This book was released on 1979 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthesis of homo poly(dimethylsiloxane) PDMS, homo poly(diphenylsiloxane PDPS, and di- and tri- block copolymers of PDMS and PDPS have been carried out by anionic living polymerization, using the following reagents: hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane, HMTS and hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane, HPTS (monomers), n-BuLi and dilithium diphenyldisilanolate, DLS (initiators), DMSO and THF (promoters) and Toluene (solvent). Lithium based catalysts are used in order to minimize siloxane rearrangement (equilibration) reactions.

Book The Synthesis and Characterization of Block Copolymers

Download or read book The Synthesis and Characterization of Block Copolymers written by Jin-Long Hong and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyether-Polyimide Block Copolymers; Three series of Polyether-Polyimide (PEPI) block copolymers were synthesized. Soft segments were poly(propylene glycol) (PPO) Mn = 2,000 and 4,000. Hard segments were pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and di-(2-hydroxyethyl)-dimethylhydantoin (H). The hard segments were formed from 4,4'-diphenylmethane disocyanate (MDI) with PMDA or 95% PMDA and 5% H. The first series designated as PEPI-2K was synthesized with PPO-2,000, MDI and PMDA. The second series, PEPI-2KH, used PPO-2,000, MDI, 95% PMDA+ 5% H. The third series, PEPI-4K, used PPO-4,000, MDI and PMDA. PEPI copolymers in each series varied by weight percent of hard segment.

Book Synthesis and 1H NMR Characterization of Amphiphilic Acrylate Block Copolymers to Investigate the Effect of Chain Rigidity on Micelle Formation in Solution

Download or read book Synthesis and 1H NMR Characterization of Amphiphilic Acrylate Block Copolymers to Investigate the Effect of Chain Rigidity on Micelle Formation in Solution written by David Arnold and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amphiphilic block copolymers are composed of distinct segments exhibiting different chemical properties. In solution, block copolymers may self-assemble to form micelles when triggered by a change in the environment. The effect of chain rigidity can be investigated in better detail if the molecular weights are controlled, as the polymer's ability to aggregate is also influenced by polymer size. Acrylate and methacrylate monomers were chosen for their similar chemical properties but their difference in reported glass transition temperature (Tg). Amphiphilic block copolymers were synthesized by a controlled free radical (RAFT) polymerization. 1H-NMR methods were developed to measure molecular weight of poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(t-butyl acrylate) homopolymers to corroborate size-exclusion chromatography measurements. Using qualitative measurements of peak broadening that occurs by the shortening of T2 relaxation when polymers phase-separate from solution, it was found that polymers with a more rigid hydrophobic region tend to form micelles the most readily.

Book The Synthesis and Characterization of Amphiphilic Poly ethylene Oxide block poly octadecyl Acrylate Block Copolymers

Download or read book The Synthesis and Characterization of Amphiphilic Poly ethylene Oxide block poly octadecyl Acrylate Block Copolymers written by Yi Wang (Polymer engineer) and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of well-defined poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(octadecyl acrylate) (PEO-b-PODA) diblock copolymers were successfully synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization with low polydispersities (M[subscript w]/M[subscript n] = 1.09-1.13). The crystallization behavior of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(octadecyl acrylate) (PEO-b-PODA) diblock copolymers has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). The melt morphology of PEO455-PODA19 experienced a transition from lamella to cylinder at 130°C. For the double crystalline block copolymer PEO455-PODA19, the micro-phase separation at 55°C created lamellar micro-domains, which confined the PEO blocks as it crystallized. The leading crystallization of PEO blocks then created a space that confined PODA crystallites as they are developed. The spherulites were formed first when PEO started to crystallize, but crystallites with polyhedral shape finally formed. As for the micelle behavior, the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that amphiphilic block copolymers PEO-PODA with different volume fractions of hydrophobic PODA blocks ranging from 21% to 54%, were able to self-assemble in water forming spherical micelles.
