attention worldwide. Most of the contributors to the present volume participated in the workshop held at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Bielefeld, July 15-17, 1992. The choice of topics illustrates some of the variety of directions and fields in which polyoxometalates can play an important role. Although many of the leading polyoxometalate research groups are represented here, we regret that time constraints, financial limitations, and in some cases difficulties of communication did not allow us to include significant and imp- tant work from other groups outside Europe and North America. In the following we briefly review the current status of the field of po- oxometalates.

Book Molecular Nanomagnets and Related Phenomena

Download or read book Molecular Nanomagnets and Related Phenomena written by Song Gao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Structure and Bonding publishes critical reviews on topics of research concerned with chemical structure and bonding. The scope of the series spans the entire Periodic Table and addresses structure and bonding issues associated with all of the elements. It also focuses attention on new and developing areas of modern structural and theoretical chemistry such as nanostructures, molecular electronics, designed molecular solids, surfaces, metal clusters and supramolecular structures. Physical and spectroscopic techniques used to determine, examine and model structures fall within the purview of Structure and Bonding to the extent that the focus is on the scientific results obtained and not on specialist information concerning the techniques themselves. Issues associated with the development of bonding models and generalizations that illuminate the reactivity pathways and rates of chemical processes are also relevant. The individual volumes in the series are thematic. The goal of each volume is to give the reader, whether at a university or in industry, a comprehensive overview of an area where new insights are emerging that are of interest to a larger scientific audience. Thus each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years should be presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. A description of the physical basis of the experimental techniques that have been used to provide the primary data may also be appropriate, if it has not been covered in detail elsewhere. The coverage need not be exhaustive in data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the new principles being developed that will allow the reader, who is not a specialist in the area covered, to understand the data presented. Discussion of possible future research directions in the area is welcomed. Review articles for the individual volumes are invited by the volume editors. Readership: research scientists at universities or in industry, graduate students Special offer for all customers who have a standing order to the print version of Structure and Bonding, we offer free access to the electronic volumes of the Series published in the current year via SpringerLink.

Book Supramolecular Catalysts

Download or read book Supramolecular Catalysts written by Cheng-Yong Su and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of catalysts by supramolecular forces has recently become a powerful tool and the role of noncovalent interactions can assist in designing new tools for the construction of effective and selective catalytic systems. It is unquestionably, vastly important to understand how different noncovalent interactions can be controlled or manipulated under appropriate reaction conditions. Supramolecular catalysts have had a tremendous impact on the syntheses of both chemical commodities and fine chemicals over the last 50 years, leading to the discovery of new reactions that were previously deemed impossible. This means that supramolecular chemistry plays a predominant role in accelerating or understanding chemical reactions. This book which addresses the above points is written by some of the leading contributors in this field and is intended for graduate students, researchers and academics working in supramolecular chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry as well as researchers with an interest in the area of catalysis. The authors give examples illustrating the growth of the field, especially with special emphasis on new results published over the last decade. They also provide an explanation of fundamentals and topical research.

Book Metal Nanoparticles for Catalysis

Download or read book Metal Nanoparticles for Catalysis written by Franklin Tao and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalysis is a central topic in chemical transformation and energy conversion. Thanks to the spectacular achievements of colloidal chemistry and the synthesis of nanomaterials over the last two decades, there have also been significant advances in nanoparticle catalysis. Catalysis on different metal nanostructures with well-defined structures and composition has been extensively studied. Metal nanocrystals synthesized with colloidal chemistry exhibit different catalytic performances in contrast to metal nanoparticles prepared with impregnation or deposition precipitation. Additionally, theoretical approaches in predicting catalysis performance and understanding catalytic mechanism on these metal nanocatalysts have made significant progress. Metal Nanoparticles for Catalysis is a comprehensive text on catalysis on Nanoparticles, looking at both their synthesis and applications. Chapter topics include nanoreactor catalysis; Pd nanoparticles in C-C coupling reactions; metal salt-based gold nanocatalysts; theoretical insights into metal nanocatalysts; and nanoparticle mediated clock reaction. This book bridges the gap between nanomaterials synthesis and characterization, and catalysis. As such, this text will be a valuable resource for postgraduate students and researchers in these exciting fields.

Book Catalysts for Fine Chemical Synthesis Catalysis by Polyoxometalates

Download or read book Catalysts for Fine Chemical Synthesis Catalysis by Polyoxometalates written by Ivan Kozhevnikov and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2002-10-11 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whole journals are devoted to catalysis and books describe the various catalysts. However it is very difficult to find detailed protocols offering information on where to source catalysts, how to store them, how to activate them for the synthesis, how to perform the actual synthesis and how to recycle the catalysts out of the synthesis process. This new series of books (accompanied by CD-ROM) addresses all these issues. Each volume publishes approximately 40 detailed procedures and makes use of different catalysts. They are classified according to the type of reaction they are catalysing and in addition a section included incorporates reviews, comparisons between the different types of catalysts and highlights from research in the previous year. It includes approximately 40 detailed procedures and describes the use of different catalysts and is classified according to the type of reaction they perform. The chemist has a vast choice of high-tech catalysts to use when working in fine chemical synthesis but the catalysts are hard to use and require both skill and experience to handle properly. This book contains tested and validated procedures and provides a unique resource for chemists who work in organic chemistry.

Download or read book Polyoxometalates written by Aaron P. Roberts and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyoxometalates (abbreviated as POMs), also known as early-transition metal-oxygen anion clusters, is a large and rapidly growing series of inorganic compounds. POMs can be generally divided into two subclasses: isopolyoxometalates(IPOMs) and heteropolyoxometalates (HPOMs). The former refers to a class of isopoly compounds which contain the skeletal transition metal cations and oxide ions of the same metal element. In contrast, the latter one, known as heteropoly compounds (HPCs) as well, contains both heteroatom and coordination atoms. This book reviews properties of POMs, their structure and also their synthesis.
