Book Synthesis and Characterization of Pendant functionalized Polymers from Baylis Hillman Adducts

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Pendant functionalized Polymers from Baylis Hillman Adducts written by Chao Peng and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decades, chemists have explored various approaches to prepare functionalized polymers for improved properties. The combination of organic chemistry and polymer chemistry is a promising approach to build novel polymer structures, therefore synthetic organic chemistry has been employed to design novel monomers for polymer synthesis. Our group takes advantage of the Baylis-Hillman reaction, since it is a simple and convenient method to synthesize densely functionalized molecules. This feature makes Baylis-Hillman adducts good substrates for synthesizing functionalized polymers. In this work, we synthesized two types of polymers by a bottom-up design of monomers using Baylis-Hillman (BH) reaction. We designed two types of monomers: a hydroxyl-functionalized acrylate and an unsaturated diol, which can undergo chain-growth polymerization and step-growth polymerization, respectively. Using the BH acrylate, we synthesized a hydroxyl-functionalized polyacrylate via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Using a BH diol, we were able to synthesize an unsaturated poly(ester-urethane). This unsaturated poly(ester-urethane) can undergo post-functionalization via thiol-ene click reaction. Thermal properties and potential applications of these polymers were investigated.

Book Rhodium Catalyzed Hydroformylation

Download or read book Rhodium Catalyzed Hydroformylation written by Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade there have been numerous advances in the area of rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation, such as highly selective catalysts of industrial importance, new insights into mechanisms of the reaction, very selective asymmetric catalysts, in situ characterization and application to organic synthesis. The views on hydroformylation which still prevail in the current textbooks have become obsolete in several respects. Therefore, it was felt timely to collect these advances in a book. The book contains a series of chapters discussing several rhodium systems arranged according to ligand type, including asymmetric ligands, a chapter on applications in organic chemistry, a chapter on modern processes and separations, and a chapter on catalyst preparation and laboratory techniques. This book concentrates on highlights, rather than a concise review mentioning all articles in just one line. The book aims at an audience of advanced students, experts in the field, and scientists from related fields. The didactic approach also makes it useful as a guide for an advanced course.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guanidines, amidines and phosphazenes have been attracting attention in organic synthesis due to their potential functionality resulting from their extremely strong basicity. They are also promising catalysts because of their potential for easy molecular modification, possible recyclability, and reduced or zero toxicity. Importantly, these molecules can be derived as natural products – valuable as scientists move towards “sustainable chemistry”, where reagents and catalysts are derived from biomaterial sources. Superbases for Organic Synthesis is an essential guide to these important molecules for preparative organic synthesis. Topics covered include the following aspects: an introduction to organosuperbases physicochemical properties of organic superbases amidines and guanidines in organic synthesis phosphazene: preparation, reaction and catalytic role polymer-supported organosuperbases application of organosuperbases to total synthesis related organocatalysts: proton sponges and urea derivatives amidines and guanidines in natural products and medicines Superbases for Organic Synthesis is a comprehensive, authoritative and up-to-date guide to these important reagents for organic chemists, drug discovery researchers and those interested in the chemistry of natural products.
