Book Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes for Removal of Heavy Metals from Water

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes for Removal of Heavy Metals from Water written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The commercial flake graphite was prepared into functionalized graphite oxide (GO) by adopted chemical treatment. After the exfoliation and intercalation of graphite into functionalized graphene oxide that formed stable colloidal dispersion in polar aprotic solvent, the reduction process was undertaken by continuous stirring with hydrazine hydrate in a microwave at 35 oC for two hours. The reduced material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), attenuated total reflectance (ATR) FT-IR, Ultra-violet visible (UV-vis), atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman microscopy and magnified optical microscopy that confirm the oxidation of graphite and reduction of graphene oxide into graphene sheets.

Book Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene Oxide modified Bi2WO6 and Its Use as Photocatalyst

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene Oxide modified Bi2WO6 and Its Use as Photocatalyst written by Xiaoyue Hu and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control of environmental pollution, particularly in wastewater treatment, is one of the major concerns of the 21st century. Among the currently available pollution control technologies, photocatalysis is one of the most promising and efficient approaches to the reduction of pollutants. Graphene, a carbon nanomaterial with specific physical and chemical properties, has been reported as a promising potential new catalyst material in this field. A Bi2WO6 photocatalyst modified with graphene oxide was synthesized in a two-step hydrothermal process. Compared with pure Bi2WO6, the modified photocatalyst with 1.2 wt% graphene oxide improved photoactivity during the degradation of rhodamine-B (RhB) dye pollutant, by facilitating the dissociation of photogenerated excitons, which in turn results in more O2- radicals. XRD characterization showed that the modification of Bi2WO6 with graphene oxide does not affect its structure or morphology. The adsorption properties of graphene also contribute to the improvement of photoactivity. Other parameters such as catalyst dosage, temperature and solution pH are studied, with the aim to improve the efficiency of RhB removal.

Book Synthesis and Characterization of Reduced Graphene Oxide Polyaniline Au Nanoparticles Hybrid Material for Energy Applications

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Reduced Graphene Oxide Polyaniline Au Nanoparticles Hybrid Material for Energy Applications written by Carmina Menchaca-Campos and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, synthesis and characterization of reduced graphene oxide/polyaniline/Au nanoparticles (GO/PANI/NpAu) as a hybrid capacitor are presented. Graphite oxide (GO) was synthesized by a modified Hummer's method. Polyaniline was synthesized by chemical polymerization, and Au nanoparticles (NpAu) were added afterward. Fabrication of the electrodes consisted on the hybrid materials being deposited on carbon cloth electrodes. The chemical and structural properties of the electrode were characterized by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (X-R), and Raman spectroscopy; the results confirm the graphene reduction, the covalent functionalization, and formation of nanocomposites and also show the polyaniline grafted graphene. The performance and evaluation of the electrodes based on grapheme oxide (GO), polyaniline (PANI), GO-PANI, and GO/PANI/NpAu nanocomposites over carbon cloth, stainless steel, and copper have been obtained in 1 M H2SO4 solution, using electrochemical techniques namely: cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). They showed that GO/PANI/NpAu gave higher specific capacitance (SC) and energy values than PANI, and GO/PANI, in the order of 160 F/g. The present study introduces new hybrid material for energy applications, from the evaluation of their electrical contributions.

Book Graphene Oxide Based on Biomass Waste

Download or read book Graphene Oxide Based on Biomass Waste written by Ramli Ramli and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graphene oxide is a two-dimensional material formed from oxidized graphite, with oxygen (O) functional groups decorating the sp2 plane of carbon (C). Graphene oxide can be obtained by exfoliating the graphite oxide (oxidized three-dimensional carbon-based material) into the layered sheets by sonication or mechanical stirring. Graphene oxide contains various reactive oxygen functional groups, which make it to be a good candidate as a foundation in many applications, such as polymer composites, materials for energy conversion, environmental applications, sensors, FET transistors, and photonic applications, due to its excellent electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties. The widely used technique to synthesize graphene oxide is the modified Hummer,Äôs method because of its simple process, low cost, and high yield. In this chapter, we report the progress of graphene oxide synthesis using graphite from activated carbon gathered from biomass waste as the source instead of commercial graphite. The chapter covers the synthesis of biomass waste-based graphene oxide and future perspective applications of graphene oxide. Scientific reports about biomass waste-based graphene oxide synthesis and recent applications of graphene oxide will be discussed. The main motivation for writing this chapter is to bring to the horizon the utilization of biomass waste as an alternative carbon source for the green, low-cost, and sustainable production of graphene oxide.
