This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Synopsis of Current Electrical Literature The principal aim has been to give the headings and names of authors of the most important articles pertaining to electricity published in the English, German and French languages during the past year. Many of those articles have been reprinted in several publications, not infrequently translated, either in full or in abstract it was, therefore, deemed advisable to mention the principal journals which printed or reprinted such papers in order to give those desiring to read the subject matter in detail the opportunity to procure such papers as are easiest obtainable. The brief remarks following the titles are not intended to be so full as to give the reader all the information he may want, concerning the specific article, but they are given Simply to call attention to the line of thought followed by the author, or to give a clue to the method of treatment pursued in order that one may judge whether it is of the character sought for. Cross references have been almost entirely avoided in order not to make the book too voluminous, but great care has been exercised in selecting the headings of the various branches. The book, as a whole, is practically a rearranged and revised reprint of the monthly synopsis which have appeared in elec tric power during the year 1895. Electricity in its manifold applica tions is so large a factor in the comfort and con venience Of our daily life, SO essential to the industrial organization which embraces every dweller in a civilized land, so important in the development and extension of civilization itself, that a knowledge of its principles and the means through which they are directed to the service of mankind should be a part Of the mental equip ment of everyone who pretends to education in its truest sense. Let anyone stop to consider how he individually would be affected if all elec trical service were suddenly to cease, and he cannot fail to appreciate the claims of electricity to attentive study. Mackay and others of the management of the Commercial Cable Company, Governor Gage represented the State, and Mayor Schmitz was present on behalf of the municipality. Mr. G. G. Ward said: The length of this cable will be three and one-half times greater than any Atlantic cable. When this shall be completed our system will reach from England and France to China, three - fourths of the dis tance around the globe, and I venture to predict that we shall be able to beat 'puck's' prophecy of girdling the earth in forty minutes by sending a message from San Francisco to San Francisco in one fourth of that time. Meantime the Silvertown, which started with about miles of cable, laying it across an ocean nearly three miles deep, has proceeded with her task, completing the first great section to Honolulu. Book The Elements of Direct Current Electrical Engineering Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Direct Current Electrical Engineering Classic Reprint written by George Edward Condliffe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Direct Current Electrical Engineering The main object of the authors of this work has been to bridge the gap existing between the elementary text-books on magnetism and simple current electricity, Ohm's Law, etc., and so many of the more advanced books which deal with the design point of view. Not only the authors, but also many of their friends, have often found difficulty in recommending to students a book which would, without containing many details of a nature more or less superfluous to the purpose, present in a concise form to second-year students at Universities and Technical Schools the theoretical principles underlying Direct Current Electrical Engineering. No attempt has been made to avoid the use of the Calculus where it simplifies proofs, since it is an essential to all students of engineering but, in this book, only a very elementary knowledge of that subject is demanded. Book A First Book of Applied Electricity Classic Reprint

Download or read book A First Book of Applied Electricity Classic Reprint written by Samuel Romilly Roget and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A First Book of Applied Electricity IN this presentation of a few of the elementary principles that underlie the useful applications of electricity and magnetism, reference has been made to the manifestations of electricity which are most often met with in daily life, without first requiring the reader to survey aspects of the subject which, although of ultimate theoretical importance, are not the basis of the applications with which he is already acquainted. For this reason, it has been sought to make the reader familiar with electric currents and their various effects, pointing out how some of these are applied, before he is introduced to electro statics; for it is considered more important for him to think in volts and amperes than in electrostatic units. In a Work of this size, it would have been impossible to enter into details of real electrical engineering practice without unduly restricting the outline of the principles involved. Only the most elementary mathematics are employed, and the object has been more to help to give an under standing of principles than to provide the equipment for the exact calculations which will be of more profit at a later stage when those principles have been mastered. Book The Story of Electricity Vol 1

Download or read book The Story of Electricity Vol 1 written by T. Commerford Martin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 924 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of Electricity, Vol. 1: A Popular and Practical Historical Account of the Establishment and Wonderful Development of the Electrical Industry Hence the Editors of the story OF electricity take especial pleasure, pride and satisfaction in recording and ar ranging in an historical review the salient facts regarding an industry with which they have been actively connected since youth. The Editors were both, for many years, electrical journalists whose daily work brought them into close contact with all but the very earliest pioneers in the telegraphic art. Acquaintance and friendship with the leading men of the industry during the past thirty five years has enabled them, in the majority of instances, to secure accurate data regarding important events from the actual creators of the art or participants in those events. Suggestions that such a work should be prepared have been repeatedly made, and they feel that they are meeting a long recognized necessity for such an addition to the permanent literature of invention and industry. This history is written in the language of the layman, while at the same time its technical truth will satisfy the scientist. It is thus possible to present an historical narrative at once accurate and authoritative, as well as one thoroughly permeated with that most desirable quality, human interest. The personal sketches have been prepared with the utmost care, and no efforts have been spared to secure authentic portraits of the prominent members of thisgreat industry, both of the past and the present day. Contained within the covers of this volume, the casual reader or the student in search of information will find not only the facts he is seeking, but at the same time he may, by consulting the index, turn to portraits and reliable biographies of the men concerned in the events described. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 1026 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Electric Review, 1913, Vol. 16 This, in brief, is the ground which will be covered; and at this time it is not necessary to deal with the separate items of the agenda in any greater detail. At this time, however, it emphatically is' necessary 'to advertise thoroughly the fact that such business is toward, and to impress 'on all interested parties the fact that these questions of ratings, standards, temperature limits and measure ments, and so on, are really vital questions which must receive adequate discussion; that there is now an opportunity for adequate discussion Which cannot, in the nature of things, recur for several years; and that any hasty formulation of rules, as has already been abundantly proved by past Institute experience. Is capable of more harm than good; is frequently productive of doubt and confusion, and at best can only be an imade quate method of meeting the present needs for revision. The invitation to contribute is a wide-open one, and the circular which has been sent to all the members gives a pretty good idea of the subjects upon which opinion is required. If, rnembers with something to say have no time to prepare papers, or no facilities for obtaining the data upon which good constructive criticism of existing rules and methods can be based, let them content themselves for the present with marking up the date of the convention; let them make arrangements now for being in. New York on the 26th of February next; let them formulate their opinions now so. That, when they receive their copies of the papers, they may, as far as possible, be ready with some helpful discussion, which contributions can then, be distributed before the convention date.
