Book Handbook of Liquid Crystals Volume 2B

Download or read book Handbook of Liquid Crystals Volume 2B written by Dietrich Demus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Liquid Crystals is a unique compendium of knowledge on all aspects of liquid crystals. In over 2000 pages the Handbook provides detailed information on the basic principles of both low- and high-molecular weight materials, as well as the synthesis, characterization, modification, and applications (such as in computer displays or as structural materials) of all types of liquid crystals. The five editors of the Handbook are internationally renowned experts from both industry and academia and have drawn together over 70 leading figures in the field as authors. The four volumes of the Handbook are designed both to be used together or as stand-alone reference sources. Some users will require the whole set, others will be best served with one or two of the volumes. Volume 1 deals with the basic physical and chemical principles of liquid crystals, including structure-property relationships, nomenclature, phase behavior, characterization methods, and general synthesis and application strategies. As such this volume provides an excellent introduction to the field and a powerful learning and teaching tool for graduate students and above. Volumes 2A and 2B concentrate on low-molecular weight materials, for example those typically used in display technology. A high quality survey of the literature is provided along with full details of molecular design strategies, phase characterization and control, and applications development. These volumes are therefore by far the most detailed reference sources on these industrially very important materials, ideally suited for professionals in the field. Volume 3 concentrates on high-molecular weight, or polymeric, liquid crystals, some of which are found in structural applications and others occur as natural products of living systems. A high-quality literature survey is complemented by full detail of the synthesis, processing, analysis, and applications of all important materials classes. This volume is the most comprehensive reference source on these materials, and is therefore ideally suited for professionals in the field.

  • Release : 1999-03-22
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 392 pages

Download or read book S Centered Radicals written by Zeev B. Alfassi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1999-03-22 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S-centered Radicals Edited by Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel Sulfur containing radicals, formed from sulfur emissions from natural sources (e.g. volcanoes), power plants and from car exhausts, play an important role in our atmosphere. In the living cell, sulfur constitutes an essential part of the defence against oxidative damage and in the course of this mechanism is transformed into a variety of sulfur free radical species. S-centered Radicals deals with the organic radicals containing sulfur atoms, RS*, RSO*, RSO_2* and R_3S and the inorganic radicals, *SH and SO_x*. This is the book to bring together all the recent developments of S-centered radical chemistry. This area is extremely important to organic synthetic chemists and environmentalists. S-centered radicals are of increasing interest in biochemistry and medicine due to S-containing amino-acids and S-S bonds in proteins. Sulfur radicals are also involved in polymer chemistry and photonic materials as well as in radiation protection and nutrition. This title is the essential volume for anyone working in sulfur chemistry.

Book Modern Methods in Carbohydrate Synthesis

Download or read book Modern Methods in Carbohydrate Synthesis written by Shaheer H. Khan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Methods in Carbohydrate Synthesis presents in one volume a sequence of chapters leading from classical methods through to today's newest state-of -the-art technology for oligosaccharide synthesis. It places particular emphasis on the most recent breakthroughs in the field, including emerging technologies for both oligosaccharide and glycoconjugate synthesis. Chapters describing the synthesis of increasingly important glycosidic linkage analogs, as well as the oligosaccharides containing derivatives and analogs of natural sugars are included. While chemical-synthetic methods constitute the major part of the book, completing the volume is a section on the rapidly expanding and important field of enzymatic synthesis, also covering combined chemical and enzymatic synthesis. Chapters are written by leading experts in the field. Wherever possible, methods of synthesis are provided in sufficient detail to allow the reader to implement the techniques described. More than 1700 references are provided in the 21 chapters comprising the book. This volume should provide a wealth of information to a large number of synthetic organic chemists, medicinal chemists, protein chemists, biochemists, glycobiologists and cell biologists, including students in these fields.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans-Peter Saluz
  • Publisher : Birkhäuser
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3034888171
  • Pages : 592 pages

Download or read book Microsystem Technology written by Hans-Peter Saluz and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomolecular studies are the trial of Man to understand how Nature manages information at the molecular level. The understanding of molecular informa tion handling in nature is essential for the molecular optimization in chem istry, molecular biology, molecular pharmacology and therefore - as an ex ample - for the development of specifically acting drugs. The famous recent method of technical information management is digital electronics. Over the past few years, evidence has arisen that computerized and molecular information managements have many similar and overlapping aspects. For example, both technology and nature use digitized information and both use small structures for the efficient handling of information. Furthermore, they optimize their processes in order to gain a maximum of information with a minimum of invested energy. During the last two decades, novel experimental techniques in biomolec ular sciences have paved the way for artificial biomolecular optimization. In the same time interval, the progress of micro system technology has been extended from the field of digital electronics and sensing to micro liquid hand ling, and the field of chip-supported substance handling began. It appears that the "marriage" of physical micro technology and molecular processing will be consummated soon. The contact of both fields has been realized in for ex ample DNA chips. Such connections will also become relevant in additional fields in the near future. Biomolecular investigations are the first to profit from these fast growing scientific and technical connections between micro systems and molecular sciences.
